Guest guest
Roasted pumpkin seeds are what I am eating lately. But perhaps that sort of mindless snacking in front of the TV is a habit that should be discouraged.... I enjoy beef jerky, and salmon jerky, too. But the last batch of beef jerky I found had corn and wheat mixed into the marinade. So you need to read the label. Gretchen (newbie) snacks Okay, I just had breakfast. It was eggs with lots of butter and that was it. I'm starting over. Now what do you do for snacks here. Like if you're sitting on the couch watching TV with your kids and they're all eating popcorn. Guest guest
Walnuts and Pumpkin seeds are good snacks that you can also easily take with you on the go. I also enjoy nutbutters such as almond butter and tahini. I like to have the almond butter with apple or banana and the tahini with cut veggies like carrots and celery. I also try to snack on a few blueberries and cherries everyday. If you need more protein, then homemade beef jerky is great. Eventually after you make the correct type O diet changes and your body adjusts and heals you may find that you don't feel the need to snack as often. Next try adding some veggies to your breakfast. In addition to my protein source I usually have a big serving of collard greens that have already been cooked and I steam a sliced sweet potato and onion, which are served with plenty of olive oil. I start my veggies to be steamed first and they are done in 10 minutes which is usually when the rest of my breakfast is ready. Don > Okay, I just had breakfast. You can toast your own and spice them any way you want from just adding salt, to garlic, to spicy with cayenne (another HB) etc. A variety of spices keep me from getting burnt out on them - I need variety. If you have a health food store, sometimes they carry them already done in the bulk sections.
Guest guest
I eat nuts and seeds for snacks. Walnuts and pumpkin seeds are both HB. I also eat almonds and pecans (both neutral) because I like them. Sometimes I roast them with butter and sea salt. For a special treat I do roasted almonds with butter and xylitol. For a really special treat, almonds or walnuts with butter, xylitol, and organic cocoa powder. (Walnuts seem to get bitter with just butter and xylitol, but they're yummy if I add the cocoa.) Sometimes I get beef jerky without chemicals from a local butcher. I use that when I'm traveling. I'd use it more often, except it's expensive. Snacks are also a good time to have HB fruit. P. S. , is it OK to eat fruit and nuts together? snacks Okay, I just had breakfast. It was eggs with lots of butter and that was it. I'm starting over. Now what do you do for snacks here. Guest guest
Probably you dont find too much in the 'snack' category because you are eating 5-6 small MEALS a day and not really 'snacks' - old school thinking eh? ;-) That said one of my 'nibbling items' that really is a meal, are soynuts - they have equal protein/carbs in them and come in BBQ, Honey, and Ranch flavors. You can find some different kinds of jello etc here: http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/dessert2.html <<joni>> *eat to live but dont live to eat* ;-)

Guest guest
The cracker thing can work, but I'd try to find something a little more hardcore than Ritz. Even the " wheat " ones don't actually have whole wheat as a first ingredient. Triscuits aren't bad, or maybe some of those rye crisp things. I like to put tuna on stone ground wheat crackers. It's a decent little meal. A lot fewer calories and carbs than making a sandwich with bread. " Snacks " Hi all. Ok, I know I shouldn't called any of the 6 meals snacks...but, I already need a break from smoothies so I was trying to find out what else I could eat. I added up about 3-4 oz of white turkey deli meat and about 5-10 wheat ritz crackers and it came to about 24/24/5 for protein, carbs and fat. I just put the deli meat on the crackers and ate it that way. I guess I could do it with wheat bread and make a sandwich but I wanted something more fun. Does this sound ok as a meal? I feel like I am cheating because it is so yummy, what does everyone think? THANKS!
Guest guest
Thanks for the ideas. I ate too many servings of bread yesterday thinking that since it was whole wheat bread and the carbs did not go over what I needed, it was ok. I'll just stick to one a day then. I am getting tired of CC already. I hate the taste and have only put it in shakes but was looking for some snack ideas that didn't include it. I think I need to get some Protein Powder. It looks like most of the shakes have that in them. Thanks again. Guest guest
: Have you tried adding fruit to cottage cheese?? i love it that way. I do either pears or canned tropical fruit salad or fresh peaches or necturines. If you use canned fruit, put it in a strainer & rince w/ cool water for a while to get the sugar off. I also make a chicken salad that I love - 2 cans canned chicken breast 5 egg whites some mustard enough FF Mayo to mix together(i usually measure out 2tbsp so I can carefully track what I eat) Eat w/ some WW Crackers or 1pc WW bread cooked in the oven to make it hard and just tear off pieces. > Thanks for the ideas. Guest guest
For starters: Protein bars-bring ziploc bags in case she eats only 1/2 Would remind her of food sanitation issues Protein powder to add to things-bring in original container They may sell the low-fat asceptic milk boxes over there Sounds like a good time! Snacks I have a patient who will be traveling to Tailand and surrounding areas in a few weeks and she is wondering what to eat while there. At this point she is eating around 1/2 cup of food at a time so she is feeling hungry every few hours. Does anyone have any idea of what she can carry with her to snack on that is high in protein and legal to take with? Guest guest
Are you asking about Snacks in addition to the 6 meals per day? Guest guest
I know you don't like cottage cheese, and neither do I, but I just had this. 1/4 c fat free cottage cheese, 1/4 cup oatmeal (not cooked), splenda, vanilla extract (or some other extract) Apple Honestly if you mix the oatmeal and the cottage cheese and add splenda and some flavor it is good and non-offensive. I'd been using banana extract but ran out. Now I am using my strawberry extract. It is good! And it makes such a small amount that you can eat it in like 5 bites. It's not a lot of calories, not a lot of protein, but I make up for it at my other meals. Have you tried mixing anything with the Cottage cheese? Some people find that helps. One of my favorite meals when berries are in season is blackberries or raspberries, CC and a bit of vanilla lowfat yogurt. Another great one is to nuke a sweet potato, let it cool, blend with portion of CC, add pumpkin pie seasoning and sweetner to taste. I have been having tooth problems (root canal, temp crown) so lately have been doing a lot of soups or beans with ff cheese on the side for protein. Guest guest
Get some deli turkey and roll a few slices of it up in finger size rolls to go with a piece of the fruit. Forget all the crackers and pretzels. They'll spike your insulin and end up on your butt or thighs. Plus, they don't do a very good job at filling you up anyway. Guest guest
Here are some: Raylene's Jello (shown here exactly as I received it) 1 packet Sugar Free Jello - Your favorite flavor 2 cups low- or no-fat cottage cheese 1 serving of vanilla protein powder 1 can or about 2 servings of fresh fruit Blend cottage cheese and protein powder together in the blender. While it blends, boil one cup of water and If your fruit is canned, drain and run under water to rinse off excess sugars. Divide the fruit between 4 containers (I use the glad throwaway containers - they are just the right size) When water boils add it to jello and dissolve. Slowly add the jello to cottage cheese/protein powder mixture and let the blender run for about a minute. Pour the cottage cheese mixture evenly between the 4 containers. Chill for 4 or more hours. Add a dollop of Redi-whip to the top and enjoy (real whipped cream, come on - it's only 20 calories, 2g fat, less than 1 carb). It's like mousse with little bits of nirvana in it. I do this with: - Orange Jello & Mandarin Orange Slices - Lime jello and crushed pineapple - strawberry jello and peaches - cranberry jello & fresh raspberries For a real treat add 2/3 cups of strawberries to the cottage cheese mixture along with the jello and pour over fresh strawberries.
