Guest guest
I have a patient who is sleep deprived, only experiencing four to five hours sleep per night, then awakens and cannot get back to sleep. We are working on stress alleviation, improving diet, exercise, regular adjustments, but what about a temporary herbal sleep aid? Anything I can recommend that is non-habit forming and safe. He is not taking any other prescriptive or OTC medication and is generally in good health. J. Guest guest
, Agents I use are tryptophan ( from 50-1000 mg depending upon the person), melatinin (2mg max) or ... benadryl. I know it isn't natural, but it also works. If taken too late, grogginess will ensue. These should be taken at the same time each night, an hour before sleep is desired. Mixing them up seems to be helpful. A few nights on each works. Guest guest
, Does the person always wake at the same time? Do they drink alcohol in the evening before bed? Do they have a cup of decaf coffee with dinner? Depending on the time they wake, it could be adrenal problems, which would necessitate testing for oxidative or other stressors. If positive, balancing the adrenals is the direction to go. Without testing, for general sleep problems, I use Orchex or Min-Tran by Standard Process with good success. Guest guest
Dear Bee, I had another night of three hours of sleep last night! This insomnia is undoubtedly interfering with my progress on the diet. The anxiety that's always in the background during the day just worsens when I try to sleep. Yes, I do deep breathing. What about taking melatonin? Are there any sleep aids (e.g. herbs) Bee-approved? I've read the page on your site about improving sleep many times and have tried all those things to no avail. I keep thinking about how you've said it can take up to 18 months to switch over to running on fat. I can't imagine living like this another 10 months! Thank you for your help,
