Andy,

There is nothing anyone can say to you at this time to take your pain

and sadness away. It doesn't make sense to lose someone as young as

your son. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughs and

prayers during this most difficult time. I hope the good memories and

happy times you had with your son will comfort you in the coming days.

Love,

in NY

Thanks for your kind comments. I just don’t know what to

say about your position – I suppose the only plus point is that you have

some time to do things and go places etc etc. Our loss was just so sudden and

unexpected.

There is just no justice in the World...

Andy,

I am too a new member. My heart goes out to you over

the loss of your son, Chris. Losing a child is unbearable.

Unfortunately I will lose my daughter within the next year or so (she has

a progressive mitochondrial disease (www.caringbridge.org/visit/ellie)).

I am grieving over the loss already. Mito friends who have lost

their children all say to remember the good times, the smiles and the little

details of their person. Try not to dwell on the medical side of it.

My heart is broken for you...please let us know if there is

anything we can do for you, Andy. We're hear to listen and support.

God Bless,

kk

He died at 3am this morning. He

My good news would have been that

I have got an appointment for my Xylotomy in January, just 5 weeks away. God

Your thoughts and comments seem to be the general idea and that

is to remember the good times of which there were many – I will take this

advice onboard and hopefully it will help me through the bad times of which I

am sure there will be a few, not too many though I hope.

Dear Kris,

I am so sad to read this, I have two young children of my own and to

think of what you are going through just breaks my heart. My heart

truly goes out to you and to Andy also. I will keep you and your

beautiful daughter in my prayers.

Hey Izzie:

It sounds like your plate is very full right now. I'm glad for the most part

your back is better. The sitting for too long thing is hard. I can relate to

that one. As far as your hand goes that's a harder one. I'm not sure there is

much you can do for tendinitis...bummer.

Hoping your studying goes well and someone comes through with some books for

you. The insurance issue ticks me off. What are they waiting for?? You

certainly don't sound like you have great quality of life right now and if you

had insurance you could get some help and I can't understand what the problem

is. Keep hanging tough (to use Donna's motto). And you are absolutely right

about the spirituality that can get me through just about anything.

Beth & Hannah, 11, unspecified arthritis; asthma; gerd; migraines

Sending prayers & happy thoughts,

Beth :-)

my update

It's raining hard for san diego... lol.

My spine is much better than it was back in November however, it's proving

to be a consistent problem now in terms of added pain. My low back is having

major stiffness issues and if I sit the 'wrong' way, the pain will be quite

severe in my outter hips and low back. I guess that is the sciatica issue.

The MS contin masks over the pain so I can deal with it but when I have

breakthrough pain, that area is the first area to bother me. My mom was

helping me by lotioning my legs and when she would lift my right leg, the

back pain is quite significant and stiff. On top of that, my thumb ligament

palm area continues to be puffy and difficult. It's def. a ligament issue

and if i put pressure on it like press my thumb on something... the pain is

quite bad. The doctor last said it's tendonitis butthat doesnt mean much to

me in terms of what to do about it. I have all of my other pain but back,

neck and hands are proving to be the most annoying.

My medical situation is crazy. I have a lto of referals out there but

actually being able to get approvals to see the doctos is a whole different

story. I just dont have the energy to 'run' them down with repeated phone

calls. I haven't heard a word from SSI people and my lawyer said she will

write a letter to the judge asking for an update since the office hasn't

responded to phone calls. She mentioned the need to be cautious as we don't

want to 'anger the judge' so not sure what to make of all of that.

Right Now, I'm trying to get a hold of some books to prepare for the GRE

(Graduate record exam). I don't have the $$ to get them and I frequently see

people selling some study materials for GRE on Craigslist but so far, no one

has been willing to donate them. I guess I can understand that but I keep

trying because I just can't afford the prep programs and such. I hope that

depearment of rehabilitation will help me latter on but right now they are

not because they want me to try and find a job first to proove that i can't

work in it and need more education.. than they will look to help me with

graduate school. However if I go job hunting, I will screw up the SSI thing

which Department of Rehab also wanted me to apply for and thinks I should

get because they dont feel I can work under my current situation.

Contradiction much??? So I feel that well.. .at least on my part, I would

like to try and prepare for the GRE as best as I can on my own until I get

further assistance. If anyones knows anyone that has taken the GRE and has

study materials they might be willing to donate.. send them my way!!

The primary graduate program I'm looking at is the MSW or MSW/MPH which is

the Masters in Social Work and Masters in Public Health joint program both

at the very near by San Diego State University. The MSW program there is

well regarded and I don't know myu chances of acceptance there but it's my

primary goal as it's very close to me and an excellent program. My original

goal was to get my PhD in counseling psychology but due to my health and

many other things, I just don't feel this is a rational goal any longer.

This program doesn't put a major emphasis on the GRE but I need to do well

to have an overall excellent package to get accepted into one of these

programs. I still hven't settled on which one. Besides psychology, public

health is a major interest of mine as I took some classes as a undergrad and

absolutely loved it. Still, to do the joint program, it's a little longer in

time and more intense but might also make me happier than just the MSW alone

which Im still having some issues with. I want to be a psychotherapist but

ive never been a fan of social work because of politics. However, we have

those everywhere, right?

That's about all for now.. just trying to manage daily and pull myself up

out of this rather insane depression I have been fighting. I'm doing a lot

of work in behavioral activation and working on issues from childhood with a

therapist. It's a pain really but I feel that since I want to become a

therapist, I need all of the healing and closure that I can get in order to

be helpful/useful to others.

I'm working hard on my Spirtuality because I find much comfort and strength

there.

Izzie

It's a good idea...

I have gone to the library but the newer books are reference only and I

need to be able to write in them so I can work out the problems and stuff.

Know what I mean?

There are a few online sources but they aren't that great. I belong to one

but it's def. inaddequate. I belong to some applying to graduate school

communities on my Livejournal and several have asked and said the same thing

about the online places. I guess Kaplan and Princeton review have REALLY

cornered the market with their prep courses, books and such at extreme

prices but also manage to keep effective competition out of the market so I

assume this is why getting good prep is really quite difficult without them.

Thanks for the suggestions though. :)

Maybe you won't need surgery! I dislocated my kneecap in January, after

coming back from a tradeshow where I had walked miles and miles. I have

had a hip replacement on the other side, but had arthritis in the affected

knee.

The physical therapist came to my house every day for the first two weeks,

and then 3 days a week for 2 more weeks. I faithfully did my exercises and

it worked out fine - no surgery!! I still wear a strap on that knee but

otherwise no problem. I know how painful it is - sorry you have to go thru

this,

I wish you the best!

happening to me also. i had TKR on July 3rd and so far things are going

well. i am walking with a cane and my PT wants me to ditch that pretty

soon. i walk without it at home but need the support when i am out. I

still feel like i limp when I walk and i am trting to walk more

normally but I know with time it will happen. i wish you luck on your

recovery.

My knee cap is dislocating on the knee that was replaced on July 2..

They took xrays and saw the knee dislocated.

They wrapped my knee in ace bandages with a portable splint.

I was told not to bend it till I see the Dr hopefully on Wednesday.

I think it will need surgery. There has to be a reason why this is happening

Well that is about it till I see the Dr

Thank you so much for all your replies You all are so sweet

I was told not to bend it till I see the Dr hopefully on Wednesday.

I think it will need surgery. There has to be a reason why this is happening

Well that is about it till I see the Dr

Thank you so much for all your replies You all are so sweet

Have you had x-rays? One lady I knew had a similar thing and part of the

replacement had broken. What does your Dr. say?

Dede, I wish u tons n tons of luck at ur disability hearing. Bummed that the SCS

didn't work for you. I am curious though... How did u find out about the spinal

fluid? Is of because yours is cervical? What tests did they run to discover the

fluid leak?

I have been getting these horrible unexplained headaches. Every other day to

everyday. They r excruciating and no amount of Meds are helping them. It hurts

my neck n my entire head. Kinda like migraines, but worse...they don't go away.

Just looking at possibilities for cause.

Thanks, Deanna

Deanna, Your headaches sound a lot like mine. After enduring these for over 2

years, having to fight every step of the way to get someone to listen to me, it

finally came to light that spinal leaks were the culprit. I had a cervical

myelogram with 3-D imaging followed by a CT to evaluate for leaks. It was

extremely painful but the doctor told me that day that I had spinal leaks and a

pocket of fluid about the size of a golf ball. I know when there is a puncture

in the dura, it is natural to have a headache for a short time while it heals

up. However, not all of them heal up. I know after the myelogram was done, my

headaches were worse for a few days, then it went back to just being my " normal

horrific daily headache. " My leaks are being hidden from view by the leads.

That's the reason I have to have the leads removed to fix them. I've been

through so much with the surgeries, etc. that I feel like I can't take much more

and that's one reason I told him to

just leave everything out. I'm scared but I know The Lord will help me. My

headaches are better when I'm laying down, worse when I'm up. Sometimes my whole

head hurts even down the back of my neck. I take meds but they don't help. I'm

hoping that after I heal, they will get better. If you have these symptoms (and

I do know you can get headaches even if you've had the procedure in the lumbar

area), you may want to ask your doctor about it. If the symptoms aren't normal

and you know something's wrong, sometimes you have to keep after it until

someone listens. That's been my case. No one would listen. Eventually my stim

other doctors wanted to even see me. Sorry to be so long but it really has been

a long battle. Good luck!!

Deanna,

Would you mind if I asked how you discovered spinal leaks and tied

them in with your headaches? Currently, I have been experiencing

migraines for the past eight years that are debilitating.

Without getting into a lot of detail, I have had damage done to my

spine from a car accident. A question which I brought up to my

neurologist this previous week regarding the cause of these migraines

was from the spinal nerve damage, etc and he agrees with me.

Prior to my visit, I did some research and spoke with a neurosurgeon

regarding pain management and had discussed issues of where I was at

and what is going on now. I then received a very detailed response

from this qualified neurosurgeon to focus on areas that are most

likely the cause. That brings me to the question of what you had

mentioned above regarding spinal leaks. The damage I had gone through

involved a bulging disc, on one side and a fissured disc on another.

After an 11 month combination of pain management (various types of

steroid shots and physical therapy) I left pain management and saw two

neurosurgeons for back surgery as I had enough of the bull ****. One

surgeon had a higher ego than his intelligence however the second

surgeon actually understood what was going on and pinpointed the area

down to trigger point nerve damage.

Anyway, that is where I'm at at.

SueLynn,

It was actually Dede (I believe) who has the confirmed spinal fluid leak. I was

asking her how she discovered it because my headaches have been increasing in

quantity n intensity. I have a torn disc.....which the way I understand it leaks

everytime there is compression, causing pain because the vertebrae are hitting

or rubbing. No cushion left...boo hoo for me. When I read Dede's description it

was almost as if a light went off in my head....I still have to get a doctor to

check into it. I'm sure that's the hard part since I'm on workers comp n they

don't like when new problems arise n like to tell me it's not related to the

initial injury, I have pain going all the way up my back now n no one wants to

believe it's related to the lower back. It might cost them more money!!!

From your description it sounds like you are having spinal headaches

caused by spinal fluid leakage. I had a spinal headache after a

lumbar nerve block several years ago. The evening after the block I

got a really bad headache unlike any headache I'd every had before.

I was diagnosed with migraines when I was in first grade, so pain is

nothing new to me. Anyway the headache after the block was

unbearable if I moved. Standing up was out of the question. I was

16, a minor, at the time, so mom contacted my doctor to see what to

do. He said I had lossed a little spinal fluid during the procedure

and was experiencing a spinal headache. His solution was to take

excedrin and drink something with lots of caffeine in it. He said

the caffeine would help. I took excedrin and drunk several cans of

mountain dew. I was awake the rest of the day on a caffeine high,

but at least I felt better.

My uncle just happens to work for our local police department and he

stopped by to visit that day. He did some simple sobriety tests and

I failed them. I couldn't walk a straight line, touch my nose, focus

my eyes on anything, etc. So, if you try the excedrin and mountain

dew, driving would not be a good idea. Of course I never have

caffeine, so that could have been why my body reacted the way it did

to it. The spinal headache wasn't funny, but years later my family

is still joking about me being high on excedrin and mountain dew. LOL

I have had migraines for years, but never like this. I have used excedrin,

caffeine pills, n caffeinated drinks in the past.....however I tapered off

caffeine months ago to prepare my body to try to get pregnant again. I'm not

really to the point of actual trying just yet, but I hate the caffeine

withdrawal n don't want to be doing that again anytime soon, especially after

conception! It's been the 6 months the dr asked me to wait after the

miscarriage. Which I wasn't at all prepared for getting pregnant in the first

place. I am so ready to go back down that road again. Even my stepsons are

excited n wanting us to try again. Point being I'm very afraid to even try

caffeine......although I do need to figure out the onset n cause if the

headaches before getting pregnant. Ugh!

Hey there

Yes I know where Cleveland is. Good to know there is someone else pretty close

by!

I am about 40 miles west of Nashville so we are rural too. I know what you mean
