Guest guest
Dear April, If the hepatologist is good the wait will be well worth it. Also, it gives you a little time to do more research, etc. Good luck, and let us know how it goes. Guest guest
Marg, Great job, I had my MGB on Jan 26 and you have done so much better than me but I know we are all different, I was 297 and now 220. I am much slower but at least it is getting less. I am hoping I get off of this 220 which I've been here for over 6 weeks. You are doing fantastic. Keep up the good work. Are you going to the picnic? I hope so and we can meet there. It will be so nice to put a face to a name. Rosemary Commisso
Guest guest
Rosemary, Thanks so much but you are doing great. I wish i was going to picnic but somethingg came up and I am out of town. I will be gone til Christmas. I was so disappointed about not getting to meet everyone. But maybe next time. I hope by then I will be at goal lol. It would be so great to wake up one day and be skinny lol. But it has been a journey, I am glad I got to make. I bet even though I may have lost more weight you have probably lost more inches. It is funny how this surgery works isn't it. hugs marg
Guest guest
Rosemary: My mgb was 11-29-2000 and I have lost 98 pounds in almost 9 months. I am happy with that loss and just hope to continue loosing. I have been on so many plateaus that it seems that should be my name. I hit one shortly after the first month. It was a long 7 week plateau. Was off for about 3 weeks and do you know I hit another one for 5 weeks Now that was discouraging but I seem to have done well the rest of the time and but have not lost at a regular basis the whole time. It sounds like you have done great so far so don't get discouraged. Phyllis in fla

Guest guest
Malinda - You will soon find that you know more than the doctors... however, you can find someone to help through http://alternativementalhealth.com - they have a directory of practitioners that are " qualified " to taper... http://www.AlternativeMentalHealth.com/directory/ This should help you and everyone else, such as myself, trying to get off one of these hideous drugs. Lynn > Hi all, > > I want to share something I have found out. I've been to him previously, but this time was on the advise of the psychiatrist who did finally give me the table form of effexor to taper from. Anyhow, this neurologist admitted to me that my problems were due to these drugs. Would he write that? NO. They are there to treat the symptoms. I told him he would be seeing more and more people like me. Kids too. That got a rise out of him, and he agreed and said " OHH the kids are a mess! Especially with Ritalin. " He said he hoped the kids who are on these drugs don't live to be teenagers. He also said that our society is headed for a major crisis due to these drugs.... can you believe it? Why won't he speak up?? Anyhow, I got the impression that he does not agree with what the psychiatrists are doing. Would he publicly voice that? Probably not. Well, I got off topic here. What he confirmed was that the problems I'm experiencing ARE from these drugs. The Tremors: He said he'd like to try me on mysoline at a very low dose. It would be for cosmetic reasons only. We got into what was causing the tremors, and he said that my adrenal glands were " over sensitive " . I asked about testing them, he said it was too invasive and quite dangerous, told me that to test it they would have to inter somewhere in the lower part of the body, and run (something) up through to reach the gland. I still took his word at this. How naive I am!! I came home, and looked on the internet, and there are several ways to test the adrenals!!! Simply by catching urine 24 hours!! Why am I not intitled to these tests/?? Why must they keep lying to me?? The first time I went to see him, I asked him if there was a way to test my brain, and oh I can't remember what all I asked him to test in my brain. He said no, that that would take a PET scan and there was not one anywhere near here. A few weeks ago, Amarillo, got a PET scan, and when I suggested this to him again, he said no, this wouldn't work. Does anyone remember Maura's post, about what she found when she had to go all the way to California, to get the answers she was looking for? Maura, are you out there? I feel I have been validated by him saying my adrenals are " over sensitive " Any exercise, anything requiring any any kind of response from my body sets off a whole sleu of symptoms. He also said, we wouldn't know if this is permanent till I'm off the drug. I'm at 1/2 the dose I was on. I've had a difficult time, but no crisis. If anyone can point me to Maura's post.... please do. I've already done a search on the site, and can't come up with it for some reason. It's very detailed. At the time, I wasn't able to understand it even. > I do hope everyones doing the best they can....... It just tears me up, with all the people suffering. > Hugs to all, > Malinda > P.S. Guest guest
A few quick thoughts. Guest guest
From my experience with people getting off effexor, psychosis is VERY common. Agitation, aggression, suicidal and homocidal thoughts are classic. effexor is one of the worst to get off and can take years to recover from. Be careful around him... he is not in his right mind and can could be dangerous to himself and those around him. Not trying to scare you, but you need to hear this. The delusional state that he is in can make him do things that he would never have considered prior to effexor. > > Hi, all. Guest guest
I'm sorry for everyone involved. Thanks for the update. Jim My Update Hi, all. I first posted a month ago (message #26610) regarding my boyfriend's withdrawal from Effexor. It has now been two months since he quit taking it, and I'm sad to report that nothing has improved. I just saw him for the first time in six weeks. Physically? He's dropped at least 30 lbs I'd guess. I can't see any of his familiar facial expressions, mannerisms - nothing. His eyes are like ice. Mentally? When we first started talking, he believed we broke up 6- 7 months ago, when in reality he only left a few weeks back. He believes we only knew each other a couple of weeks, when it was months and months. He is repeating emotions from before he went on the Effexor, which means to him, he is still trying to work things out with his ex. He feels emotions for her that he had already gotten through well before he met me. He has demonized me, I think because admitting to a happy relationship with me doesn't fit into the delusional fantasy world he's created. When pressed to remember details, he gets very agitated. He flat out denies all of the beautiful things he said and did, and claims I'm lying even when I present things in his own handwriting. I can tell he has genuine memory loss in some places, and is deliberately avoiding memories in others. He now claims his time with me was the most miserable of his life, and his time with his ex was the happiest. Prior to his last dose, he, I and everyone around us knew the opposite was true. He attributes to me many of the horrible things his ex said/did. It's like he's switched us around in his head. He has no grasp of his behavior once the withdrawal started and no sense of remorse for any of the pain he's caused. I've never seen anything like this in my life. I can't believe the extreme shift in personality. Obviously the withdrawal has triggered some sort of psychotic disorder. I have no idea if he will ever " snap to, " and this is so much out of my hands. I just hope in posting this that others going through a similar experience will know they're not alone. I'll post again in a few weeks if something changes.

Guest guest
Donna, I totally commiserate with you here and feel your pain. I have had 3 epidurals for my back. Let me first say, what I experienced is I guess not normal but nevertheless it was my experience. I am a big wimp with needles. (I decided to labor unmedicated rather than have an epidural). I had mine done in the day surgery clinic by an anesthesiologist. You roll on your side (in your lovely hospital gown on a narrow gurney) and they clean you up real good, then if I remember right he gave me a bit of a local to the area. The needle goes in around the area of pain/inflammation. The first one my muscles were so tight he said it was like going through a board. And it felt like it too. The next one was a week or two later-it's been two years now and I guess I have blocked it out of my brain. They did the same thing. This one was easier and not as painful because some of the inflammation was down. Oh I did take something orally to ease my anxiety. I can't remember what it was but since I was a total nervous wreck they gave me something. I was supposed to go for a third one but when I went to go home after the second one I passed out and the decided this wasn't the best treatment for me. My mother-in-law has had many without any difficulties. For the last couple the doctor did it with the help of ultrasound to guide the needle to the right place. If you asked me then if it helped I would have said no, but looking back I don't have the same pain as I did before. There are days when I can't do much in the way of movement but I guess I recognize it now and load up on the meds and ice the back. Hope this works for you and gives you some relief. It is wicked pain. e ajaoky@... wrote: Well, I finally have some answers to my latest ailment. Two weeks ago I was completely unable to walk due to severe low back and leg pain on my right side. The pain I was having was severe, some of the worst I have EVER had to date. This was my 4th similar episode so I sought doctors help.I went for my MRI results and seems I have severe (I hate that word) degenerative disc disease and protruding lumbar discs. I am currently taking therapy and had a steroidal injection.I am being scheduled for an epidural block soon. Anyone have experience with these???? Hangin tight and hangin tough! Guest guest
Oh Donna, I feel your pain. I too have degenerative disc disease and 2 torn discs in my lower back. I have been offered epidurals for my back pain, but I am a whimp and have said no. I don't want anyone sticking a needle into my spine. I have vicodin, tramadol and muscle relaxers on had at all times for flare-ups, which usually come without warning. When I have have a flare-up it can last from a day to 2 weeks. I hope the epidural works well for you and you a much braver soul than I! Guest guest
Hey Donna, No personal experience on the surgical type procedures, but I'm hearing you on the back/leg pain. I, too, have had trouble walking after a 5 hour round trip to Sydney to see Bayly's Paed Rheumy last week. Sitting, lifting, even walking does it to me these days. I have bilateral pars defect, spondylolisthesis, and bulging discs, plus bonus right leg sciatica. My mother has had many back operations, including the epidural, and disc removal, and has had wonderful results. She currently can outwalk me, at her 71 years of age! I use Physio, Acupuncture, heat, water, and anti-inflammatories for my problems. Oh and rest, when the kids allow it! Praying for a good solution and speedy recovery for you my friend. {{HUGS}} Jo >Well, I finally have some answers to my latest ailment.
