Guest guest
Hello Bee, Just thought I would chime in on this topic of weight gain. I have also gained a substantial amount of weight now 35 months into your diet. I have never been this weight in the past. I have not taken any birth control pills and I am 40 years old. Any explanations why? Thank you for your help.

Cheers, Bee
Guest guest
I have gained some weight too Bee since starting your diet, but then I always did have weight gain issues. I have regained (had already lost 3 1/2 stone before starting the diet) about a stone but it is staying fairly level at the moment. Ali. PS. The coffee enemas do seem to be helping the issues I have had in my upper left quadrant. I think the lymph was blocked and that seems to have shifted now, and I am fairly sure that I may have had/have pancreatitis too, especially as my insulin production over the last few years has dwindled to virtually nothing (possibly triggered by the Byetta I was given for my Diabetes over three years ago) and now my digestive enzyme capacity has been collapsing too (and quite possibly very compromised for a long time). I have managed to get some enzymes from the Doc and they do seem to be helping - they are coated to enable them to withstand the stomach acid apparently so that at least some can get through into the duodenum. They may not be the best thing to do but they are working!. It does not seem to be a lack of stomach acid, but the food was stuck in my stomach for hours (and getting very hot down there as a result!) possibly because it 'knew' there would not be enough enzymes to digest the food when it released it. Certainly things are starting to work better now, and I have a lot less gas. I also had my first 'dose' of acupuncture on Monday for my digestion and the lady picked up that I have a spleen deficiency and 'liver invading stomach' issues, which she is treating. Hopefully that will help too. Until I can get the digestive issues sorted out I can't absorb all this lovely nutrition properly that I am getting from your diet! Just curious, in your message above, you say that you have 'liver invading stomach' issues. What does that actually mean? Blessings,
Guest guest
Well , I am not all that clear on it either, but I do know that the stomach, pancreas and spleen are all linked. In Allopathic medicine the spleen is usually merely regarded as a blood-cleaning organ and a part of the immune system, but in chinese medicine it is viewed as an intrinsic and very important part of the digestion. Many years ago I was told by a lady who was a Naturopath and Acupuncturist that I had a weak spleen and obviously still do. The liver invading stomach thing seems to be down to a blockage of the energy somewhere and it can be triggered by a weak spleen. I suppose that if one organ isn't working as it should, other organs may have to try and compensate, but that in itself could cause problems. Certainly, having looked it up on the internet, many of the 'symptoms' that are listed are similar to what I am experiencing. I hope that between the acupuncture and the coffee enemas something will give and get the 'energy' flowing properly. Guest guest
Hi Bee. Well, as I have said in previous posts I have had this discomfort going on in my left side inside my ribs and soreness inside my ribs under my left arm and around my left back, which is where my spleen and pancreas is located. It is somewhat improved since I started the CEs. I have only had one course of acupuncture so far but although I can still feel some inflammation it is a bit better than it was. I certainly have had a lot of stuff passing across my back and down my right side since starting the CEs three weeks ago. Having been fatigued since I was 15 and having been dragging myself around all my adult life, there obviously has been something not working right for a long time. When I was treated years ago with acupuncture for the weak spleen (and put on a low-carb diet long before it was 'fashionable'), I did feel a lot better and had a lot more energy. I am that much older now and it's not perhaps going to be quite so simple to fix! Many on your diet report improved energy levels within a fairly short time of starting the diet, but I would not say that my energy has improved all that much even after 9 months, but as I said before, until I can get my digestion working - and balanced properly - I won't be able to absorb nutrition as well, or as quickly as others might. The digestive enzymes do seem to be helping (and I have at least been able to get some better sleep thank goodness) so it does seem that either the pancreas has been/is blocked or like my body's ability to produce insulin has diminished, so has it's ability to produce enzymes too, especially if my pancreas has been inflamed for quite some time. That is because such enzymes are only active in an alkaline environment, so that's why your pancreas first pours lots of baking soda on the contents emptying out of the stomach before it produces any kind of digestive enzymes. If there is enough HCl and fluid in those contents it triggers the pancreas to do its job like it should. So if you think it helps you I believe it is a placebo effect. If you have pancreas problems you would have pain in it. The pancreas can tend to be more to your left side, and also pain radiates itself from that general area to other areas like the back. So maybe you do have pancreas problems and not a problem with your spleen. If your pancreas cannot produce insulin like it should you'd be Diabetic Type 1, which results from the body's failure to produce insulin. In that case your blood sugar would go high, and if there isn't enough insulin it would stay dangerously high. So have you checked your blood sugar levels, or ever been Diabetic? Ali, I think you are going off into so many different directions here, so it would be best if you got a " proper diagnosis " of your health issues by a medical doctor. He could confirm whether you have spleen, stomach or pancreas problems (all in the same general area), so you know better what is happening. After you get a proper diagnosis let me know what it was. Guest guest
Hi Bee. I am effectively type 1 - or what is now referred to as type 1.5 or LADA. That is latent type 1, where the pancreas gradually loses the ability to produce insulin. I have been a diagnosed diabetic for 14 years - originally diagnosed as a type 2 - originally tablet treated but as no longer became effective on its own, I was put on insulin 7 years ago. As the Byetta I was put on temporarily did not work on me to reduce my sugar levels, that is a good indicator that my pancreas is producing little, if any, insulin of it's own. The Byetta will only reduce sugar levels if insulin is present. I suspect the Byetta may have triggered, or exacerbated the pancreatic issues. I am very Diabetes aware - My Mum was type 1 so I grew up with it. The digestive enzymes I have been given are enteric coated so at least some gets through into the duodenum. I was not convinced they would make any difference - and I am too skeptical to be caught by any 'placebo' effect, but somehow they seem to be helping. At the very least, because my digestion is settling down some, I am able to get more and better sleep, and they have to be worth it just for that if nothing else! I don't know if my spleen is involved or not - or maybe just a bit sore from being squashed by my pancreas, but the pain and discomfort I have been getting has been centred around my left side and back as you mentioned, and as I have said several times on here. Between the lack of insulin and the lack of digestive enzymes something has not been right. At the end of the day if my pancreas is damaged and inflamed then it would be no surprise if it is not producing the stuff it is supposed to provide. The HCL didn't help, that just made my stomach even hotter than it was already getting - and not good when it was stuck in there all night long! At least with the enzymes it is emptying after a more normal time - and that is in no way controlled by any placebo! I have been faithfully stuck to your diet for the last 9 months and if nothing else I would have at least expected my digestion to have started to sort itself out, but the pancreatic issue was not getting any better. It's no good flogging a dead horse! Whether, now there has been a lot of clearing out going on down there, there will be any healing in my pancreas waits to be seen. I have tried to get a diagnosis, but the Medical Profession here is absolutely useless, and I cannot afford to go privately. When I visited my Doctor the other day he asked why I hadn't had the smear test. I said that there was no point - that even if there was anything dodgy I wouldn't have any Medical Treatment anyway - I have seen too many people killed by it! Then a a few minutes later I asked him if I could be checked for Pancreatitis or Pancreatic Cancer, and he rather snottily said, why? Even if you had it you wouldn't have any treatment! I said it would be nice to know what I have been battling for the last three years! Brick wall. But he did give me the enzymes, so that was something. It is frustrating not knowing what this is, and maybe if I shouted loud enough it would help, but I am sick of the Medical Profession and all the damage they have done to me over the years.
