Guest guest
Barb, I did not have trouble tracing my lard (about 30 minutes) but I did use coconut and olive oils also. Are you using a stick blender in between stirring? Guest guest
, Once you find a recipe you want to try, go to www.thesage and run it through the lye calculator. At the bottom of the page there a box which contains the weight of your batch. Change that number to the size you want in the format you used the first time, ounces or pounds, and hit the resize key. This is a neat feature. It doesn't matter what size you put in to calculate-you just resize it and you have what you want. If you are still needing a basic lard recipe let me know and I will send a couple to you. As for the searches I have found hundreds of recipes but you have to really work to get them. But I doublt you will find one as big as 10#'s without running it through thesage. Hope this gets what you need. Guest guest
KJ, Lard comes from pigs and tallow comes from cows. Hope this helps. Debbie
Guest guest
Lard is fat from pigs, and every grocery store I know of carries it, look in the Crisco aisle. My Wal-Mart carries 2 different brands. A pound should be less than a dollar. Re: Re: Laundry soap recipe needed > Sorry, iam late for thanking you for these great recipes! This is probably a silly question but alot of recipes call for it and that is lard. What is lard and where do I get it? I mean I know it's fat but where do i get a big chunk of lard? What would be concidered lard? Thankyou again. Ellen >

Guest guest
, if you want lard, contact me off-list and I will let you know where I can get it. love and gratitude, Barb ________________________________ From: Levitz <@...> Sent: Fri, July 2, 2010 5:18:50 PM Subject: Lard Where would one by pastured lard while they wait for the warehouse to open back up??? 2 of my kids are dairy free so lard is especially important here. My only experience with tallow was a horrible, miserable, vile experience. And we can only stomach coconut oil for certain things. Guest guest
, We buy lard from Prairie Pride at the St Farmers Market. I think it is about $30 for a 4 lb bucket. I scoop some out to keep in the fridge and put the rest in the freezer. http://www.prairiepridepork.com/products/index.php?catid=

Guest guest
I have gotten lard from Lighthouse Farm and loved it. I've also purchased lard from the Mill City Farmer's market and thought it was inedible. Just my two cents
Guest guest
Hi, I have lard--tons of it! Not all is processed so either processed or frozen waiting to be processed is available. Contact me off list if you are interested. The piggies were pastured, fed non-GMO feed free choice, garden scraps, kitchen scraps, goat milk, cheese, and hay the goats didn't want. They were happy hogs! Now they are tasty chops!
Guest guest
Any of your grass fed/pastured farmers and natural farmers at the farmers market probably have it. St. has a market every Saturday all year (and some other days). You may have to render it yourself though, especially if you want to save money. > > Anyone know where I can get some? Don't want to go to the local butcher because I want it from a pig that I know was raised well. I don't have space or the cash to buy a whole pig at the moment either - just looking for the lard. > > Thanks! >
Guest guest
I am not sure who the original poster was, but my meat farmer, Mike Braucher, sells pig lard from well raised pigs. Google him with a Sunshine Harvest web search to learn about his operation. He does drop off orders in Plymouth (contact me if interested) the first Thursday of each month, or he has other delivery dates and areas available if that is not close to you. Guest guest
Noticed that the lard I have by Tenderflake, the only one they sell in our grocery stores, has BHA, BHT and citric acid. Is this okay to take? Tina

Guest guest
Yeah, in retrospect, I should have just googled what they are, duh, sorry. I just cannot find any other lard, so I'll have to try to order some from a health food store. Thanks Bee, sorry to waste you time on that, Tina > > > +++Hi Tina, > > Why ask this question when you know that BHA and BHT are chemicals? > > Bee >

Guest guest
It was that easy? -Tami > > I just got around to rendering some lard today (thank you farm). It was my first time (I know, I know, where have I been?). It was so easy and made the whole neighborhood smell good. The cracklins' were AWESOME with sea salt. My kids and I happily sat outside and played in the leaves while eating our crispy -fried-vitamin D and soaking it up from the sun as well. Heaven.. >
