Guest guest
Yes, I've tried it and it does work. I can lose 7 pounds per week, IF I use 3 tbsp. of VCO per day BUT then I can't sleep so....... Bonnie Coconut Oil Thinking about trying Coconut oil for weight lost. I read about it in Trudeau book. Has anyone tried it?
Guest guest
I've heard that too. But I think you still have to make others appropriate additions and/or changes. I think the reason why it might help with weight loss is because the medium-chain fatty acids get immediately processed by the liver into ENERGY, not stored as FAT, like trans fats do, because the body doesn't know how to properly process them. You should definitely give it a try. It can't hurt and can only help benefit you in other ways besides weight loss. I've been using VCO since January, and my weight has come down a little and is staying down. Now, I dropped about 20 lbs in January, but that was because of a major health issue I had back then. And the majority of that was water weight. I had been retaining a lot of fluids prior to that. But after coming home, my weight came down another 5 lbs, and it's been staying there, ever since. It seems to be gradually creeping downward. I have been checking and tracking it everyday. I know full-well how much weight can fluctuate from day to day, and it's interesting to see the differences based on what I ate or drank the day before. But when you look at the numbers overall, there does seem to be an overall downward trend. I recently bought a bottle of Nutiva brand at Whole Foods market, and I like it a lot better than the Jungle brand I was buying. It has a smoother, creamier texture to it. And it definitely tastes better in my coffee, which I also add chocolate and now raw milk to. Yum! VCO does help give you some extra energy, and that helps with weight loss. I don't feel so " drugged-out " and tired like I used to. That right there is a major improvement. And VCO tastes great on whole wheat toast. And sometimes I add some cinnamon to it, too. Yummy. So absolutely get some and give it a try. It can only help. And be sure to use only real butter, and throw out any magarines and other trans fats. Your body will thank you for it. I'm dying to get Trudeau's book, too. I already know some of what's in there, but I'm eager to read the rest. Oh, and now he's finally released his weight loss book, I saw on an infomercial the other night. So now I'll have to " chase " after that book on eBay, too. Guest guest
Hi ! Do you mean virgin coconut oil (VCO) or ordinary edible (RBD) coconut oil ? For VCO, a good quality stuff can be tested: take 1-2 teaspoon full of it (liquid or soild, depending on room temperature), if you fell a " catch throat " ( a feeling something not pleasant), the VCO contains excessive moisture than ideal (less than 0.02%), causing rancidity. Another quality index is a mild scent and taste of coconut oil, indicating the coconut oil is natural and derived from mature fresh coconut meat or kernel, usually cold-pressed and not expeller pressed. Please note that the refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD) coconut oil clear almost colorless oil and tasteless and generally safe cooking oil and other food applications. While, the natural VCO form of coconut oil, provided it's of good quality is considered best for ingestion (direct or mixed with other food) for health and nutrition, and body-skin/hair care for humans, as well as small animal-pets (like dogs, cats), among many others. Cost-wise, you have to be ready to pay more for VCO because the production cost is high and usually not mass-produced but by mostly manual (hygenic process), to keep the natural properties of the coconut oil. Guest guest
You should go ahead and use it now that you have it, just know that cheap is not always best. Read the label, if it smells like Coconut and tastes like Coconut, it should be good. Bonnie Coconut Oil I purchased a jar of coconut oil from Walmart and I paid less then three dollars for it. Guest guest
I agree with the checklist given by Sev re virgin coconut oil and RBD coconut oil (for cooking and much cheaper but still the safest). Not advisable though to ingest as is or even use on skin. Nutrients have been lost but still, most helathy for cooking. (Tip: use cooking oil to remove sticky tape left-over marks) I also like to let everyone know our 9-month old GermanShepherd is on VCO 3 tbsp a day since he was 4 months old and VCO as hair conditioner every 10 -15 days against fleas. He's perfect! He is not spared of fleas because of VCO though but they are kept at bay resulting to either death or inability to reproduce quickly. The VCO I use is Nature's Blessings Organic VCO. It's got a moisture content reading of .01 to .03% at its best. Cheers, Rose --------------------------------- Get your own web address. Have a HUGE year through Small Business. Guest guest
someone gave me some coconut oil, well at least she said it was oil. But it was a white solid. Does it come in the oil/liquid form?
Guest guest
Hi Casey, No, coconut oil doesn't have to be cooked. You can eat it directly off the spoon if you wish, just be sure to eat it at the same time you are having a full meal. You don't need to keep it in the fridge if you don't want to. It keeps at room temperature and would be easier to get out of the jar since it goes liquid at room temperature. Group Moderator > > Just reading a few post. Does coconut oil have to be cooked? Guest guest
Hi , Since I have to consume 5.5 tablespoon of coconut oil each day, I tend to eat it throughout the day. Meaning, sometimes I eat it alone without a meal. Is this ok or should I only eat it during a full meal? Thanks, Rob > > > > Just reading a few post. Does coconut oil have to be cooked? Is this ok or should I only eat it during a full meal? +++Hi Rob, That's okay once in awhile, or to curb cravings, but it is better to split up 5.5 tablespoons between 3 meals per day since it works with the other nutrients, particularly protein. Guest guest
Hi, I am fairly new to the group and thought I'd jump in on this - I hope it's OK. I am a licensed esthetician, a skin care specialist. Coconut Oil is the only moisturizer I use for myself and I use it on my clients, even acne clients, as well. I apply to damp skin and the skin just soaks it up, it doesn't leave your skin greasy or clog pores. You do not need a whole lot. If you put too much on then you might have some that doesn't absorb - just blot if off. Your skin will be SO soft and healthy. K
Guest guest
> > Hi Bee! >  > You use coconut oil on your skin, including face, like regular moisturizer? The coconut oil you eat? Is that not greasy and make your clothes greasy? > Sorry, I know you have just been asked this but I find this very interesting!! I would do that because I have dry skin but I am worried about it clogging my pours and causing acne... but I guess it wouldn't be that much different from regular moisturizer? I do use Coconut body butter from the Body Shop that has coconut oil in it... but it is a creme. Is this just as good? I also love smelling like coconut! +++Hi Sharona. Yes I use the same unrefined coconut oil that I eat as a moisturizer, but a little bit goes a long way, so don't use very much. If there's too much on my face I wipe it with a tissue before applying makeup. I also rub it through my hair and apply it to all of my skin. Since it is a natural oil it easily washes out of clothes and fabrics. Coconut oil doesn't clog up the pores at all. In fact it helps your skin make more of its natural oils. The good oils and fats I recommend don't cause acne. Acne is caused by toxins coming out through the skin, just like any other skin abnormalities, i.e. eczema, pimples, warts, moles, skin tags, aging spots, psoriasis, ring worm, abcesses, and on and on the list goes. Coconut butter from the Body Shop isn't good to use since it wouldn't contain " unrefined " coconut oil and it contains other ingredients that aren't healthy. Guest guest
I use either Spectrum Unrefined Organic CO or, mr preferred, Jungle Products Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Organic CO for both skin and food. I keep one jar in the bathroom and the other in the kitchen. I get them at Whole Foods. The Jungle Products CO tastes so good I can eat it off the spoon as it. Guest guest
I use it as a deodorant too. I just rub a little pea sized amount of oil on to the backs of my hands and rub it under my arms - that way, it moisturizes my hands and puts a film of oil under my arms. Within a minute or two it has soaked in and I have never found that it stains my clothing. If any did get on there it washes out when laundered anyway. I find that it lasts all day and I very rarely need to reapply it. As I have been detoxing I have had very smelly armpits but the coconut oil deals with them without any problem at all. Ali. Guest guest
> > What CO brand do you use for the skin? +++Hi Betty, Any coconut oil brand that fulfills these requirements is what you use on your skin, for cooking and take internally: " The first thing to look for is a Virgin coconut oil. I recommend virgin coconut oil over non-virgin or RBD oil. RBD stands for refined, bleached, and deodorized [also must be unhyrogenated]. The less processing a food undergoes the higher the nutrient content and the healthier it is. Processing removes and destroys nutrients. Virgin coconut oil is made from fresh coconut without high heat or chemicals. Guest guest
My chin was pretty clear and now it is breaking out so I guess that is more toxins. Coconut oil made me break out really bad for 3 days so I hope that the salt has the same short reaction. Thanks again +++Hi Celeste, You cannot necessarily avoid breakouts since they are because of toxins coming out, so that's a good thing! You don't need to slowly increase your ocean sea salt. I suggest you measure out 1.5 teaspoons in a little container the morning, and ensure you split up taking it between 3 meals per day. Here's the way you can take it: -added to foods while they are cooking -sprinkled on foods after they are cooked -added to water you drink during the day and with your meals -taken directly in your mouth under your tongue All the best, Bee
