I range between a 28 to a 32, depending on who made the garment.

One of the side effects of insulin, and many diabetic medications, is weight

gain and

hunger. Real helpful for a diabetic, huh? :)

I understand about the airplane seats.. I had to fly when my step mom was dying and I was soo scared I wouldnt fit in the seat, but I did.. I had to switch planes once and I didnt even have to ask for a seat belt extender on the second flight.. the reg seat belt fit fine. Relax and try not to worry..

I hadn't responded to the original message yet, but this caught my eye since I just flew to CA last weekend. This is one of the first times it has been actually comfortable flying for me and I am just about 280 lbs. I remember one time flying I was horrified having to get an extender. Then, I could really squeeze it to connect. This time, no problems. One plane I could actually tighten it up a bit, so you might be surprised. Of course, I fly United, so maybe their seats/belts are more forgiving than Southwest... I'll be keeping ya in my thoughts and prayers so that it isn't too stressful Sula!!

Your doing everything right.. Keep up the great work and doing what you are doing, water, exercise, balanced meals.. .. Have you measured yourself maybe you are losing inches instead of pounds??

That was my next thought - be sure to be taking measurements periodically, as best you can...

I forgot this part in my other response. Are you eating enough calories? If your body is getting used to the amount you are lowering to it could be a mini plateau... try increasing calories (similar to Bonnie's Wendie plan) for a day or two and see if that jump starts it....

My intake has varied widely - from 1100 - 1680. Most days I hit in the 1400-1500

range. I

don't 'aim' for a specific level. I eat when I'm hungry. I don't eat when I'm

not, though

sometimes I make myself eat if I've noticed I haven't at least broken 1200

calories.

Certain parts of me (Mostly my belly, which hangs down like an apron GAH!) are

too big

for a standard measuring tape :(

Get yourself a quilter's tape measure - they go up to 108 inches.

Congrats! The weather *is* a bit worm for full length voeralls right now,

but by the time the weather is right you'll be down enough pounds to fit a

nice heavy flannel shirt under them and still have plenty of breathing room.

Keep up the good work!

This is exactly what I do and I consitently plateau. It usually doesn't

last longer than a week, so far. Over all, I'm averaging 2 pounds a week

even with the plateauing.

Sounds very frustrating. Are you doing any strength training? Might be

worth a shot to build some muscle to see if that boosts your metabolism.

Wait a minute, --what are you considering a plateau? 2 pounds a

week is fantastic! I guess I consider a plateau when one goes 4+

weeks with little to no change--or when you bounce back and forth with

the same 1-5 pounds over and over. Anyway, keep up with what you're

doing because your progress is great!

I agree! Be thrilled with 2 pounds a week. If you stop losing then maybe you

can get concerned but averaging 2 pounds a week is a great rate to have.

Chalk this up as a success in your book! And we hope next week will show

another 2 pounds!

Thanks. Averaging 2 pounds a week over 11 weeks is great and I

am pleased with it. But, like everybody else I wish it would just melt

off magically :-). So, I do get frustrated when 1 to 3 pounds jumps

around for a week to 10 days which has happened to me 3 times in

the 11 weeks. I will be happy from now on that it's not a lot longer

than that!

I can understand that. I continually get stuck on the same 3 pounds. It

seems I am always trying to get over that same number. So far....knock on

wood. Once I lose it and break that 3 point sticking problem I am keeping it

off but like you said when it hangs around that long it is discouraging.

Don't give up! It will go away. Just give yourself some more time and keep

up with your exercise. It will turn around for you. For what it is worth...I

am averaging only a little over 1 pound a week so your numbers are great. It

took us a long time to get to this weight it will take us longer then we

hoped to lose it.

Thanks. The other thing that I forgot to mention is that in the same

11 weeks that I've lost 25 pounds, my husband has lost almost 60.

It adds to the frustration :-)

I know that can be frustrating and I don't know the technicalities behind *WHY* men seem to lose faster, easier, etc with little to no work or motivation, but it happens. Don't look at what he's doing vs your level of lbs lost, just look at it as "hey, I am 25 lbs less" than I was 3-6-9-12 months ago.... it'll come off, but women have different issues, hormones etc that plague us monthly.

My 29 lb loss in 1 year equates to what, .60 lb a week loss.... grrrr.... sure, I'd like it to be 60-90 lbs less, but at least it's coming off and other than hovering on a few pounds for awhile (aka plateau) I'm reasonably happy with it.

I had popcorn and a slushee at the movie last night, then one of those chicken snakers at McDs and I thought to myself, if I quit doing the little goodies like those, it might come off quicker too, but what the hey, gotta be able to enjoy a little. When I tell myself no, I notice it sets me up for cravings, binging, etc down the road.....

OK, so long story short: don't compare yourself to dh for weight loss, make it manageable so you can stick with it and you are doing a great job!! (could have saved a page of typing if I would have written this first LOL but this was more fun)

Men's metabolism is just different. I think they can drop about twice as

much in the same time period. My DH lost 40 lbs in the time I lost 50..

and he wasn't trying AT ALL and has done zero more exercise - he's

extremely sedentary!!! You know, I have this hypothesis about why men lose

faster than women (and I admit it's kind of sexist.. so my apologies)..

but maybe it's because women have more patience or something. ;) In ideal

weight/body fat, women have a higher percentage of it than men, so maybe

it's about that. Also it's stored differently. Very few men get cellulite

- that's something women deal with and it's about how your fat gets

compacted under the skin and how the skin responds and stretches and stops

holding it in as much.

Marty, are you on any of the antiTNF drugs? If you are contemplating

disability, it seems that one of the biologicals would help you the most.

Remicade,

Embrel, or Humira. Best regards, Connie

Diclo is short for Diclofenac, an older NSAID at one time dispensed in a tablet

with an acid reducer for the stomach, Arthrotec.

My pain meds went to OxyContin SR a couple or more years ago and it took a while

to find the right combination. This year we finally did with the addition of

Neurontin to the mixture. In the last 4 months my OxyContin was increased to 4-

20 mgm tablets daily and that takes care of much of the steady pain. My problem

in these last 4 months has been a flare of one or more of the family of

Spondyloarthropathies that I have.

Marty, the tablets they will put you on will not affect your work at all. Funny

thing about chronic pain and medications, and that is the effects of Narcotic

pain killers on our work is not the same as the highs the junkies look for.

Most folks will not even notice a change in you except for the lessening of the

pain and the better mood you are in when your pain is lower.

Before OxyContin I was on Percocet up to 10 tablets daily and if I missed a

couple of doses, those around me could tell as I was not as talkative or active

than I normally was. When my doc changed me to OxyContin, I too thought I would

feel higher than a kite after the first dose. HAH!!!!!!!, hundreds of pills

later and I am still waiting for the bang. In the meantime I enjoy life as much

as I can.

Marty, if your boss takes your illness into consideration then I think he will

see a reward in productivity from you when you do go on those pills.

I know we hear wild stories about drug addicts and OxyContin and Morphine, but

for those of us with Chronic Pain they are a lifesaver and we hope the

governments do not get crazy with regulations.

In the meantime we go through life the best we can and with input from others

who have gone down that road, we make it through each day. But I agree, it is

frustrating when the body works slower than our minds. Been there, done that,

and have hundreds of TShirts to prove it.

Above all, do not underestimate yourself, that is a dead end road.

Blessings

To Fr Dave and all,

In regards to taking narcotics, I'm given narcotics by the government all

the time for pain control. I've never had a so-called " high " from taking

narcotics. All they do for me is control the pain level for which I'm very

grateful. I agree fully with Fr Dave concerning pain killers. And I've

been taking them preety steady except for short intervals for the last 26

years. And needless to say, the U. S. government (veterans) doesn't just

give them to you unless they **** well know that you're dealing with pain.

Marty, so sorry the Enbrel isn't working for you. About a year into my

Humira, the doctor had to increase my dosage to double, which isn't done very

often...but I was desperate. This happens to some people...their bodies start

to

build antibodies to the drug and it doesn't work as well. Over the years,

I've been on almost all the medications...and for some of us...it just gives us

a little time of not having as many symptoms...none of the meds work to

eliminate symptoms entirely. Out of all my symptoms, the neck pain was the

worst.

I've had several flares ups with that area...and it took physical therapy,

muscles relaxants, heat and ice packs and, mostly, " time " to get over it. Each

flare up lasted a couple of months before it finally got better. Had the same

problems with almost every area of my body...but the neck was the hardest to

bear. (not counting a bout of sciatica that was so severe my left leg was in

constant spasms from the damaged nerve, which scared the heck out of me for

three days.) You can take Methotrexate with the Enbrel, sometimes that works

for some. However, the Methotrexate didn't for me...and I was on it for

years. All it did was take my hair. I'm still losing hair after being off it

for

many years.

Hope you get some relief soon. Don't despair...as time is on our side. Best

regards, Connie

Ask your dd's doctor what the waiting period is for an increase to show any

Maybe your daughter would do better on a lower dose. You need to ask her

doc. about it. I know I was thrilled at my dd didn't have to take some huge
