Guest guest
My hair started thinning over a year ago. Years back, I went thru periodic shedding which later grew back. This time, the hair loss seemed permanent. I looked at the official GH3 website. Lots of info but cost was high. I found another less expensive brand. I tried that for a month. I noticed no changes. So I bought a 3 month supply from the official supplier. My hair stopped getting thinner. Not growing out thicker yet, but stopping the thinning is a good first step, imo. http://www.hwize.com/gerovital-gh3/gerovital-gh3.html?hw Opinions about this supplement from other list members is welcome, especially if you have actually used it for several months. The best source for high quality minerals that I am aware of is properly made (very easy - just add a splash of raw apple cider vinegar and simmer for 12-24 hours) bone broth. When combined with the addition of diatamaceous earth (for its naturally high silica content), you should be able to resolve any problem related to mineral deficiencies. You can use the leftover carcass of the evenings chicken dinner, or buy (or possibly even get for free if you get to know your local butcher) bones from grass fed/finished cows online for a few dollars per pound. You could also add a high quality mineral supplement like Vital Earths liquid fulvic and humic acid minerals, but with plenty of bone broth, it probably isn't necessary... Guest guest
Bone broth is great, the marrow is pure yin essence. Also, gelatin is awesome, marrow has a ton of collagen. Guest guest
Thank you, all of you, for your insight and advice with hair loss. I've made a list of your suggestions, and will surely report back if anything is working for me. I am thinking perhaps I should do a detox program first; at one time my blood was so septic they wanted to hospitalize me, but I refused. I cannot remember what they gave me other than a nebulizer with medicine to inhale, which brought me back pretty quickly. Not saying this is the case now, but I think it would be a good idea to do a cleanse, anyway. I can't seem to shake this n asty cold that's going around, also, and am feeling quite tired and 'out of it' of late. I'm also going to up my intake of MSM, which seemed to help me before. Meantime, I'll look up the links you all posted, and hopefully something will at least stop the hair loss and possibly even help new growth. Someone mentioned magnets; which I had looked into years ago for other problems, and will research that, too. Again, thanks so much for all the help!! You people are an amazing lot; I am thankful I found this list!! Guest guest
Hi Judy, I know this is probably going to confuse you more, but the first thing I did when I started losing my hair was to go on a detox and the Traditional Chinese dr. told me not to. Apparently this is a time when you need all your nutrients and to build yourself up, i.e. eat a full but healthy diet. I have since learned that if you do have thyroid issues, and have had them for long enough, you will usually also have adrenal issues and detoxing is very hard on the adrenals. I am now getting ready to do a detox, three and a half years down the track, but I feel like my adrenals are well supported now with hydrocortisone, cetlic sea salt and vitamin C. I've been using chlorella for about six months to start the detox process slowly and am going to follow the liver and gallbladder protocol for detox. Guest guest
, in a lot of people the cause of low thyroid and high adrenal output seems to be bowel dysbiosis. The commercial treatment, cortocosteroids, aggravates leaky gut and causes bowel perforation, the main reason for bowel resection. It's not a cure. In bowel dysbiosis a detox won't do much either because the toxin load is being created by what you eat, 24/7. Usually this means an anti-candida diet in addition to inulin is necessary in addition to detoxification steps and elimination of the steroids. all good, Duncan > > > Thank you, all of you, for your insight and advice with hair loss. Guest guest
Thanks for this Duncan. I had very low cortisol - a feature of adrenal fatigue. I was worried about taking the cortisol at first, but read a fair bit about it. My understanding is that if you are taking bioidentical cortisol only to bring your levels up to normal, you will not experience any problems as you are only bringing your body back into balance. It is only low cortisol, or high cortisol, that leads to side effects. Is that your understanding too? I will look u bowel dysbiosis. I did have occasional mild signs of candida, but they have disappeared as I have begun to feel better. I think it might be the iodine that I am taking as that also gets rid of parasites. (I was recently reading about a woman who was talking about giving her son iodine to counter radiation, and he was shocked but what he expelled!) I really am feeling pretty good now and my digestion seems good now, but with everything I've been doing - vitamins, celtic sea salt, iodine, T3 and HC, no gluten - it's hard to know exactly what's been responsible. Guest guest
Nice comments Judy! This is what the forum should be all about! Be supportive of one another, offer our opinions, share experiences and give or get advice. Energy is a precious commodity, so we should use it wisely! Instead, some members are wasting good energy, by becoming antagonistic and argumentative, just to make their point, or to have the last word. That is all Ego driven, and it serves nobody, but themselves (or perhaps not!) So please dig a little deeper in yourselves and let the true inner voice speak to you. After all we are all down here- in this life- to learn lessons and to contribute in some capacity. What lessons are you learning ? What's your contribution? Blessings, Peace and Wisdom to all! Guest guest
I agree; glad you looked at that . Cortisol and adrenaline are often driven high by bowel dysbiosis toxins before adrenal fatigue sets in and that's what drives immune response low. Bowel dysbiosis is primarily fueled by carbohydrate foods, and a tendancy to see signs of candida is one of the symptoms of dysbiosis. A lot of people don't get much for symptoms; my doctor speculates as high as 80% of the general adult population are affected by dysbiosis with some candida invovement. He ofered that opinion without any badgering, just discussion on prevalence of diet-caused disease. Years ago I mounted the best resource page on dysbiosis and prebiotic science on the Internet; the prewritten PubMed queries catch the latest research: http://tinyurl.com/inulin-references The full version of Tungland's Comprehensive Review is a pretty good primer in gut ecology and its maintenance. It's the only online source of this document except for one pirated copy that I know of. See also the website of researcher/anthropoligist Jeff Leach, the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed works on gut health and the prehistoric use of inulin foods. http://paleobioticslab.com/ all good, Duncan > > Thanks for this Duncan. > > I had very low cortisol - a feature of adrenal fatigue. > > I was worried about taking the cortisol at first, but read a fair bit about > it. For anyone not facing a life threatening or other imminent problem specifically requiring a fast detox, a slower detox is preferred... Guest guest
I do not wish to be repetative, but this is where I would add knowthecause.com again. I have been on an " anti-candida " diet for two years. I thought I had always eaten a healthy diet, but this diet really chewed it down drastically. I was given this by a local health food store. It has admittedly taken my body on a real healing journey, along with the other things I have been doing toward reaching the goal. But I have not seen the results that Doug Kauffman has seen with his knowledge of the truth of the growth of fungus in the body being the problem with our health. He has identified where we acquire fungus and has taken that out of the diet if we follow his Phase 1 diet. This is taking " anti-candida " to the next level and I am giving his diet a go now, too. ________________________________ From: Duncan Crow <duncancrow@...> Coconut Oil Sent: Sun, March 20, 2011 5:52:52 PM Subject: Re: Hair loss , in a lot of people the cause of low thyroid and high adrenal output seems to be bowel dysbiosis. Guest guest
Hi , I know you didn't ask for all this information, but the first part has to do with Hair Loss and I thought I would just send everything to you. I hope it helps. Sometimes there are things that you may think you are the only one that this is happening to. So I thought I would write about a few things that happened to me along my journey of losing 105 pounds. My first shock was that about 2 months after having sleeve surgery I notice that when I got out of the shower I would find quite a bit of my hair in the drain screen. I thought to myself I already have thin hair what am I going to do if I keep losing more hair? Well, I did and it was difficult to try to spread my already thin hair all over my head. So I started asked question to people on this board. And guess what there were a lot of people who had lost some of their hair after surgery—not that it made me feel a whole lot better, but I wasn’t alone. I learned that this is pretty normal to loose hair with rapid weight loss or some type of surgery. Then my next question was will it grow back?????—they all assured me it would, but when you have thin hair you don’t really don’t like the bald spots on your head. So, my answer was to get 2 really cute wigs close to my own hair color. Hardly anyone knew I had a wig, because it was close to my own hair style. Lots of people on this site had all kinds of theories about how to stop the hair loss and what to do. For me I found that Nioxin Shampoo and Cream rinse worked well. Most good hair salons sell this shampoo or you can order in on line too .. I felt I had a much healthier scalp after using it. I am not saying it stopped my hair loss. I am just saying I felt it gave me a healthy scalp for my hair to return. I also take the supplement Biotin. You can find it with the Vitamins and I still take it. It helps with hair and nails. Both of which I need. I don’t think there is any cure for hair loss, but just time. My hair stopped falling about 6 months after the surgery and then I noticed it started coming back in. For me; my hair had fully returned about a year from the surg ery. So I wore my wigs for quite awhile—about 6 months. The most unusual part of my hair coming back in was that it was now very curly—and I had pencil straight hair before. I HATED this curly hair, and I had to learn to deal with it. I am about 19 months from surgery and finally my hair isn’t so curly and it has a lot of nice body to it and I enjoy what I have because it is much easier to manage. It feels thicker now too. So don’t panic or get scared if your hair falls out, this is normal. Not everyone will lose hair, but some of us have. My next challenge was constipation. When you eat protein you tend to have constipation. I tried different products for this and the one I have found that works best for me is Miralax. I buy the store band at Costco because it cost less. It works really well for me, and I just mix it in with my Protein drink every morning and I have NO problems with constipation anymore. Walking also helps with constipation. I was embarrassed to ask people on the board about constipation. I thought I was the only one who was having this issue then I found out a lot of people were having these issues. I also eat Almonds and that seems to help me too. We have talked a little or a lot about “slimming or flemming†In case you missed it, when you first start eating regular food you have to re-learn how to eat again and chew. With you new stomach you will need to take small tiny bites and chew until the food in your mouth is almost liquid like. This is nothing like what you had been doing your entire life. In the past you eat and talk and put big bite in your mouth along with a few chews and then swallowing—this will NO LONGER WORK FOR YOU. This is a very difficult thing to change. So with you new stomach and just having surgery you may experience slimming or flemming. First you will feel like the food is stuck, then it comes back up in a clear liquid –your saliva. It isn’t vomit, so that is why it is called slimming or flemming. It’s a wake up call to slow down you eating and chew, and chew and chew some more. Just go to the bathroom or have a napkin ready for the slimming or flemming. If you try to overeat—which is bad you may experience this too sometimes. For me it was always about not chewing enough. When I am full I know I am, at first I wasn’t sure, but sometimes I just got tired of all the chewing, so I stopped eating. I now get the hiccups or my noise will start to run when I am full. I know that other people have said they ex perienced this too. For the new people or people who are thinking of having Weight Loss Surgery, I want you to know that I wouldn’t trade one of these things that happened to me for the wonderful new healthy body I now have and how happy I am. It is ALL worth it. It has made me a much better person. I have been where you are starting and I want you to know that this is the last and final thing that you will ever have to go through. Guest guest
Thank you!! I started with super thick hair and it is now flat and thin ( > > In last month's issue of OH magazine, the doctor said it would come back after your weight has stabilized. The OH doctor also suggested a supplement and when I mentioned that to a support group member, they said it would make hair grow all over your body in places where you did not want it. I will try and find the mag and let you know what that supplement was. > > I am a bit distressed at my hair loss which started at 7 months. Thank goodness I started with thick hair. Now its wispy and real thin. It bothers me a lot. My doctor also said it would come back after my body got used to the surgery as hair loss often happens with any surgery including WLS. > > I will look for the magazine. > > Liz > Hair loss > > > > Hey everyone, > > I know that it is common to lose hair during the weight loss. Guest guest
Found the mag. OH doctor says try zinc supplements or biotin. I heard biotin encourages hair growth all over your body not just your head. I've decided not to take anything at the moment.
