Guest guest
I was allowed a shower in a couple days after surgery while still in the hospital. No swimming until the wound is well healed. My staples came out after a couple weeks. sweetpea37814 <sweetpea37814@...> wrote: Can anyone tell me how long it is after tkr before you can go swimming how about showering getting the incision wet how long till the staples come out? thanks sherrie aka neverous nellieGod bless you! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Sherrie, I wasn't able to take a shower while in the hospital, and my OS still wouldn't let me take one until a couple of days after I got home. This didn't make me too happy because I was in there for 5 days, then I had to wait another couple of days...so I had to take the dreaded sponge bath. That first shower was awesome though!! I have one of those hand held showers with the massage heads on it. I just sat in the shower chair and let it massage my knee. I didn't get my staples out until two weeks after my surgery. My OS said no way could I take a bath, swim, hot tub or whatever for a couple of months till the incision is completely healed. Just to make sure no bacteria can enter the area. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I have been trying to catch up and want everyone to know I appreciate all the info lately, especially as I have just 4 weeks until my RTKR. I have been really sick with pneumonia and am battling to get back to myself. I may have picked this up in the plane on my recent trip to FL but then it could have started with allergies as the pine and oak pollen are very heavy here right now. The lists of things to have close-by and the shower info is very helpful. Thank you, Marciareynawhitehawk <ReynaWhitehawk@...> wrote: Hi Sherrie,I wasn't able to take a shower while in the hospital, and my OS still wouldn't let me take one until a couple of days after I got home. Guest guest
It depends on the doctor I guess. I did have to wash my hair before I could take a shower. I couldn't stand it. A nurse helped me stand at the sink and do it. reynawhitehawk <ReynaWhitehawk@...> wrote: Hi Sherrie,I wasn't able to take a shower while in the hospital, and my OS still wouldn't let me take one until a couple of days after I got home. Guest guest
The grass pollen is bad here in eastern Tennessee right now so I can really feel for you. It's really hurting my asthma right now. I hope you feel better soon and this doesn't affect your surgery date. Take care, Marcia Morse <morsekittyl@...> wrote: Hello Everyone, I have been trying to catch up and want everyone to know I appreciate all the info lately, especially as I have just 4 weeks until my RTKR. Guest guest
Hi, my Dr. wouldn't let me take a shower until my sutures were out. I had to was my hair though so I sat with one my good leg in the tub and my bad leg out and leaned in the tub and my daughter washed it for me. Guest guest
Cool...not too far from us. My husband and I were both born in the L.A. suburbs. We live in a tiny town called Acton, about 35 miles northeast of Valencia, where Magic Mountain is. Nothing but lots of horse ranches here. But I commute everyday down to North Hollywood, whcih takes me at least 1 1/2 hours...and it's only 45 miles. I hate this traffic. That is the main thing I haven't missed not working after my surgery!!!! How I dread going back to it next month. Debi I'm in CA too....north east Los Angeles County. Guest guest
FYI They sell water proof bandages big enough to cover any wound. Guest guest
I guess it all depends on what your doctor's orders are. They wouldn't let me shower in the hospital. Nor when I got home for a few days. Especially won't let you take a bath till your wound is totally healed. That first shower I took after surgery was like an hour long...I sat on that shower seat using the hand held shower massager and let the warm water run on my knee. Wonderful!! Guest guest
my method also has stalled surgery for me.Its alittle complicated. I swim breast stroke for one hour, about 25 laps if this still interests you let me know and i will give you the details for swimming with stenosis its not conventional, but for 18 months its a big help --------- walkerSpinal Stenosis Treatment Date: Saturday, November 22, 2008, 4:07 PM The neurologist had me buy a walker with a seat. I use it to wash dishes and do other kitchen tasks. Also I use it anytime I know I'm going to be somewhere that doesn't have seats for me to use. For instance, I made sure I carried it with me to vote recently. I wasn't sure how long the line would be. I can't stand for very long. Joan I can't remember if it is in a Carol s catalog or a Dr Lenards catalog. but I have seen a three legged stool with rollers and a seat that you can sit on the seat, but still be in a standing up position and walk around as needed, but still take weight off your hips and legs. Something like that or even just a bar stool tall enough to be able to sit and stir stuff on the stove should be of help.Debbie and Ian McKinley (BMD since 93)no litters Kansas http://home. hit.net/~ dimck/http://www.flickr. com/photos/ dimck23/ (200 carting photo)
Guest guest
I have incorporated your side of the pool excercises and i think there is an added advantage.I dont know how to do the pelvic tilt however. My swimming is with a mask and snorkel as arching my back to breath excacerbates my back pain but this method doesnt. Also iuse the frog kick but at the end of the kick I forcefully end the kick by very strongly holding the legs together so ifeel the gluten muscles,I do 30 lapes which is about 800 kicks four times a week.It is the best thing I have found so far --------- walkerSpinal Stenosis Treatment Date: Saturday, November 22, 2008, 4:07 PM The neurologist had me buy a walker with a seat. I use it to wash dishes and do other kitchen tasks. Also I use it anytime I know I'm going to be somewhere that doesn't have seats for me to use. For instance, I made sure I carried it with me to vote recently. I wasn't sure how long the line would be. I can't stand for very long. Guest guest
YOU can only do this in lap swimming times and lanes.but remember two things you cant arch your back to breath, and at the end of each kick you hold the closed position for 5 or 10 seconds sguessing the glutes firmly --------- walkerSpinal Stenosis Treatment Date: Saturday, November 22, 2008, 4:07 PM The neurologist had me buy a walker with a seat.
