you all continue.

No, no, no...she shouldn't kick Tim...that would just keep him out of service

longer!!! Sounds like he is still recovering from that awful auto accident!!!

Nah, Tim should buy her an ax and a chainsaw--nothing as satisfying as

dropping a big tree. Plus you have firewood and a costume for Halloween.

Hi, Granny! (You wouldn't believe what they've done to the English language

in your absence! ;o))

Yes Granny...12 hours after had his first seizure, some jerk going at

least 50 mph hit him while he was stopped. He's off work with a sprained

neck, shoulders, back and hips. His hand is numb and he is getting sharp

pains now. He also lost his taste buds. He's off to see a neurologist as

well. I bet our insurance just loves us for this month!

WOW, you do have a lot on your plate. I can't imagine moving, when you feel dizzy and nauseous. Plus, you have to care for little Jai. Love and blessings to you.

Lots of life hassles and not real well, very dizzy and nauseous. Have to move house in three weeks, Jai is OK right now, only peeing 15-20 times per day. I am not on top of anything at the moment, will have to get organised - so much to do, I feel very overwhelmed right now.It will sure take me a while to catch up here again, seems I just get caught up and then get behind again....Thanks for the Meneires links Aisha, have saved them and will check them out tomorrow when I am not so tired. Seems the Meneires is more of a problem than I thought, as I have been dizzy and nauseous, (room spinning etc) for a couple of weeks now, am really tired of it.

Hi gang-just a note to let you know my mom's 85th suprise B-day went off without a hitch. Six months of planning paid off. She hasn't stopped talking about it and just keeps saying "I can't believe it was all for me!" It really made her realize how important she has been to our family. She has been the one to always take care of all the old folks as well as nieces and nephews way back before I came along :D Homebound at 85, she has been very depressed but now she is a new woman-it was well worth all the work!

I am now about to get back into my soap business !

I, too got a bug about two weeks ago....a fever for four days and I

ached everywhere. I skpped all BFL for one full week and about two

days. Now I am back on workouts but am having a heck of a time

getting back to doing the meals right. (I had been using fit day and

logging in everything and now I just have NO motivation at all!!). I

am seriously starting to wonder if I will ever get my enthusiasm back

and if I will get back to BFL!!!! I now have a little less than

three weeks left of challenge two. This is exactly where I was when I

dropped out over two years ago, never achieving my goals. I am just

not getting where I want to be and now I feel so derailed. Lets just

hope somewhere I get it all back and can get going again...hmmm I

was doing GREAT until I got sick!

I think we've all been there, myself pretty recently. I am just back

on the wagon 100% last week. I had a two week vacation which I

allowed myself and then pretty soon it was 3 weeks and then 4 and

then 5 and then the jeans were too tight and then I was

irritable...and finally I decided to be accountable again too!!

I think it's a good idea to have a transition week. Works for me

anyway. Each day I add one more goal (meal or workout) to my goals

and by the end of the week I'm gung ho and ready to hit it hard!

" Then again, success breeds success " I LOVE THIS QUOTE!!

I tried to find your pics... did you post them at the group, or another

site?

Back Again

The only time I have been reasonably successful on BFL was when I was

a part of this board about a year and a half ago. As part of the

process I posted pics this morning and my measurements are as follows.

Hips – 41 ½ "

Abdomen – Big – 32 ½ "

Abdomen – Belly Button – 29 ½ "

Thigh – 25 "

Chest – 30 "

Bust – 34 "

Bicep – 12 "

Body fat – Uncle Chucks (average of method 2 and 3) 32.8%

It is good to be back.

Lydia,

I posted my pics under " dj " . I posted them here with this group.

Thanks for looking... It somehow makes things more official..:-)...

They are kinda dork though. My husband and son are gone on a boy

scout camp out, so I had to take the pictures in the mirror... OH

WELL. Thanks for the support.

Dora,

Just finished your second book, " I Danced " ! It was as good as the

first! ( " Journey Out of Silence " ) I just love the way you write,

and the stories are so personal and inspiring! I used a quote from

you in my sign language class for tomorrow!

I have a " hot seat " activity that I ask my intermediate students to

do. I toss them an ape, affectionately named " Hot Seat " . Whoever

catches the ape has to sit at the front of the class. I then play a

tape that I have pre-recorded with 2-3 sentences on it. Each time

the topic, vocabulary, etc., is different. I recited, " Dora Weber,

in her book " Journey Out of Silence " stated, " I had loved and

listened to music all my hearing years so I did carry many songs in

my heart while I was deaf. Often I would wake up with one in mymind

and it would remain with me for days. One of those times, it

was, " It is No Secret, " that played over and over. " Sometimes my

students " choke " -- grin -- and sometimes they do really well.

Everyone's personality handles pressure differently! Anyway, since I

saw your post it reminded me to tell you how much I've enjoyed your

books!

Hi.

Your Daughter is Normal. Most kid's run a pattern with snapping around a

flare. They feel the pain but do not want to be in pain. They have a defense

of putting the pain into actions or snapping.

I would just sit down with all of the kid's and explain what is going

on. 1 the kid's do not mean what they say. It is like when we are in pain and

we don't need the pain at that time. lolol is 19 and still will snap

or get those Mood swings. Some I let slide by but other times I will Snap

back at her. At the age of your daughter I would let her know you do not want

this to become a Habit. As it also is embaressing at times if in public. But

also she has Siblings which means she is showing a Role and they may take it as

the way they should be. Sit her down and explain that she is also a Role

model for the younger kid's.

The not taking meds well. I have to say sit and talk with her if a Flare

starts up she has to take the meds. You want her to take the meds and not

flush them. See 's Meds wasn't working either way so she just stopped

meds all together. Unless she has a Flare she made the promise to me so that

has worked out good.

Now another thing which could be going on is the Image. She doesn't want

to be Different.

But also she is getting in to that age of being her own person as well.

Allow her to make some choices BUT be clear you have the last say on it. Be Firm

on it to. Kid's being normal will Push a Parent to see how far they can push

them. Once they see they can't push far then they will stop and go to

something else.

Being a Parent is tough. Remember you have more than 1 child and you have

to be Fair.

Which a child can do this on you quickly. Well you let so and so do it. Well

then the child sees it as not being fair. So watch for this.

As matured she was allowed to take her Treatment in her hands

and say what she wanted. If I seen it wasn't a right choice I talked with her.

Then we met in the middle.

Allowing her more and more choice taking.

You have a tough Job on your hands. But up and foremost sweetie. Be

Honest with all the kid's. Be Fair. Be Firm. Always say I love you and give

them

all huggies. Even if they claim they are to old do it anyway lolol. Then

Smile and say Thank you :-).

My daughter was 8 when dx with arthritis and when she was 9 or 10 she also

decided

to not take meds. It was a hard time for everyone. I let her stay off the meds

until things got bad then she was okay with going back on. However, this time

she makes more decisions about her health. Things are better now. (at least when

it comes to the arthritis) She feels more in control. I think that is a BIG

issue for kids as they get older. I still make the ultimate decisions but I make

sure that Elaney gets to choose when it is appropriate. Hope this

helps.--- & Elaney(12 poly)

kklmn <kleeman3@...> wrote:

Hi all, It has been many years since I have read the posts in this

group. The words of wisdom here helped me so much, I am back again

for some help.

my daughter Casey has had JRA since she was 18 months old and she is

8 years old now. When she was first diagnosed, she went through what

most of your chilren did, testing...testing....testing. She has been

on various meds and have a great doc here in the chicago area. We

are entering a phase where a few things are happeneing that concern

me and I am looking for any words of wisdom from those of you kind

enough to shre.

First, she has had a flare up again. i know she tends to get them

in the fall. Previously I have attributed them to the school year

and how tired she gets but i was wondering if you all see it have a

definite routine. her poor knee is so achey and she insisted on

going to gymnastics today. i couldn;t say no but she hurt herself

because her leg gave out on her. It really breaks my heart, and when

i say no she fights me on it. I have refused to let her take ice

skating because I cannot handle the idea of her falling on her

knees that much ( and it is NOT cool, I was told, to wear knee

pads...lol).

Second, before she has a flare up, we see a denfite change of

personality. She becomes like a wounded animal-- angry, snaps at

others and internalizes much of her pain thus becoming very anxious.

We are trying to locate a therapist who deals with chronic pain to

help us with some coping straties. It is not fair to my two younger

children to experience the roller coster too. Any stratigies anyone

have? For the most part, this is a calm, kind, funny, friendly girl

but another side of her comes out right before the flare and

continues throughout until we get the inflammation under control. I

know she is in pain and I want to try ot help her handle it better.

Third, she is refusing to take her medicine. She does not want to

be different and I tell her to take her meds and she says Ok, but

then she doesn't. unless I stand there and literally watch her

swallow, she will try to get by without taking it, especially if she

feels good at that particulr moment. Any advice? I took her to our

regualr ped. to talk with her about the importance of knowing her

pain, identifying the issues and of course the importance of taking

medicine.

Anyway, i feel like we are entering a new pahse of this. she is

older, knows what is going on and knows we are asking for her to

understand her disease a bit.i also think she is not diagnosed

correctly as it was only in her knees for a while and now she is

complaining that her wrists, ankles, back, and bottoms of her feet

hurt as well.

Thanks for reading my vent here, any ideas?

Hi Lindy Lou,

Thanks, I needed that hug. I got the official measurments yesterday

that they will be sending to the Surgeon. Left Knee 124-degrees

active, 129-degrees flex & 0 degrees extension. Right Knee 127
