Guest guest
Hi I take Omeprazole tablets for acid reflux prescribed by my doctor, they stop the burning I used to get in my throat very well. They reduce the ammount of acid in the stomach and line the stomach. I find them to be very effective. Guest guest
Hi Glynis, I too get this which I hate, but I admit that in my case I can control it to some extent by not eating anything with sugar or similar and some other foods too. If I eat a totally clean diet with no processed or artificial foods & no beer then I am fine. Also although they say that the acid is the problem I believe that the opposite is true & if you take betain HC it helps (with a good digestive enzyme, which I take whenever I eat any wheat cereal for breakfast). This needs to be controlled because reflux over a long period can cause cancer of the bottom of the gullet/beginning of the stomach & my father died from this, so I tend to think I could be going the same way if I am not careful on what I eat. I do not think armour is connected. Cheese - I think quality of the cheese (as in all foods) is important - I eat unpasteurised goats mainly, but also some sheeps (manchego at the moment). I also drink unpasteurised goats milk which is a good probiotic I think and this helps my digestion. Val Anybody suffered from acid reflux while taking Armour? Mine started about 3 months - ish after I began taking Armour and I've had several courses of tablets and have to go for a blood test tomorrow to see if there is a problem. I haven't changed my diet apart from cutting down on cheese....
Guest guest
Acid reflux is the bane of my existence. I deal with it every night and it is a HUGE issue for me right now. I take previcid, sleep sitting up, and stop eating before 6pm. My reflux has caused aspiration pneumonia more than once over the last several months and I tend to run fever on days after a really bad night. I am going to go back to Mexico to have everything checked out but just haven't been able to arrange it yet. If you find any sort of relief, let me know! I'm always willing to try something else! Guest guest
Jenni, Have you tried Prilosec? It takes a few days before it really kicks in but it does the job for me; when I take it daily it is very rare I am bothered by acid. Though the box says to take for 14 days, my doctor says it is ok to take it daily as long as I need it. Hope you get this kicked because it is the worst. Guest guest
I can't get goats cheese around here, its not out in the sticks but hey a couple of miles down the road and you can ask for granary bread at the bakers and everyone looks at you as though you're asking for the moon and stars!! I eat very little processed food and very little food that has any sugar or salt content (apart from frozen mashed potato I have carpal tunnel and arthritis in hands and wrists so I can't peel potatoes any more). I like unpasteurised cheese when I can get it from farm shops or farmers markets, which is not very often unfortunately, but as I say I have cut down on the cheese lately and stopped having margarine as there were too many with trans fats in them & which use maize as part of the colouring, which I am highly intolerant to. I have been under a lot of stress in the past year or two so it is not impossible that I have developed an ulcer, though I don't really have any pain in the stomach / gut area. I didn't think the Armour was connected but it is the only thing that has really changed in the last year, my diet has remained fairly constant. Well I shall await the blood tests with interest. The nurse took three lots, one to test for the stomach bugs, one for kidney and liver function and I think the other was for iron levels, sorry it was several hours ago and I've forgotten what the nurse said!! > I do not think armour is connected. Guest guest
Helena, I'm almost 5 months out and I still take my prilosec *generic brand* every day. I prolly will until I know I am all healed up. I still have 'active' scars according to my chiropractor, mainly the drain hole and the largest scar which is closest to my belly button and prolly about an inch long. I chew a chewable multi vitamin, iron *65 mg* a super B complex vit, and a calcium citrate tab. So is this going to be something I will take for the rest of my life? I have been taking prilosec instead of Nexium (way cheaper!)...Just wondering if those of you whom have been sleeved or banded for a few years still take meds for acid reflux. Guest guest
Hi! dob 9/14/07...I have the same problem with acid reflux, it usually happens after I have had a late night snack of fiber bars containing peanuts. I have taken the generic for prilosec and that helps, but the peanut thing still causes some kind of acid problem. The fiber bars have been my downfall, I eat them easily, but they have caused me to gain weight. I need a real good shot of willpower. I have not had any hair loss I attribute it to the fact that I am faithful about getting at least 60 gm of protein in each day. I am on a monthly mailing of unjury vanilla shake. I also eat cottage cheese, it has a lot of protein (about 14 gm per 1/2 cup)...hope this helps, Jeanie (246 - 195 - 145) On Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 6:43 AM, Jodi <mermaid_jodi@...> wrote: I am 46 and at night sometimes I start to cough and cough if I lay on my tummy when I go to sleep. Guest guest
You may take Prilosec for the rest of your life and if that is all you have to take that is just fine. My Dad who is 84 still takes Prilosec every day so it sound like this is a pretty common thing. So set your mind to rest and know at if Prilosec controls it WOW that is great. That is a pretty easy solution to your problem. Take care, Suzanne In a message dated 3/18/2010 10:22:46 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time, binga945@... writes: After 6 months I still take Prilosec. Guest guest
Hi,  I too had terrible acid reflux for many years. I am a chef & some of us never eat at work, so I'd always eat & then lay down when I got home at nite.........not good...suppose the wine was a factor too !! That really doesn't matter as I was just very interested in herb's & such, so when I was able to start brewing ( big thanx to Margret & Ann) I wasn't thinking about the reflux. Then it gradually dawned on me, I haven't had a Tums or antacid in weeks!!! Now its been mo'.s!!! What a blessing that is!!! I am now eating whatever I like( altho I eat a pretty clean diet) & zero acid reflux. Lately i let my KT get pretty acidic, & it sorta burns a little going down, but I just think, don't worry, let it do it's thing, & then, PRESTO!!!! No reflux no matter what!!! In case your wondering, I considered my case severe, one of the most painful things I've ever experienced, but I couldn't always afford the med.s. I think KT could be marketed on that alone, as a cure. WOW, Margaret, that is a very encouraging testimony! My husband also suffered badly from the same condition and Kombucha helped him enormously. Yes, it is amazing, that Kombucha, which tends to be acidic, can have an ant-acid effect on many. Hope your recovery from the bad reflux continues. Guest guest
Patti, I feel your panic, dear. At age 44 I'm experiencing surprising an complex health problems - many seem to be from long-term immobility; so much pain! I've taken a fair amount of acid reflux meds and have never had trouble with my voice from it. Are you working with a gastroenterologist? If so, ask her/him about side affects and if it makes sense to consult with an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. You need your voice! Guest guest
Zyrtec allergy meds really messed up my voice before by swelling up my sinus and vocal cord areas. Thrush can screw with our voices too. My own experience- drs gave me stomach acid inhibitor meds 'because all sma patients should', like Protonix, Pepcid, Tagament, etc, and they made me have really worse 'heartburn' and reflux than when I didn't take these meds. I have recently dealt with one local pulmonary dr who blamed every breathing issue I had on reflux. I had pneumonia it was blamed on reflux, I had a heart murmur it was blamed on reflux, a wonky EKG one time and a bizarre sleep study results another time, and they were 'caused' by reflux. Get to an ENG/ottolaryngoligist for another opinion. > > I have been taking medicine for acid reflux for several years. Recently my voice has been very hoarse from it.
