Hi ,

I don't have much experience with this situation, but could you cook everything

before you leave and then keep it iced in a cooler to just eat cold leftovers?

It wouldn't be ideal (maybe not as tasty), but then you wouldn't have to waste

your money on bad " food. "

Subject: [ ] Eats on road trip suggestions?

I'll do a search in the archives but I'm afraid my situation is " unique " .

I'm going out of town Friday (leaving the house about 10am) and will get back

Sunday about noon.

I'll be traveling on a school bus (trip will be about 4-5 hrs) with about 46

high schoolers and we will be staying two nights in a school class room; I

will not have any free time and all travel is together on the bus.

I want to travel light, will not have refrigeration (or heat, as in hot

water) available (other than tap water; uck). The last " home " meal I will

have will be bfast on Friday. We will stop at a convenience store around 1

and then be taken to fast food restaurants for dinner, between 7 & 8. We

are " on our own " for bfast and lunch on Saturday (the last school we were at

had a cafeteria but all their food was carb-heavy and low-fat, high sugar).

Then back to the same restaurants as the night before for dinner Saturday

night. We'll be up at 430 and on the road by 6 am, stopping at the same

convience store as on the way down mid-morning (there will be no time for me

to " make " anything to eat Sunday morning). Last time we did this, I did eat

bfast at the restaurant but it cost $9-10 to get some eggs and bacon and

I've got two kids that I've got to pay for as well so I'd prefer not to have

to pay out anything (esp when it's just nasty stuff anyway!).

I'm trying to figure out how to be as ON program as possible during this

time.

I've made some jerky, will cook up some chicken thighs, have cooked up some

skinless gyoza (ground pork with Oriental seasonings and shredded cabbage).

I was planning on taking the ingredients for Bee's Egg drink for Saturday

morning, but it's really inconvenient as I'm a chaperone and need to be

where the kids are. Someone posted a re.cipe for the egg muffins on the

rec.ipe site and I'm going to consider those. I'm going to take a bit of

raw veggies, but I'm learning raw veggies are not nice to my insides. Will

be no way to cook veggies or reheat pre-cooked veggies. I'm taking a cube

of butter and am considering mixing it with coconut oil just to get some

coconut oil in my system. I'm not going to take bone broth as then I'd have

to be hauling around the thermos (read: all stuff loaded on to trailer and

unloaded by kids; then we have to take all of our own stuff from where the

bus parks to the school and to our room. Last time we stayed in a 2nd story

room! Duffle bag, backpack, air mattress, pillow, sleeping bag, book bag!!!

And hurry up about it!!!)

Like I said, I'm trying to figure out how to travel light (will take a small

ice chest; not sure how I will refresh the ice in a high school...) and stay

ON pgm. Getting enough fat/coconut oil is going to be a challenge...

Thanks for your ideas!

Hi ,

This might be tough since you need food for you and 2 kids. Can you take a

bigger ice chest? A good quality ice chest will keep ice frozen for over 3 full

days, so no worry of food spoiling and you won't have to worry about buying

anything on the road. Make sure your ice chest is rated to keep ice frozen for

at least 3 days before you try it.

I would bring pre-cooked meats, butter, and soft-boiled eggs. No veggies since

they aren't necessary and they just take up space in the cooler.

Pre-measure the coconut oil and carry it in a small container. Just eat it by

the spoonful with meals since you can't cook. Same thing with the butter, just

cut off a chunk and eat it plain. You can easily get enough fat as long as you

can handle eating those things plain.

Have fun!

Josh

Oops. I'm still letting the kids eat " as they want " so they're on their own.

It's just MY food I'm bringing (tho I'll share my bacon with them! And am

bringing cheese sticks for the kids.)

Actually, this is an interesting subject!! If we're getting healthier on Bee's

program, are we less susceptible to " food spoilage " or do we need to be just as

concerned?

Love it! I did cut up some celery. I was reading today how we DO " get hungry "

when we think about eating... And I'll be around many eating kids (school will

have vending machines, for instance) so I wanted something " just in case " ...

Great ideas, Josh. I just made up 's " French toast " which utilizes fat,

nutritional yeast and eggs and it is good; so I'll make another for this

weekend. That way, I won't have to bring my Magic Bullet or raw eggs to make my

egg drink.

Thanks to you, too, Marti for your ideas!

Hi ,

You might also want to pack some cans of tuna packed in olive oil. See Bee's

Candida Food List for the kind she recommends.
