Dear Raschelle, First off forgive me everyone for responding to what's going to seem like really old posts. I get the digest versions and I haven't checked email for 4 days. The great thing is that usually I don't have the time to leisurely read through them all or take time to post detailed messages. I'm on vacation right now and I can do that! Yeah. Hang in there Raschelle. I am an example of someone who was very discouraged in the beginning and skeptical. Still at eight or 10 weeks I had only seen very limited results. I " fell off the wagon " at 10 weeks but was determined to try again. I've been doing BFL faithfully now for 9 weeks, second time around, and at the 4th week second time around I started seeing changes. These days I can't stop looking at my body noticing the changes. Now my motivation to keep going is to keep seeing results or at least not to lose what I've done so far. I will post pictures in a few weeks if I can figure out how to do so. By the way, I'm in Colorado Springs this week and I seem to remember someone on this list from here. Yucky weather all week but I'm just happy to have quiet, relaxing time to myself. I still hadn't lost a pound at 5 weeks and I was still snug in my size 12s. So I can understand the frustration. But as I said, I'm finally seeing results. Yesterday I put on some size 8 jeans that looked good. Amazing to me. It was very hard for me to keep going to see these results but I am glad that I did. Guest guest
Ok, bear with me. When got his official AS diagnosis a month ago I had been concerned that his therapist was going to try and mess with the diagnosis because he did not think could have AS. His psychiatrist, school guidance councelor and all testing say the opposite. He got tied up and did not get the chance to speak to the psychiatrist and interfere with the diagnosis. The psychiatrist recomended that he change to a therapist who specializes in working with AS kids and so I made the phone call and met with the new therapist for an intake last week. I also left a message for the old therapist that I wasnted to update him and what we were going to be doing. Well, he JUST called me backed. He laughed at the AS diagnosis and said he "doesn't see that at all" I started getting defensive and angry. I said "if it is so off base than why am I able to relate to every book and every AS parent I talk to??" and why, when my son read the first chapter of "AS the universe and everything" was his first comment "I have a clone"??? I am so frustrated I am shaking! This guy has NOT read any of his history and or testing, none of the teacher rating scales, NOTHING!! He is basing his opinion SOLEY on his one hour every other week with him. NOT how he interacts outside of the therapists office AT ALL! He also wants to do a visit to wrap things up with him which I can understand and innitially agreed with.....but then he wants to stop in once a month to talk for a 1/2 hour FOR FREE! to "maintain friendship" now, I KNOW this man is under the impression that my son "needs him" or "relies on him" in some way when in fact I KNOW my son could care less! The therapist also wants me to have the other lady call him (new therapist) and ahhhh...NO I DON'T THINK SO! -Charlotte
Guest guest
Hi Charlotte, That is frustrating but you don't have to see this man again, nor do you have to give him any details of the new therapist (nor his to her). You know has now got the right dx and you need to progress from here. One day you'll be able to laugh about this.

Guest guest
Dear Charlotte, I can only sympathise with you. I know exactly what your going through, because i'm having the same problem with my son BJ, who was dx with mild ASand semantic pragmatic disorder 12 months ago. His new speech therapist said theres nothing wrong with himwhich is a joke. Because like yourself i can relate to all the people on this site, and the school his at are now beginning to realise there is a prob. I paid privately to get the diagnosis done by a paed who specialises in autism. Hang in there, it will be a long hard battle, even though we shouldnt have to fight to get what our children need to cope with their life. Guest guest
No he doesn't (although he seems to think he does!) I am no longer worried about him communicating with the new therapist though because his lack of knowledge will be apparent in the conversation. What bothers me most is #1 the fact that he actually laughed out loud ! and #2 the fact that he is basing his opinion solely on his personal time with him disregarding all past present reports and testing!! That's just unethical! Re: Frustrated I would definately stay away from that therapist! He sounds like he doesn't know a thing about AS!!! Guest guest
Thanks Netty, Would you believe he actually has me sitting here doubting myself?? UG! Drives me batty when this happens! As he sits in the other room screaming at his 4 year old sister over nothing so loud that my second floor tenants probably think I am beating him. I can't wait to get the new eval done on May 3rd although I really wish it were sooner. The school is in agreement and so is the psychiatrist so I don't know why I am doubting myself, it's only this one guy that barely knows him who is under the impression he knows better than mom, all other doctors and teachers over the past 8 years! Still I sit here wondering why he laughed at me. -Charlotte Re: Frustrated>Date: Tue, 15 Mar 2005 12:29:41 -0800 (PST)>>I would definately stay away from that therapist! Guest guest
Dear Charlotte, I can relate to the doubting myself part, i used to do it alot at one time, and think it was my fault, even though i knew deep down BJ wasn't quite normal when he was a baby. Mothers intuition i suppose. But i still do on occassions doubt myself aswell as the drs etc. BJ's new speech therapist only seen him for an hour and she said there's nothing wrong with him. lol. You get to the point when you feel as though you've come in a full circle and starting again. I actually had a good cry yest morn, because BJ has been so naughty and defiant, i had to get his sisters 2 stay away from him, just in case he decided to lash out again. It's turned out that this wk his only friend at school as gone away for a week with alot of the class, but BJ refused to go. So i assume it was the change for him, because his teacher has noticed a difference in him but instead of being naughty etc, he gone completely in himself at school. So obviously he needs to get his anger out somewhere and it's at home. Just ignore the neighbours if they start to moan, and keep fighting, it's the only way you'll get through it. But you'll do it, we all do it ,because it's our kids. Guest guest
Hi Charlotte - I would be more worried that he wants to maintain contact with for free sessions - this sets my alarm bells off I'm sorry. It's unethical and no therapist in his right mind would put himself in that situation. Eeek. Maybe you can cancel the housecall too? Regards, Donna. -Charlotte
Guest guest
That was my reaction to your post too Charlotte. That is bizzarre, as a social worker I can tell you that when a client is terminating the relationship; we terminate it. First and foremost for THEIR benefit. Clear boundaries, clear break. Second, he used the word, "keep the friendship."???? It should be a professional relationship one in which he was being used as a tool to effect change in your son's live. While a therapest may have a fondness for a client they never classify a relationship as a friendship as the client came into the relationship with needs for a professional to meet. I would run like hell! Janedlp <leap@...> wrote: Hi Charlotte - I would be more worried that he wants to maintain contact with for free sessions - this sets my alarm bells off I'm sorry. It's unethical and no therapist in his right mind would put himself in that situation. Eeek. Maybe you can cancel the housecall too? Regards, Donna. Guest guest
lol Jane, I totally agree, it sent up tons of red flags for me. Both my mother and stepmother are psychologists so I also bounced it off them feeling that it was bizarre and both agreed that it was the strangest thing they'd ever heard. I will do the final visit this Wednesday so can say goodbye because I believe that closure is important. BUT I will be letting this guy know ahead of time that this is it, and I will be in there for the final meeting. The "maintain the friendship" comment was totally ODD!! I was like "ah, he is your CLIENT NOT your friend!!" I think the therapist has attachment issues lol! -Charlotte Re: Frustrated I would definately stay away from that therapist! Guest guest
LB - take your frustrated energy and hand out some fliers LOL!! http://www.unlockingautism.org/grassrootsprcampaign2.asp Kidding aside, there is alot we can do as parents. Most of the people who don't have affected family members are completely aghast when they learn kids are being injected with mercury. Our children's day will come. Guest guest
addic4: You are hitting lots of nails right on their heads. It's clear that you understand EXACTLY what is going on--denial on a massive level for lots of reasons: professional reputations and ego, allegiance to a troubled vaccine policy, bureaucratic-think, emotional denial, legal liability--to name just a few. Your idea about billboards on buses is exactly the right thinking. Let's also think about broadcast media billboards--Hardball, for example, with s. Are you with us on OPERATION THUD? > I have only posted twice, as I leave the majority of the posting to > those that I admire. I participated in June 7th and EOH day. Guest guest
I am soooooo with you guys!!!! Let me know what we can do in unison, from State to State, like signs (BIG SIGNS) on top of our vehicles everyday, day and night 24/7!!!! Like A pizza delivery sign on the top of a car!!! Or...ironicley, a political sign for who to vote for in the next election and WHY!!!! If it is legal I am there!!! Who else? remember 24/7 driving around, sending our message everywhere!!!! I am psyched! Time for damage control. LB > > I have only posted twice, as I leave the majority of the posting > to > > those that I admire. Guest guest
How about having the UA ads made into magnetic signs that can go on our cars? I made some calls yesterday to see what the cost for this would be, but no one has returned my calls yet. Does anyone here have a contact to have this done? Guest guest
Becky, Somehow between mercury fillings and motherhood, I have missed this link. And I've been to the UA site several times in the last week and not been able to find all the ads. Does anyone know if we can put these on iron-on transfers on t-shirts? My kids go to tutoring (with lots of other kids) twice a week and my son goes to karate twice a week. And the hobby shop has kids and adult t-shirts for $3-5. I definitely think that they could be a conversation starter (and within my price range). And there are enough that each one of us could be wearing a different ad. Thanks! > LB - take your frustrated energy and hand out some fliers LOL!! > > http://www.unlockingautism.org/grassrootsprcampaign2.asp > > Kidding aside, there is alot we can do as parents.
