Guest guest
I stopped giving Ketoconazole to my dog yesterday after 20 days of it, I just couldnt give it any longer. We are now on a home cooked diet of mostly meat, calcium, green beans, eggs. All meds are stopped right now, and I am going to slowly try to add different meats, and supplements. Thank you for your support and help. I'll keep you updated on how his yeast infection is looking. Right now, he looks 80 percent better, but I still see it on his legs, belly, and under his throat area. I dont smell it anymore. I have an arsenal of medicated shampoos, hopefully that and the aloe vera gel will help with the healing. Barb
Guest guest
Howdy Barb, So glad to hear that your poochie is doing better. But please don't use the medicated shampoos on him. They are loaded with chemicals. I think there's a sulfur one, Sulfex??? But I don't know it's ingredients. His skin is so sensitive right now & his system is doing all it can to rid the toxins... why dump more things on him to deal with? I know my little likes warm Epsom Salts baths & they are recommended by Bee for us human folks. It also calms his itching. Again, so glad to hear about his improvement. Guest guest
Hi Barb, if I could chip in on this - of course dogs in the wild would never eat any grains, rarely anything raw unless they were feeling a bit under the weather, and all their meat would be raw. We cook the meat because WE wouldn't eat it raw and can't countenance our pets having to either, but in reality, do you ever see a wild animal slaving over a hot stove in an apron??? It is also interesting that wild animals will always go for the offal first - the heart, liver, kidneys etc., because it is higher in nutrition than the muscle meat. I don't know about dogs, but I always feel better after I have eaten offal! For your pet's health you might like to check out Dogtor J - Symes, who is a very enlightened vet. He has realised that it is feeding pets the wrong food - our food - that is also giving them our diseases. Also do not give your dog any supplements. If you give him calcium he would also need magnesium otherwise he will get many muscle cramps, pains and issues, as well as calcium deposits in his tissues, etc. As another member advised, do not use any kind of medicated shampoo on him which are toxic. Use a natural soap like you would use on your own body, which doesn't contain any fragrances, or other toxic ingredients. I do not have time to find one for you, but maybe other members can help. Guest guest
***Barb, May I suggest checking out Dr. Becker's website. She works in conjunction with Dr. Mercola. Here is her website: http://healthypets.mercola.com/ Dr. Becker specializes in pets. She has suggestions on skin issues, medications, and feeding pets properly. When you said " WE are now on a home cooked diet of mostly meat, calcium, green beans, eggs. " I was not sure if you meant you or you and your doggie. It's wonderful if someone chooses to feed their animal a home cooked diet, but you must be very careful because an improper home cooked diet that doesn't include all the needed protien, fats, carbs, minerals and vitamins doggies need can be very dangerous. It's not as simple as taking what you are eating and putting in their bowls because (just like us) they need a certain amount of protein, fats, carbs, vitamins and minerals according to their species. I was considering giving my dog a home cooked diet so I ordered Dr. Becker's book on how to do it properly and watched many of her videos. I hope this is helpful to you. Best wishes to you and your beloved doggie Amy ---SNIP---- > > I stopped giving Ketoconazole to my dog yesterday after 20 days of it, I just couldnt give it any longer. Guest guest
Hi Amy, thanks for sending that link to Dr. Becker's site. I am worried about doing the home cooked diet, but it is a diet that was laid out by the dermatologist. It is lacking in vitamins and minerals, so I intend to change it once we get over this hump. I also have the Volhard book, but her book includes a lot of carbs, and I will be needing a candida free type book. I'll look into the book on the website, do you know if her recipes can be adjusted for yeast free cooking?. Barb > > ***Barb, > May I suggest checking out Dr. Becker's website. Of course big industries make lots of money perscribing the wrong foods and supplements for pets, which makes them sick, so vets can give them drugs (poison) to treat them just like doctors do with humans.
