However, is it unnecessary and wasteful to take higher amounts because your body does not need any more. If it gets more it can throw off the balance of other nutrients. An excess of B vitamins, which is water soluble, is eliminated through the kidneys. Taking higher amounts of vitamin C should only be done for short periods of time, since it can also throw off nutrients balances. But it isn't as simple as your body getting rid of vitamin C, since it takes time to saturate the cells and tissues with it. If you take more than the saturation ability of your body you get loose stools which gets rid of it. I've known people who took high doses of vitamin C for long periods of time thinking it was preventative. They had gradually increased the amount so they did not get loose stools. However, they couldn't understand why they got muscle cramps since they were also taking the correct amount of cal/mag, other minerals and supplements. However taking high amounts of vitamin C increased their need for cal/mag, etc. so their preventative purpose worked against them. That's why I write: " More is not better.
