Guest guest
I think that you are eating food that are irritaing you. If you figure out waht is causing it you can limit the amount you eat. I will metnion this to the doctor and see what he recommends. I will get back to you. Nina > > > > > > I often get heartburn. You should not expect to lose ANY weight in the first weeks until you get a fill. Anything you lose is a bonus. When you have a proper fill, which may take a number of them, you'll lose just fine, though you should remember that you shouldn't lose more than two pounds a week, and one to two is average. Are you exercising? If not, get started. Also, what are you eating? Even if your band doesn't force you to limit your eating much, you should still do so. Remember, just because you can doesn't mean you should...and that applies to many things in life, naturally. c> Any of you have heartburn? So what are you eating for breakfast? Guest guest
Hi Dana, For the first 2 or 3 days after my fill, I was getting this sensation. That is why I was scared of being too tight because that is the symptoms. Now I guess I have loosened up a bit because I don’t get that feeling. And same with me, it didn’t happen with milk based products or coffee. Even if you have had your fill for a while, you may have tightened up. I wouldn’t let it last too much longer because you could be messing up your esophagus with reflux (which is what is happening). Also you may need to take something for it just to get passed this time if you think it is only temporary. Guest guest
//Has anyone had heartburn or burning sensation after drinking?// Dana, If I drink anything too acidic, I get the heartburn feeling (never happened before) and then I feel really restricted. I thought it was just my body acting funny. I am glad to know someone else is experiencing it. I am able to drink the crystal light fruit punch and peach tea with no problem. The tangerine/strawberry (which I love) and any kind of lemonade, kills me. A friend of mine is a wine connoisseur and he said different wines restrict your esophagus (I don't know if this is true or not). I guess that must apply to other drinks as well?? 7/18/05 280/180/
Guest guest
Thanks , Maybe the extra restriction we have does the same to our esophagus as the wine?? I get them at Walmart. I chew about 4 of them and they are great for heartburn and gas, as soon as I chew them, I start burping, also they help break down meat that is a little stuck. I love the taste and you can't overdose on them. Hope this helps. Deb The Band is Grand

Guest guest
Yes, NW Fill Management will fill clients of any doc. They are very good - Kitty Carmichael, NP is very experienced with fills, and now has a fluoro available on some days too. Robin , the office manager, is banded herself, as is her adult son. They are both great gals and vry knowledgeable. NW Fill Management All info: http://www.northwestfills.com/ Sandy R > > Hi! > > Fills in Arlington? Guest guest
Kitty is an ARNP and therefore all she does is fills for other doctors patients. (she does work for a doctors office too) It was 150 for the first visit and unfill. She has her prices listed on the website. She does have fluoro available if needed for 200$, but she doesn't use it routinely. It is in Arlington Washington, just to be clear. You can just look up Kitty Carmichael, she is at Northrwest fill management. N -------------- Original message -------------- From: Annette Roach <chimom321@...> Hi! Fills in Arlington? Guest guest
Hello Caroline You might be going through a bit of a healing crisis or detoxing event. You could reduce the amount you take by at least half and then slowly work your way up again. Or you could stop taking it for a few days and then begin again with small amounts and working to larger doses. Others on this message board might have different ideas. I would persevere if I were you because the VCO is so good for your health it seems. You could also get some Betaine Hydochloric Acid (BHA) and take one when you take food and/or VCO. BHA is stomach acid. Some people think that reflux and/or heart burn is caused from too much but usually the opposite is true. If you take too much of the BHA, you will know it as it will give you a burning sensation. I have been taking 1 cap of BHA with meals. One day I thought I would take 2 caps and I had burning sensations so now I know what is about the right dose for me. I don't know your diet but stay away from sausages, pork of any kind, any deli meats and shell fish and cheese. Also do not drink pop or energy drinks ...they are killers, cancer in a bottle/can. If you must have an occasional soda, get the regular kind. Avoid anything with Aspartame or Splenda in it. Let us know how you do. Helen Heartburn Hi everyone, I have just recently started taking VCO. I took it because I read that it was great for reflux. I've been experiencing throat burning for a few months. When I take the VCO it takes care of most of the throat burning but I get a lot of heart burn which I never had before. The VCO has helped the abdominal pain I've also had on my left side by my ribs. I would love to continue to take the VCO but I'm afraid it's making me worse in a way. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I might be getting the heart burn? I've been taking about 1 tsp a day for about 2 weeks and just increased it to 2 tsps today. I take it with raw honey and wash it down with a mouthful of water and then follow that with bee pollen. I've heard that VCO is great for healing a damaged esophagus which I might have and now I'm wondering it it's making it worse. Should I persevere a bit longer? Any suggestions or ideas would be most welcome and I thank you in advance. Caroline
Guest guest
Heartburn is heartburn - but it is always dangerous, especially in bandsters. There are different causes in band patients most of the time, though, and some different fixes - like unfills when needed. big, sudden heartburn usually means big problemns, - sometimes a slip or dilated piuch. if it starts right after a new fill, the fill is too much. See the " Reflux " document here in the files. with what you describe, it sounds as if stress plus not-quite-right eating is the culprit here, and i think you can fix it yourself. The first thing to delete for now is that coffeee! Please follow the guidlines in the document - and please let us know how you are in a couple days. Guest guest
I tried looking at the files but they say they are unavailable. I had a really tight band week three weeks ago, but now I feel like it is perfect. I had a fill one month ago and then my period started ( sorry guys) so with the swelling from the fill and that I was really tight, but now feel it is ok. Actually this is the first time that I feel full after a good band meal- I think too full, as I am just learning the signs of being full as opposed to stopping because I have eaten my band portion. I think that it is user error too, but hear that this is a sign of slip or dilation and don't want to be stupid and ignore it. This is the first issue I have really had with the band and just wanted to be sure that it did not warrant and 2 hour drive to doc tomorrow. I will touch base with them for sure, but now I can sleep. thanks so much > > > > Ok, is heartburn ever just heartburn in a banded patient. I have > been > > having a little heartburn lately. Guest guest
He Steph, See that Sandy and you have already discussed, but here are a few comments from my experience. I'm much more sensitive to acidic or spicy foods since being banded, so I don't eat citrus or chili or some other things like that any more. I love them, but they're not worth the pain. Same for coffee, though I'll have a cup once in a while. I never had heartburn before being banded. I'm also always sure to never eat within two hours of lying down, and to drink at least one large glass of water before bedtime. I'm particularly careful on this since I had a UP3 surgery ten years before banding, and I aspirate VERY easily. dan Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 10:34:03 AM, you wrote: > Ok, is heartburn ever just heartburn in a banded patient. Guest guest
I'll forward you the Files. Not sure why you cannot access them,.. However, i'm little concerned now that you say you were too tight did not get fill out. wht often happens then is that we dilate our pouches, which is a type of slip - and one of th symptoms ir new reflux. you really need to see your doc and get a fluoro to see if the4 pouch is still ok. It probably is, but you want to take no chances. Getting more fill later on with a dilated pouch can lead to a full slip needing more surgery. The #1 reason for all the small and big band poblems is trying to keep a too-tight fill. Sadly, most docs give little or NO info on what a good full IS - vs one too tight likely to cause trouble. Guest guest
It does sound wonderful. Did I see somewhere that you have an online diary/photo album of it? I would love to see it. Guest guest
brenda - From an eqrlier one of Dan's posts : (access his great albums here) " I have been working on catching up pictures and text on the web, though there is still a ways to go on both. The text, which has updating for the last ten days or so, is at www.riverofdata.com/trip/. More to come. The pictures are at http://08corvette.smugmug.com The latest four (by when I created them) albums are listed as featured albums at the top of the page. But if you click on the travel group, you'll see that they are in order by date. The first places we visited are at the bottom and the most recent at the top. There are a few places that will be merged into the proper order, namely Lima, Panama, Costa Rica, Daytona, and Key West.
