Guest guest
Hi Vicki, You didn't mention any red meat. My main sources of protein are beef, lamb, and some rabbit. I was burnt out on chicken also because my O daughter still doesn't eat red meat. At least I got her to eat chicken and fish before she went back to college. I know that meat is expensive, but as my diet has simplified I am no longer paying for processed junk food of varying qualities so the bill isn't too high. Joan in Chicago O-ns some questions Hi everybody! I dont know about you all but I am having trouble keeping up with all this e-mail , But I am learning so much more that I did on the other lists. I am having a problem getting all the protein that I need to get daily. I have a shake in the am with egg protein cause the hfs only had Nutribiotic rice protein in choc. and vanilla but still thats only around 15 or so grams.Do you all and more that what is recommended? I found that that is what gave me the diareaa bofore when I thought that it was the flax.Is this a problem with anybody else? I cant really stomach tuna unless its mixed with mayo and lots of pickle relish so thats out.I cant find any high sources of protein except chicken and I get butnt out on chic. really fast. If only there was a protein pill Vicki ===== " Lord, help me to be half the human my dog thinks I am. Guest guest
Wait, I'm unclear about your morning protein shake. You're downing an egg-protein shake and that's giving you diarrea? Well, whatever is giving you diarrea you would do well to stop. Have you looked into live nut/seed smoothies (here we go again!). I can make a 20g protein 600 calories mostly from living fat protein " shake " from live nuts and seeds alone! Then I usually throw in some live ginger juice, a little live citrus juice, some warming and sweetening Indian spices with maybe a touch of flaxseed oil if I haven't make it with flaxseeds... works fantastic for me! It's almost like I've hit upon one of the ultimate foods... and now I have to content myself with the ultimate, day after day, year after year. Is this the anticlimax I'm experiencing? At the tender age of 22 having discovered one of life's ultimate foods? The blend in my refridgerator right now is almonds, sesame seeds and flaxseeds (the sesame and flax help balance each other out EFA-wise). Delicious! Tuna tuna tuna... I use to abhor any fish. Now I eat salmon (wild, canned) and tuna (canned). I find the meat department's fish too expensive. Mayo is in, always. I like to use paprika, parsley, and cayenne pepper w/ freshly ground black peppercorns to add life to my canned fishies. Also, live garlice and an onion-type veggie will help immensely. You've got to experiment with herbs and spices on your own, for your own palette to see what is possible. Sage, rosemary, thyme, those are good european herbs for fish. Why haven't you mentioned any red meat? Are you insane? Right now I've got some grass-fed ground beef mixed with home-ground venison heart... spiced in the style of the sweet italian spice mix. I put the 1.5 pound mix into a muffin/cupcake pan and cooked it up. I eat two 2 oz. muffins right away, put a few in the fridge and save the rest in the freezer for the next few days emergency snacks or for the effortless meal (I like to cook so the convenience factor isn't too big an issue). I've found meat muffins to be a good way of making quick meals for limited time meals. Also transports well. > Hi everybody! Guest guest
ok I am sure this has been discussed before but what are live nuts and fats?? Uncooked?? live = fresh, raw, uncooked, organic, cold-pressed... I like beef but I cannot bring myself to eating deer or lamb...i guess its the Disney in me.. oh, my partner is the same way....he just can't do it...for me I just just have to surrender it all, (believe me, I'd much rather not have to eat any meat to survive). Alas, I'm an Onegnon...and in this 3D realm I need it, it feeds me, life feeds on life...feeds on life....life feeds on life...feeds on life (I have a TOOL song running through my head). I'm hoping to evolve soon, transforming into a 5th Dimensional being so that I won't have to eat much at all, like I could just become a fruitarian and live on fruit and light (oh, and chocolate, don't forget the chocolate). But until then, I offer rituals to the dead animals I consume, and sing their praises before, during, and after the kill, let the grease run down my hands, and run with the wolves.... ....please note, this is a small attempt at humor, howmI doing Axe? --Lilla --- Lilla Luoma --- lillabell@... Guest guest
Dear and All, I went to the other study group early this morning while I was waiting to get into ,because I could not get into While there I posted responses to many questions. asked this same questions over there, as he did here, so I will transfer my response and his replies here: " " " Question number 1 From: Subject: A few questions 1. Are only chemotherapy drugs prepared in a biological safety cabinet? 2. Is an 'exact count' kept only for Schedule II drugs? (question 91) 3. Does anyone know why federal law requires that patient package inserts be distributed with premarin and not prilosec, dilantin or minocin? 4. How can I learn which drugs need to be stored at room temp and which need refrigeration? Thanks " " " Question/Reply #2 From: Jeanetta Subject: RE: A few questions " " " Dear and All, Here are my opinions and answers to your questions: 1. Are only chemotherapy drugs prepared in a biological safety cabinet? There must be vertical flow to the Flow hood that is used for making Chemo IV's. A biological safety cabinet is made specificaly to 'contain' and limit chemo drug exposure for the technician or pharmacist making the drug. These are considered more 'portable' and some can be placed inside of a verticle flow hood to maximize safety even further. I would not make any other non-chemo drug in a hood or safety cabinet that is desigated for chemos IF I had another choice or location to do so. This would cut down on cross contamination. However if there was absolutely no other choice, I would clean/sterilize the chemo hood orthe biological safety cabinet before manufacturing the non-chemo in it. 2. Is an 'exact count' kept only for Schedule II drugs? (question 91) By law yes. A class III , IV and V may inventort may also be kept this way but it is not required by law. So if it is kept this way then it is by a policy, not by law. 3. Does anyone know why federal law requires that patient package inserts be distributed with premarin and not prilosec, dilantin or minocin? Premarin is the Equestrian Chorionic Gonadotropin (from the Horse or pregnant mare's urine = Pre mar in ). This contains high levels of estrogen. Exogenous Estrogen is a known carcinogen )cancer causing). Any estrogen containing product including Birth control Pills MUST by law be dispensed with the package insert. proton pump inhibitors, antiseizure, antiepileptic, and antibiotic medications do not carry such a risk. Hope that this helps you out. 4. How can I learn which drugs need to be stored at room temp and which need refrigeration? This is by experience and memorization mostly. However if you are trying to convert the Temperature in Celsius to Farenheight or vice versa feel free to go to Jeanetta's PTCB Study Group! There is a tutorial there on this also. Respectfully, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Chemistry Pharmacy Technician Educator " " " Question/Reply #3 From: Subject: RE: A few questions " " " Thanks, Jeannetta. That helps a lot. I wonder how many people (women) know that the reason the package insert comes with the drug is because it is a carcinogen. Not something most people (women) think about! Thanks again. " " " " Oh-on the last one. Are there any generalizations? Like all antibiotics should be refrigerated? or all chemo should be refrigerated? Date Posted: 7/21/02 7:09:16 AM Question/Reply #4 From Jeanetta Re:A few questions " " " Dear All women and for that matter all patients MUST be counseled on new prescriptions. The problem is thast man women/pts forget what they were once told if on a maintenance drug for months or years! So technically all women should know. Do they recall is the question! Secondly there are no generalizations. Most antibiotics are not refrigerated, until they are made into an oral suspension or intravenous infusion. Flagyl premade RTU, is not refrigerated. Chemo varies once made. Hope that this helps. Jeanetta " " " > Do you know the answers? > > Chris > Re: Some questions > > > > Hiya > > I liked the questions that you asked. They are some good ones. Guest guest
Sammy, here are some more answers and explanations: 30. MAC pricing would be applicable to which type product? > B: multi-source generic drugs MAC Pricing refers to Maximum Allowable Cost (see question 87). This is in reference to Medicare billing, on which there is a limit to the amout that can be billed, regardless of the pharmacy's wholesale cost. Therefore it is most cost-effective for the pharmacy to choose a generic drug provider with the lowest cost. 87. MAC refers to the: > B: maximum allowable cost 102. If a patient is hypertensive, which of the following drugs are contraindicated? > B: nasal decongestants My students will tell you that I HATE the Sudafed commerical where all the patients come to the pharmacy window and are automatically referred to the Sudafed aisle without any counseling. This is because nasal decongestants, such as pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) increase blood pressure. If a patient is hypertensive, this means they have high blood pressure, and nasal decongestants, such as Sudafed, are contraindicated. 92. How many ounces are contained in one pint? > C: 16 If there are 30 milliliters in a fluid ounce (pharmacy standard) and 480 milliliters in a pint, then there are 16 fluid ounces in a pint. There are MANY different ways of coming up with this answer, just pick the best way for you to remember. Jeanetta has some awesome math links for help on conversions that most of my students love. PS anybody else reading this, please let me know if I've answered these questions incorrectly, and feel free to expand. I've found that relating things to everyday knowledge and products helps my students remember points. > Jeanettas: > How are you? This site does not provide just the answers, but we comment on the why's so that the student/member can build on the knowledge. Much appreciation in your contributions. Guest guest
Dear , Thank you for posting your answers to the questions. They are correct. Please feel free to give the questions a try and post your answers anytime. What I am about to post is by no means to hurt your feelings, but to support the dynamics of this site. Dear All, It is the (MY) requirement of this site that TEXPERTS review all of the questions and answers posted on this site to determine if the question is valid, ambiguous or not and if the answer is correct. Acknowledging that the answers that are posted by a non-Texpert are incorrect or correct is extremely important to assure that the students/members reading or viewing the material can rely upon the site and its moderator (Dora) owner Jeanetta and TEXPERTS (9 or 10 in total) as well as the information. It is a self-governing, self-correcting site. Every one makes errors (including me!) and it is important to have a second or third pair of eyes. What we do as techs in practice must also be done here in education. All TEXPERTS volunteer their time. They take a look at the site in their own real time. Answers usually appear wsithing 12 hours and up to 72 hours later. Usually within 24 hrs. Please be patient for a TEXPERT to get to the site post their yeah or nay so that everyone can accept or not accept a question and answer. By the way we check each others work also! A big thank you to all who are actively contributing to questions or answers on this site. You have NO idea how much you are helping not only yourself but others who are too shy to post or have the exact same question that you do. Guest guest
Dear All, So what is Relenza (zanamivir) anyway??? What is being blocked??? An enzyme! According to Rxlist.com " Mechanism of Action: The proposed mechanism of action of zanamivir is via inhibition (blocking) of influenza virus neuraminidase with the possibility of alteration of virus particle aggregation and release. " 'It is also important to note that a mutation in the enzyme " reduces the enzyme’s activity to zanamivir by 1,000-fold " . However there is " insufficient information is available to characterize the risk of emergence of zanamivir resisance in clinical use. " (only slightly changed by Jeanetta from the rxlist source). 1. Guest guest
Hello Jeanetta, I'm confused... It's ok to post answers even though I'm not a " Texpert " ? Would it be better if I posted the answers with the source I found them in? I'm in a local College class for Pharmacy Technician and plan on taking the Cert. test in March. I understand you wanting to maintain the integirty of the site and thats one of the reasons I'm here. This is a great source of information. Thank you and Have a Great Day! Guest guest
Dear and All, What I am concerned about is,as in the past, when someone is trying to answer posted questions as a 'practice' that another student/memer will 'accept' the answer as 'fact' and absolute, when in fact it has not been checked by myself or another TEXPERT who is a seasoned tech or another educator like myself. So if student/member attempts to answer the questions in a post it is best to let everyone know " this is what I got is it right? " , as opposed to " here are the answers for you. " . The latter leads others to think that because they gave it a shot it must be correct. Even Texperts make errors...especially those up late at night with long fingernails! (me!) I am suggesting that everyone hold out for the jury - the Texperts to acknowledge the correctness of an answer rather than accept it right away.
