Guest guest
I particularly like the " babyface " ad. I'm thinking to place that on the front of the t-shirt and on the back have " Mercury kills cells! Mercury is toxic! Giving Mercury To Children On Purpose Is Stupid! Guest guest
<< From: " rwd2lady " <rwd2lady@...> Subject: So Frustrated 2 on, and then drop 3 and put another on. At the end of the week I'm still at 221. I started this journey at 238. I weigh or measure absolutely everything that goes into my mouth and if it goes into my mouth it gets journaled (I use Fitday). I drink only water, and plenty of it. I am scheduled for a fill on 09/02/05 but I'm wondering how this will help me. If I'm eating under 1000 calories and I'm exercising, what difference will a fill make? Should I really be eating less than I already am? If not, and I need the calories, as I've been reading on here, then what difference will it all make? I'll still be eating under 1000 calories and I'll still be exercising, the only difference is I may feel fuller, but feeling fuller doesn't help you lose weight. As you can tell I'm frustrated and I cry almost every day because I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I know I'm not that special that I would be the only one the band doesn't work for, so that means that it's me doing something wrong. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts, or can anyone tell me if my theory about getting a fill is wrong? Thanks, Dawn>> Dawn I surely can identify with your plight but really the things that they tell you here are right and do work. I know how frustrated you are. I too was at the 1000 calorie mark and didn't understand why I wasn't loosing. I measured every morsel as well. Not sure why but if you will take a look at what you've been eating and change it a little bit..like if you have cereal every morning, try turkey bacon (2) and an egg. Mix up what you're eating for your meals. I was getting my 50 - 60 % protein, right amounts of carbs, < than 30% fat but still didn't loose until I changed the percentages of good carbs with good fats. It's sort of like faking your system out. Also, I felt like I had been exercising but realized I wasn't putting a lot of intensity or diversity into what I was doing. I bumped the days and time spent as well as finding out the best heart rate to work out so I'd build more muscle. I found that taking a 20 minute walk 3 days a week doesn't do much but alternating 30 - 45 minutes hard walking within the best heart rate (50 - 70%) with lifting some weights, stretching..or circuit type training really did start to change my body. Granted I haven't dropped a lot of pounds yet (only a few) but I am loosing inches and my body is gaining more muscle. You're doing the right thing by staying in touch via smartbandsters and getting support and advice. Even though it seems they keep saying the same thing over and over again..they are because it really does work. Just my opinion, take it or leave it..try South Beach phase 1 for a week or 2. It uses the same good bandster foods but uses good carbs and fats and jogs the system by changing some of the things we may have been doing that our body has gotten accustomed to. Good luck, stay encouraged and realize that every bandster here will sooner or later go through a period of discouragement. You can get through this;-) Kem in Eugene 286/230/170 Dr. Neal 8.6.04 <º)))><

Guest guest
Hi Kim, since this situation is out of character for your daughter, my first thought is extra anxiety due to being at the new school. Or is something specific bothering her there (difficulty fitting in or making new friends, a bully, harassment?) She could also be experiencing a worsening phase with OCD that is interfering with her ability to concentrate and do homework etc. Lastly, could she be depressed? Things " falling apart suddenly " could fit any of these. When my child suddenly starts acting out of the norm, that gets my attention too. What does she have to say about your " discoveries " ? If she is usually all aces at school, she may have not known how to bring up that she was struggling at school due to pride or ? If she takes medication, she may need an adjustment or augmentation. This is what finally came out when I questioned the principal and vice principal. He had been frustrated by teasing he was enduring from other kids and had shoved the desk (once I pointed out to them that a truly aggressive child would not be cowering behind another desk) in his frustration with not knowing how to deal with the other kids. They said he also threw his notebook at them. Turned out that he dropped it forcefully on the floor right in front of himself, again a gesture of frustration. >Here is my > question..my son does not go from 0 to violent with > no warnings of > increasing frustration in between. There are clear and measureable signals that our kids give off BEFORE they melt down. Teachers and staff just need to realize that they are dealing with a child with a diagnosed syndrome, not just a delinquent child (who definitely acts far different from our kids.) Having worked in a day treatment facility, I can tell you the difference in a heartbeat. Their whole demeanor is different. > I just think they > are handling things all wrong and I am getting more > and more frustrated > myself. My son's neuropsych has said the same thing, has stated it in a letter to the school administration. does much the same thing, either he blows or he shuts down completely. Yet, even knowing this, the school insists on either getting in his face, or picking him up if he cannot move from where he is. Both escalate the meltdown enormously. (at least in my son's school, they then almost always charge him with Disorderly Conduct - thus giving this child a juvenile record. In five years, has racked up 12 charges (almost all of them DC, one or two simple assaults as a result of accidently kicking whoever picked him up (he thrashes around ))) This is a record that he is going to have to deal with - a preconceived impression of who and what he is like - however wrong it may be. The middle school insisted, in spite of written evidence to the contrary, that it was simple ODD and that he was in total control of what he did. > I KNOW his case > manager is pushing him > when he is already at the end of his rope and this > is CAUSING the problems. > I swear I think I have to email the school every 2 > days about something that > I think is common sense. Things can and will look up in the future. finally got what we have been asking for for several years. He is OUT of the high school, after spending all of last year - except for five days - out of school. He is currently attending night courses and will begin an alternative high school at our local college (five hours a day - no homework brought home - work at own rate) just as soon as they have an opening. No longer will we have to deal with the current high school administration and their inability to understand that he does not have meltdowns intentionally. (no high school sophomore intentionally wants to sit hysterically crying on the lunchroom floor amidst 400 of their peers!) It was a long haul, but things are finally looking up. I hope to put some of the lessons learned with to use helping other parents with their autistic/asperger's youngsters. > > Thanks for listening > -Charlotte Ramble on, Charlotte. Guest guest
Charlotte, I am worried about the same things when my son starts middle school. He is in 5th grade now but I have been looking into other options. One option is a charter school. It does not start until 7th grade but that is ok. And they do take IEP's. He would only have to attend twice a week to work with a teacher one on one and they only focus on 2 subjects at a time which makes learning that much easier. The rest of his work he does at home at his own pace. If you have any charter schools in your area you may want to look into that. I am still researching it further but am seriously considering it as an option for my son. They also offer resource and speech therapy which is a huge plus..... BUT WE WILL SEE!!!!! Good Luck!! in Lancaster, CaCharlotte <scottdesigns@...> wrote: I am still waiting to hear back from the school, it has been 5 days since I emailed about my son failing English and no one other than the school councilor has been returning my emails. She claims the school has been having email trouble and to keep waiting because people will eventually get back to me. I will wait until the end of today but since the councilor seems to be getting my emails I have trouble believing no one else has. The last time I went in to pick him up for a doctor appointment, his case manager walked him down and wanted to discuss his aggression. For the record, my son is not aggressive by nature. She said that a couple weeks ago he had “thrown” a desk at her (which I KNOW was a total exaggeration because he has no upper body muscle tone at all!!) What really happened is he shoved a desk out of frustration and it tipped over. Here is my question……my son does not go from 0 to violent with no warnings of increasing frustration in between. SO am I to believe no one saw any opportunity to calm him down BEFORE it got to this point? I just think they are handling things all wrong and I am getting more and more frustrated myself. This is our first year at this school and I guarantee I am already labeled the PIA mom from Hell. But the $2000 neuropsych STATES CLEARLY is not to be pushed when he is already melting down or he will either escalate of shut down completely. I KNOW his case manager is pushing him when he is already at the end of his rope and this is CAUSING the problems. I swear I think I have to email the school every 2 days about something that I think is common sense. They are doing some state testing this month and as a result they have a different class schedule some days. On these days only gets 20 minutes of sped time and homework help. Yesterday was one of those days. He ended up having to bring all of his homework home and most of it I was not able to help him with but his aid at school would have been able to easily. The first was a literature worksheet where they were suppose to answer question from a movie watched in class. NOT something I could help with!! Second was to do a Science research paper based on a movie watched in class and 60% of the grade was going to be on notes taken during the movie!! My son had obviously taken no notes because no one helped him and I could not help him with the rest of it because I had not seen the movie!! Last week he came home with 3 days of his agenda completely empty, no homework written in and no case manager/aid signature which is suppose to be at the bottom of the page. They also swapped his aid on him in the class he is failing last week and did not give him any advance notice then they wondered why he was having problems during class that day!!!!! Sorry, I know I am rambling I am just discouraged. This is only month 2 of a 3 year haul through middle school and I am already worried that I will have to pull him from this school at some point. Charlotte <scottdesigns@...> wrote: Unfortunately there are NO charter schools or schools for Asperger’s/NLD kids anywhere near here. That is the type of school that his neuro-psychololgist said he should be in from the beginning (although she could not provide me the NAME of any she knew of!!!). I don’t know about home schooling since I have a VERY demanding 4 year old at home!! I stopped at the school today to drop off his costume for the play (he had rehearsal after school) and I ran into his case manager. To start, this woman ALWAYS looks BLANK. She also always appears put out that I am trying to discuss things with her. I can’t even describe it but it is incredibly irritating. She MIGHT be in her early 30’s but I am going to guess she’s a little younger. I know she does not like my son. Which is ODD because I have never run across anyone who doesn’t like him! Turns out she had gotten all my emails but did not mention any of them. I asked if anyone was going to let me know what was up with English (the F) and she said “well, we have to have a meeting with that teacher and I can’t possibly schedule that until at least Thursday because I am to busy. Then I asked about the IEP meeting and she said “ya, that confused me, IEP meetings are annually” so I said we had quarterly meetings last year and she said “you mean progress meetings” well YES since that is what we agreed on at the beginning of the year. I know she knew what I was talking about. She then told me that my son has been refusing to do his work since last week which he has NEVER done and I told her that. I said if he was doing that then there is clearly a problem on their end because that was a new behavior. I also discovered that he never even shoved the desk, he pushed it with his foot and it only went about a foot and never tipped or anything. Yet this woman is telling people he “threw a desk at her”…Grrrrrrrrr. THEN as she was eager to get away from me to leave with the other sped program instructor who she is DATING, I ran into his very nice social studies teacher. She mentioned really liking him and how enthusiastic he was about the current subject matter and then proceeded to tell me how useless his class aid is and that she does NOTHING!! We chatted for a while and with every passing incident (there are more I am just to fried to list everything) I am SO convinced I should have created an alternative school if there wasn’t one!! My BIGGEST problem is that I know she is looking at him and treating him as a behavior problem when he’s NOT but that is the “general population” in that room. They bent over backwards to tell me I was wrong about that before school started and now I know they were snowing me big time. It SO is about that. The case manager is handling him all wrong half the time. Yesterday she told him that if he did not finish his work he would not be going to drama club…this was fine with me because he was obviously just procrastinating since he wanted to get out of there and get to drama. The problem is that she will use the same approach when he is in a full meltdown frustrated with his work. She does not seem to know the difference between these situations even though I have a 16 page neuron psych that tells her this (which I guarantee she has NEVER read!!). Sorry, I know these posts are long, I am just feeling so defeated I want to cry, and it’s only the beginning. Guest guest
I was on pins and needles today because every time the phone rang it was the school on the caller ID lol. The first call was from my son asking me to bring something in for a class, which I did. The second one was the school nurse, who just wanted me to drop off some more organic snacks, and the third was the case manager.. It would appear that he again today refused to do his work and also he apparently had the job of bringing in a CD for use in a class project and he forgot so they made up another job for him which he FLAT out refused to do. He told them he would rather get a 0 than do this assignment because it was not his original assignment. Then refused to do it in special ed at the end of the day as well. To start let me say that the case manager was completely different on the phone today and we chatted for a while. She told me she finally scheduled the meeting with the English teacher about his F and that it would be next Tuesday. I mentioned some of my concerns to her and that I was worried certain situations may be being handled inappropriately. She assured me they weren't (we'll see) and then she told me she had read his neuropsych eval twice and knows how to work with him. I thanked her for that (although I don't know for sure if she did, I can only hope). I told her that this transition to middle school is very hard for him and she said that he has mentioned wanting to go back to his old school several times. Anyway it was a decent conversation and I feel " a little " better today, at least I got a PHONE CALL this time when there was an issue! That made all the difference in the world to me. I just HATE being blown off, it makes me more concerned. I have decided to create a home/school behavior contract with him that allows him to earn computer/TV/video game time by at least putting in an effort on the assignments he is asked to do. I don't know what else to do. Thanks to everyone for listening to me vent!! We are far from out of the woods but I think my squawking is finally getting some wheels turning!! -Charlotte

Guest guest
, I'm afraid that is not really true- I spend 2-3 hours a day on Dr Kuri's very active board for his private patients, and there are often 20-30 posts a day there. As a Kuri patient and " believer " , I make that board my priority. Perhaps your doctor can start a board of his own, to help meet your needs. On this board, there are usually questions every day and all are answered. I also answer 20-30 personal emails almost every day from people who got no response to their posts on Bandsters or SmartB, or get responses that they recognize are clearly poor or frankly dangerous. Many boards are more " active " but if the advice is poor or outright dangerous, that does no one any good. The original Bandsters board is probably the most active of all - so much so, that many posts don't get a response at all, and some others get poor or even frankly dangerous advice. And the newer people, particularly, don't know the difference between " good " and " poor " advice. On many boards, A lot is based on hearsay and not on medical fact or known band guidelines. This, imo, is not very helpful to people, even though the board is very " active. " If you have a question, we'll be happy to help here. There are almost 100 AGB boards to choose from, each with a different emphasis, But no board can be all things to all people. Most people, as they progress in their Band journeys, become more and mor experienced and knowledgeable, and less and less active on ANY board - they are out living their thinner and healthier lives. Guest guest
DFW bandsters seems to be one of the most active boards. Good info there even if you don't live in the DFW area (I live in Denver but am from DFW.) > > I'm very frustrated that the only boards with any regular activity are smartbandsters and > graduate bandsters. Guest guest
Sandy, i should've clarified that the two boards I lean on most are mexicanbandsters and this one. I have heard terrific things about Kuri's board and you have certainly been a tremendous help to me - on boards and private email. In fact, you are the reason I finally decided to go back to Rumbaut for fill with flouro. I'm SO glad I did!!! Turns out everything is fine and where it should be. I just needed a fill, and one done by experienced folks with flouro. Seeing my insides for myself is helping me SO much already (mentally) when eating! Now I need to buckle down and follow the RULES!!! Your time and effort on this and other boards are SO appreciated. wendy > > , I'm afraid that is not really true- I spend 2-3 hours a day on > Dr Kuri's very active board for his private patients, and there are > often 20-30 posts a day there. Guest guest
Hi Sula, I know its frustrating but do not give up. Your body might be getting used to the changes right now and that could be why.. Since it is TOM you may be retaining water and because of your eating better you might not realize it as you would before.. I don't take insulin so I am not sure of the side effects of that.. I understand about the airplane seats.. I had to fly when my step mom was dying and I was soo scared I wouldnt fit in the seat, but I did.. I had to switch planes once and I didnt even have to ask for a seat belt extender on the second flight.. the reg seat belt fit fine. Relax and try not to worry.. Your doing everything right.. Keep up the great work and doing what you are doing, water, exercise, balanced meals.. .. Have you measured yourself maybe you are losing inches instead of pounds?? The scale's just not moving.Southwest Airlines in mid-August - and I'm really, really worried about not fitting into the seat! (Their seats are supposedly 17.5" wide, some of the narrowest in the industry!).I know I'm not exercising *EVERY* day, but I do aim for every-other day at least, and sometimes I manage several days in a row. I'm getting in more calories now so my body shouldn't think I'm starving it. Water is a 'check' - surely I shouldn't hit a plateau after a mere 2 pounds!SulaBlue

The scale's just not moving.< Do you normally feel bloated at TOM? Do you usually have a gain, even if it's just a pound or two? The fact that you didn't put on any weight despite TOM is great! I would bet that if you keep on doing what you're doing, you'll see a loss next week. > It's great to have my BGs under control, but as previously mentioned I'm taking a flight on > Southwest Airlines in mid-August - and I'm really, really worried about not fitting into the > seat! I don't know what size you are, but last time I flew on Southwest I was a 22/24 and I was fine. That was several years ago, but surely they haven't gotten that much smaller in recent years...? > I know I'm not exercising *EVERY* day, but I do aim for every-other day at least, and > sometimes I manage several days in a row. I don't completely understand the insulin/weight loss problem, but I'm going to go google it now so I can better understand. -Bonnie
