Guest guest
Suzanne, Best thing to do would be to gather the assessment data and get some help looking at it. The instructions for performing the assessment are built in to the templates on Infiniti. The increasing sensitivity to pain could be related to patterns that are consistent with ADD, or it could be something completely different. Guest guest
Suzanne, Just wanted to mention that the first major "symptom" relief I started to experience from the TLC assessment was relaxation in my (normally very tense) spine. I rant about eye focus improvement so I'll only mention that because my eyes don't see "level" together. The "feeling" is like someone grabbing my head in a headlock, and twisting my neck to the side, whenever the eyes attempt to focus together. The "back" pain started with eye tension. This explains why I prefer to exercise with my eyes closed. I have inherited arthritis from my Mom. I've had a few instances now where "something popped" in my back and it was very painful for a long time and I still feel it in several places decades later. At least I know when it is going to rain! So, like Pete said, do those TLC trainings! -- A Do Something Useful back pain> >
Guest guest
Suzanne, I once trained another psychologist who was injured in a motor vehicle accident and had severe back pain two years after the event. It prevented her from being able to drive very far. The back pain was eliminated within a very small number of sessions using the Othmer's interhemispheric method of T3-T4 single channel training. We were rewarding 7-10 Hz and, from memory, inhibiting 2-7 Hz and 22-30 Hz, although I know that alpha inhibits are often used for pain relief. Guest guest
Mark, What you say about T3-T4 is very interesting because I just did the TLC assessemnt with him yesterday and only T3-T4 and Fz-Oz show a problem. Would somebody help me to better understand the reasons we would choose to use linked ear, sequential or 2 channels montages. Guest guest
I have had back pain in the midback as a result first of IBS -- the nerves apparently get irritated along with the bowel and pain refers to the back. When I was struggling to get food down when my LES was clamped shut, I would get sore midback and diaphram muscles as the result of the manuevers I used to force food down. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi I suffer very badly from back pain due to my achalasia. I've had A for two and a half years now and the spasms in my back started at the same time as my symptoms of A started. I had a myotomy in June 2005 but the back pain is still very much there. Lots of us here get these "spasms". I think they occur when our LES gets too tight or spasms itself and we feel the pain in our backs. I also feel the pain in my chest and even in my jaw and the back of my throat. Some say that a low dose antidepressant such as amitryptiline works for them. I took this for a year and a half and then gave them up as they weren't making any difference. But they work for some so maybe you could ask your doc and give them a go. I've noticed a pattern with my spasms. I always get them in the evening and at night, never in the mornings. When I do get them they occur daily. each lasting around 20 mins to an hour and this pattern will continue for usually 2 weeks. Then I'll be spasm free for another couple of weeks and so on it goes. If I've had a particularly bad attack I will find it more difficult and sometimes painful to swallow foods for the next day. I spoke to my surgeon about these pains and he told me that he's noticed it in a lot of his patients. He reccomended I try taking nifedipine sublingually. These tablets are used for patients with high blood pressure and they cause the muscles to relax. Be warned that they can lower your blood pressure and so you may feel dizzy after taking them. I always get a fantastic headache after taking one but they often work for very bad spasms. I don't think you can get them as a sublingual tablet. I get them in liquid capsule form and bite one open when I need it. The other thing my GP prescribed is a nitrolingual pump spray. This is used to relieve the symptoms of angina but again it sometimes helps when the pain is felt in the chest. My best friend however is a hot water bottle and lots of deep breathing exercises to help me relax. When our backs spasm and the pain is bad it is natural for us to stress and tense our muscles. Forcing ourselves to relax can often help to ease the pain. Hope this helps. Drop me a line anytime. Charmaine x Try the all-new . Guest guest
Suzan, It's interesting that we are both facing oesophagectomy and we both get back pain. However, I am convinced mine is because I now sleep with five pillows at night. This is great for stopping any possible inhalation as I am a little paranoid about damaging my lungs and my body has now learnt not to slide down the pillows and end up flat in the bed (that used to happen...irritating). Anyway, a well behaved body now stays in place but five pillows gives me awful posture at night. So I think my back pain is totally due to that. But happy to reexamine this based on what others say. Do you also sleep uprightish at night? STEVE Back Pain Hi Group, Does anyone in this group suffer with chronic mid back pain as a result of their achalasia? If so, please describe your symptoms. I’d appreciate it. I’ve been suffering with mid back pain for years and it does not seem to be muscular. The thoracic surgeon with whom I consulted regarding esophagectomy, said that none of her patients with severe achalashia had ever complained about chronic back pain, but she cannot rule it out. She said it may be possible. I look forward to hearing back. Z.

My experiance with chiropractic was long , expensive and ineffective. [ Hickman] Good luck Matt back pain Hi everyone, I am going to physical therapy for neck pain. But more and more my low back pain is getting worse. Sitting anywhere especially on the couch in front of TV is a chore because of the pain. I'm thinking of chiropractic and will ask the spine surgeon on Friday. However, I'm wondering about the group's experience has been. Does physical therapy give more long range improvement than chiropractic? I know I have disc degeneration in my low back (it's extreme in my neck) but I've never hurt my back like I did my neck and I thought my back was pretty strong, but I guess not. Guest guest
Hi , I learn the exercises from physical therapy too. BUt my experience has been that without the electrical stim afterwards I'm in pain. IL'm thinking though that I should ice down everytime I do these exercises. it might help. I've decided to do physical therapy for 6 weeks on my back. I hope it works. I forgot ot ask the spine doctor about chiropractic. Even though it was in my notes. Guest guest
Hey Rochelle, Ice always helps me on my lower back. I have been doing PT for about 3-4 weeks. Yesturday I had the enntire afternood symptom free! The pain came back after that. I haven't felt that good since November 05'! I have a good boss and he is letting me take it easy at work. PT wants me to do the excercises every hour but I am only able to get down on the floor and stretch about 5 times a day. I'm going to hang in there with the excersises for a while longer. After I get a little stronger I'm going to have to get in better shape. The PT I go to has an after care wellness program for $35 a month, I can go in and work with an assistant to focus on generl health excersises. I think I will do it. I don't think my back has another recovery in it. Regards Matt back pain > > > Hi everyone, > I am going to physical therapy for neck pain. But more and more my > low back pain is getting worse. Who knows what the next part of me will start hurting. Although I'm predicting my knees since they've been taking over for my back. This is why I'm going into PT early. If my knees go out on me. Guest guest
Hi Rochelle, I've had both knees replaced, I'm only 52, but they went out before my back and neck did. Before i had one of my knees replaced, I had injections of Synvisc. It really helped for a long period of time. I was in a job that was physically demanding, so after the Synvisc came an Arthroscopy, which gave me some added pain-free time- about a year if I remember correctly. Then it was time for a replacement. I had them replaced about 4 years apart, and in that time frame, tecnology really changed. Healing time was less, it was less invasive, and if you go to PT right away after surgery, it's remarkable how soon you'll feel better. I just wanted to let you know about options before replacements. I was also very heavy at the time, my dr. kept telling me I would feel better if i lost weight. By the time i did, my knees were already blown. Even though I had a very physical job, my dr. insisted I get regular exercise, even just walking. My pain basically started with arthritis, even with the knee replacements, I'm not pain-free in my knees because of the arthritis. I don't know if any of this info helps- just thought I would tell you my side of the knee problems. It is fixable. Guest guest
Hey again, My diagnosis is pinching of the sciatic nerve with pain shooting down my right leg. The position is commonly know as " road kill " . I lay on my stomach on the floor, legs pointing straight down. I lift my right knee out and forward as far as I can. If you look at me from behind, I look like a frog that just got run over. ha ha This position is attempting to move the disk back into alignment with the vertebra and thus off the nerve. I do that for about 5 minutes. With my leg still out to the side and my left one straight back, I lift up on my elbows. This further moves the disk. I do this one for about 5 minutes. Finally, in the same position, pelvise on the floor, I do about 10 pushups. This moves the disk even further. it took me 3 or 4 weeks to get to this point of doing the pushups. While in the first position, I have no symptoms. I feel a little tingle in my right toes during the " up on the elbows " and " pushups " positions. PT said keep doing the exercises unless there is pain. I also lay on my back, raise my knees up and keep them together. I sway my knees from left to right about 40 times. That really loosens all the tightness in my lower back. I am very hopeful now. I am sitting here on the computer with no symptoms! I'll go to church tomorrow and the walking around will be painful. I'm going to keep at it. Again, this may be my last chance on recovery as far as my back goes. I have two young boys, 3 yrs and 5 months. I want to be able to coach their sports when they get old enough. That won't happen in the shape I am in now. I am very motivated. I am not advocating that you do these exercises before you meet with your PT or dr. Like I said before, the long term fix for me is to learn the exercises and continue to do them even after the symptoms are gone. I am pretty lazy about exercise. Regards Matt -Hi again Matt, I was just wondering about those exercises your PT wants you to do every hour. Could you briefly describe them so I could ask my PT? Guest guest
Thanks Matt for the vivid descriptions. I don't have sciatic leg pain, just a generalized lower back pain especially when I sit. I will ask my PT about these exercises. The push up with pelvis on the floor is an exercise a friend of mine also recommended. The one on your back sounds interesting and will definitely see what the PT says. Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry your not feeling well. I have blown, bulging, and desiccated discs in my low back. Nerve pain from low back injuries runs up and down the back and legs, in my experience. You might have strained a ligament/tendon. I recommend just resting your back for a while until the pain is completely gone. Alternating ice/heat helps with pain and inflammation. Instead of bending over, try just squatting to reach things on the floor. Limit raising your arms up to reach as they use the core muscles which also use the back muscles. If the pain does not go away after a week, see your doctor. I didn't and now I have to live with the pain daily. I hope your feeling better soon. Take care. Guest guest
Hi , good to hear from you, not so great that you hurt your back. Ouch! I've always done gentle stretches when my back is sore and it has helped, I've never had to go to the Dr. about it. I did see the Chiropractor once when I fell off a chair. After a couple of days doing the back exercises I'm usually back to normal. Make sure you only go as far as you comfortably can and breathe into the sore spots; imagine that your sending your breath to the sore/tight area while stretching. I know that sounds weird, but it works. Good luck, Kerry wrote: I seem to have hurt my back playing with my bf the other day and I got to thinking. How do you tell whether the pain is the type to rest or just to take it easy or if it needs to be stretched and worked through. But how do I tell if a good stretch will fix things or if I should just rest for a few days? Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions on the subject.
