Guest guest
Hello all, Boy, I am really excited to " weigh-in " on this subject. I have been a cosmetologist for 5 years. So I am going to add my two cents. On a daily average a person will lose between 180 to 200 hairs a day. So if you don't wash your hair everyday, say every other day that would be around 400 hairs. which may seem like you are losing hair. I have noiced some hair loss but not a signifigant amount. There is a professional product called Nioxin which has a multitude of products, but they also have a drain stopper in which you can catch your hair as you shampoo it if you are really conerned. i highly reccomend it. Also, on a completly different subject, I went to the doctor for my UTI. I got medicine and after taking it only once I already feel better. Although I got a severe beating with a wet noodle for not coming in sooner. won't make that mistake again. Hope eveyone is having a great day. I am always willing to be a contact for anyone just e-mail me privatley with your questions. Guest guest
Below are three web sites/information from The Manual regarding hair loss. My experience was that I had no success with the Nioxin. The Minoxidil did stop the hair loss and I did not have any rebound hair loss after stopping it's usage. I took the creatine, glutamine as well as biotin sub lingual which was suggested by Dr. R. There are those that swear by the Nioxin but I honestly used it as instructed and found no change at the end of the 30 days in the amount of hair that I was losing. Within 1 week, I noticed much less hair coming out from the Minoxadil and no hair loss to 4-5 strands at 2 weeks. I have very thin, fine hair and had a good bit of loss. Most of it has grown back in at this point, but I'm still thinner than I was. Hoping for continued fill in of those thin areas. in SC 2-22-02 288-180 Dr. R The Women's Institute Home Nutritional Problems Hair Loss
Guest guest
, I started losing hair at the fourth month and started using the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner at month seven. It stopped the hair loss almost immediately. I am now almost nine months post op and have noticed tiny little hairs beginning to grow on my scalp again. You have lost a lot of weight in a very short time and your body is just adjusting. Most of the significant hair loss is supposed to stop around month ten. I hope this helps you. Guest guest
, My hair also came out at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, my hair didn't slow down till, 10 months out. I'm now 12 months and it's finally stopped. I'm noticing a litttle new growth. The texture has changed as well. It's thin and kind of wirey. I took vitamins faithfully and not much will help. Guest guest
, have you had any bloodwork done? Perhaps you are not getting enough protein. The only other things that I can think of to recommend to you are taking Biotin and a supplement at GNC called Hair, Nails, and Skin. I used the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner faithfully. I started to get really worried about it at one point and my hairdresser suggested buying the Nioxin Scalp Therapy. She said she has several clients who are undergoing Chemo that swear by it. It is quite expensive (around $28 for a bottle) but I really think it works and it lasts forever. It doesn't smell that great but you spray it all over your scalp and rub it in after you get out of the shower. I would comb mine through and then put my volumizing mousse through my hair. Once I dried and styled it, you couldn't smell the Scalp Therapy. I used it maybe 3 times a week for about a month or two and my hair came back thicker than before! Good luck, Alisha Ackerman
Guest guest
Dear , Don't despair. The hair loss stops suddenly as it started. Mine started at three months and was over at five months. The beauty of it is my hair came in thicker than before. I've always had fine hair. I had a hair cut last week which finally evened up my hair. By that I mean all the nehair growth is grown out. I am 10 months out from surgery. I take zinc tablets and use zinc shampoo. That is all. I had purchased all the expensive products but took them back when Dr. Rutledge told us the zinc was all that wa necessary. Good luck! Guest guest
-Hi Kim, I wish I could tell you that you could keep this from happening. But at about four to five months out I started to loose my hair. I did two things that I'm sure helped. My protein was at around 50 to 60 grams a day. Too much protein will cause kidney stones and other problems. I would not suggest upping your protein intake too much with out checking with your Dr. The Nioxen treatment has the vitamins and proteins your scalp needs topically. Use it after every shampoo. I use the shampoo, scalp therapy and the treatment. I also take 1000 mgs of Biotin daily. This helps. I also cut my hair to shoulder length to keep the weight from pulling on the scalp. This helps too. Everyone is different with hair loss and the amount they loose. I lost almost half of mine. But with in about a month of using the Nioxen, It stopped coming out. I have not lost any in the shower since. My hairdresser said two weeks ago she could see new hair coming in all over " about a half an inch long. I can see that at the front of my scalp. She also said that I would see a noticeable difference in about six months. I hope this helps a little. I have just begun my 4th month and notice lots of hair in my brush and some loss at the temple and breakage. I have been doing all this, maybe I am just impatient and will take some time to see the results. I need to know for anyone who has experienced this what did you bump your protein consumption up to? I am currently trying for 60g per day but not really sure if this is enough. One friend, an RNY patient told me she did 100g per day and the loss stopped. Guest guest
I have been wanting to reply about this subject. I am 4 months out and experiencing ALOT of hairloss. I don't think it is from lack of protein either because I get in at least 60-80 grams a day. Someone mentioned Zinc, I will try that. I have been taking a chewable multivitamin since the beginning of June. It has not stopped my hairloss. Luckily I have a lot of hair (just look at the pictures!) and it is curly, so not noticeable. But I have to wear my hair up for fear I will have a rug on my back at work and no one will tell me LOL. I go into the ladies room still and turn my shirt around, get all the hair off, then turn it back around. And my car, let's not talk about my car seat. It looks like sasquatch threw up there. And Curtis keeps giving himself black eyes at night in bed from slapping at what he thinks is a bug crawling when all it is is my loose hair. I liked the analogy that someone else here said "I would rather be skinny and bald then fat with hair" LOL. Should put that on a t-shirt for WLS patients. Guest guest
The hair loss will stop soon. I promise. I was freaking out because my hair was falling out in clumps. Special shampoo, lots of vitamins, suppliments...anything that someone recommended I tried. I have been told that some people have this reaction partially due to the anesthesia. Plus I have hypothyroidism which is notorious for causing it, so who knows. I went and bought some Zinc, and a pill splitter today. Oh, for those that are pre-op, invest in a pill splitter. I bought pill crushers but I cannot stand the taste no matter what I try to disguise it in. So now I can split the pill into a pea size and take it. Guest guest
I think this is one of the those areas that varies from individual to individual. I'm not losing hair any more or less than before banding. Don't sweat it! Jackie > I heard centrum silver or a multi-vitamin for older people works for > hair loss. Guest guest
Hmmm, I went into Sally's Beauty Supply here the other day and looked at the hair pieces, the ones you can clamp on to a pony tail. I also wanted to mention that my hair loss didn't start until about a month ago. I am still looking ok, meaning I don't have any bald spots but it is really driving me crazy to keep finding hair everywhere. (Curtis said I need to wear a net at all times LOL) I am taking extra zinc, trying to get in at least 70-80 grams of protein (hard!) and taking a multivitamin now. , can you tell me again one of those protein drinks you order online that has the most protein? I am thinking I can drink at least one in replace of my regular popcorn snack. (BTW , am I the only one addicted to popcorn now?) In Texas 280/215/160 http://www.tracyslapband.com Re: hair loss I'm having serious hair loss right now too. I invested in a hairpiece, rather than a full wig. It is exactly the same color as my hair, and it's the same length too. It covers the crown area and attaches with what are called toupee clips. No one - not even my partner - can tell I have it on. I paid nearly US$200 for it, but it was worth every penny!
