Guest guest
Dear Virginia: Just being there, is all anyone could ask. But, if you have any extra hair, I could use some, especially in the " male pattern baldness " spots. But, seriously, most people who experience hair loss do so, on average, about the 6th week to 4 months. In many cases the loss decreases before therapy is done, and, while I am sure there must be one person in the World who would change this statement, everyone who has lost hair that I have seen or spoken to, quickly grows it back. Also, their hair is usually thicker, and sometimes comes in differently then before the loss, ie: wavy when it was straight. For those poor spouses of people who have to live with this, good luck. My wife was almost hysterical for 2 months, and had started to get wig catalogs, and scarfs. The only way I knew she had lost any hair was that she kept pointing it out after she washed her hair. But, thankfully that is past us, and it is growing back to her liking. The only word of caution, watch the sun so you do not get burned, which goes for any prescribed medications. Guest guest
I knew about the hair loss. I lost my hair before when I had undiagnosed thyroid disease and it grew back beautifully in this weird multicolored way. I'm hoping it grows back this time too. Guest guest
Romy, As I understand it (and have experienced it) You START losing hair around month 3 and STOP losing it around month 6. I am sure people are different on those times as well as how much they lost. Guest guest
I lost hair from about 3 to 9 months. At 13 months my hair is about back to normal with lots of new hair coming in also, so it may end up being thicker than before. Nothing you can injest is going to shortcircuit this process--just grin and bear it. Most of us don't get it enough to be noticeable, although most had to alter their usual hairsyles in some way--usually a shorter cut. A few people had to get wigs. Guest guest
i have been really lucky.... my hair loss fell out in GOBS at 4.5 months. now about 6 weeks later it is back to normal fallout just a few each shampoo. i say drink protein and take your vits. i really feel that is important for a quick recovery from the fallout and a shorter duration. be well everyone! Guest guest
Thank you, Margaret! Mine had done what you're describing for years now. Maybe it won't affect me much, only time will tell. Mine comes out in my hands when I rub mousse into it. It also comes out in my hairbrush. Not in clumps for me, anyway. Strand by strand. I never had thick hair - but now my poor ponytail is about 1/2 inch in diameter. I am afraid to get it cut off right now because it is so thin. At least I can pull it back. I am looking forward to the growing back phase. Margaret in St. Louis MGB 12/13/00 250 / 173 --- WadeAnd@... wrote: > I'm not quite 2 months post-op, so I haven't > experienced any hair loss. Guest guest
Hey , I have really thick hair too. I cut my hair short before surgery so that when it did fall out there were not these big long hairs to deal with....only short little ones.....I think by seeing less hair laying around on my pillow, in my shower and on my brush, it helped me to worry less. I could tell my hair was not as full, however, even with all my hair loss......not one person....not even my hairdresser, noticed my hair was thinning. And I remember when I met from Raliegh, she said the same thing.....her hair fell out but only she noticed because it was so thick to begin with. Now some of our good friends on this list lost so much hair they had to wear hair pieces or wigs.....and maybe some of them had thick hair to begin with, but for me, even though I saw fallen hair every where, it was not very obvious to others. So I guess what I am saying is to keep in mind that if you have thick long hair, you will see lots more hair falling out than you would if you have thick short hair. And I was glad I cut my hair because no matter how prepared I was for hair loss.....it freaked me out when it started happening and at 9 months post....it is still falling out. And still I am the only one who can tell. Hope you have the same luck! Beth in Florida > I'm not quite 2 months post-op, so I haven't experienced any hair loss. My beatican did have me cut it a little shorter with long layers, it is about 2 inches off my shoulders, she said this will help it to appear thicker than my long one length Re: Hair Loss Mine comes out in my hands when I rub mousse into it. Guest guest
Margaret, I had to cut my hair. It was getting entirely too stringy, it actually LOOKS BETTER! I have had lots of compliments, it is cut in a bob now, and it really does look better. Call me crazy, I am saving my shower hair, to see how much I am losing only in the shower. I have enough for a good wig! It is quite sad! You might want to consider a " new do " . MGB 12/
Guest guest
No, it doesn't come out in clumps, but hair by hair--it just gets thinner. Mine was mostly around my face and on the top front. The back never thinned, and now it is as thick as ever, or perhaps thicker. Pat Hair Loss I'm not quite 2 months post-op, so I haven't experienced any hair loss. I had long thick hair to the middle of my back .I t was my securrity blanket, it covered my tennis huge arms........! My hair was so thick and long I could leave the house naked no bra..... cause the hair covered everything! The thinning on top lead me to trim it shorter and shorter ..........for every size I went down I cut it. Now I have it gradually layered on top and about an 2 inches below my shoulders. I also had it cut to look like it is fuller than it is,texture- and I love it!!! Plus I put some highlights in it and I m pleased with the outcome. It's growing back and I dont think I ;ll have it one length again, I love it layered! Experiment and enjoy the new you! Guest guest
Hi Terri, I can certainly relate to the hair falling out, as mine did for a month or two, and now has levelled off after the 7th month. I had my MGB under Dr Rutledge on Oct 20, 2000, and feel like a new woman. I take the vitamins 3x a day, and some extra calcium too. As far as the Citricil goes, it makes me naseauted, and I have been fine without it. It is so great to feel good, and not have to take diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol medication. My clothes are hanging off me, and I plan to start shopping for some new ones. You and all the other friends who have gone through this surgery are an inspiration. Guest guest
DrR posted about taking zinc sulfate for hair loss. He said 1 200mg tablet 3 times a day. It helps to slow the hair loss. I too am having hair loss. When it first started, it was coming out in handfulls. But it isn't that noticable to others. I have hair everywhere in my house. I vaccuum and vaccuum. But it has slowed down now. So it does stop. It usually lasts about 4 months. I am getting my zinc sulfate today. But I also take 3 vitamins a day as well as the citrucell 2 times a day. But I am very pleased with my surgery. 89 pounds gone for good in 5 months. Has anyone else had hair loss and how much? When does it stop. I pull out so much just brushing or washing it. I only take a mulitivitamin twice a day-that's it. I have never taken Citrucel because I do not need to.Is there a paricular vitamin that would benefit the hair situation? Once again, congrats and I am glad you are doing well.
