can be taken over your recommendations would be Vit C as the body will just get

rid of what it doesn't need and cause no harmful effects  ...is this right??

+++Hi ,

" Harmful effects " is not a good term to use with regards to taking higher doses

of supplements than recommended since any supplement can be taken in higher

amounts for a period of time without causing harm or damage. However, is it

unnecessary and wasteful to take higher amounts because your body does not need

any more. If it gets more it can throw off the balance of other nutrients. An

excess of B vitamins, which is water soluble, is eliminated through the kidneys.

Taking higher amounts of vitamin C should only be done for short periods of

time, since it can also throw off nutrients balances. But it isn't as simple as

your body getting rid of vitamin C, since it takes time to saturate the cells

and tissues with it. If you take more than the saturation ability of your body

you get loose stools which gets rid of it.

I've known people who took high doses of vitamin C for long periods of time

thinking it was preventative. They had gradually increased the amount so they

did not get loose stools. However, they couldn't understand why they got muscle

cramps since they were also taking the correct amount of cal/mag, other minerals

and supplements. However taking high amounts of vitamin C increased their need

for cal/mag, etc. so their preventative purpose worked against them. That's why

I write: " More is not better. "
