Guest guest
Hi Tina, You have a lot of information in your post, but I will try to tackle it as best I can. In future, could you break some of it up into different posts? Thanks - it helps us a lot! Your son sounds a lot like my son when I finally found Bee's diet. Hyperactivity and chronic diarrhea were some of his worst symptoms. When I brought him to the doctor for the diarrhea, the first thing he told me to do was to increase his fat intake, which made me do more research on diet and that's when I found Bee. I think the best thing you can do for both of your children is to put them on Bee's diet. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it is well worth the results. My son's diarrhea went away after just a few weeks. His behaviour also improved tremendously. My son will be 6 years old next month and has been on Bee's diet since he was 3.5. I don't ever plan on taking him off. I know it is difficult (and is probably more difficult in your situation living in India right now) but it is do-able. When we first put our on son on the diet, he was like a drug addict in rehab. His cravings for sugar were so strong. He would literally climb up into the cupboards and eat dried pasta just to get the sugar. He'd eat candy off the ground outside or off the floor in the grocery store. He was wild! It didn't last very long (a couple of weeks), but we were able to get him to eat the foods he needed to eat. We had been vegetarian prior to starting Bee's diet, so meat and eggs were a foreign concept to him and it took him a while to get used to the new tastes and textures. What we did, was rid our entire house of the no-no foods. We took it very seriously and made sure that our house was our 'safe-haven' from outside influences and the no-no foods. It also makes it easier to not be tempted when you feel too tired to cook or when cravings set in. I think you should put both of your children on this diet. For the younger one, you can purée meats and the allowed veggies together with butter and broth until you get it to the right consistency. You could also try giving him Bee's egg drink. I would caution you on making it sweet, even with stevia, because it might encourage his sweet tooth. You want to retrain your kids' taste buds so that they prefer savoury flavours over sweet ones. In the beginning, you will probably get a lot of protest, but if you are persistent enough, they will eventually come around. Try to involve your children (the older one, anyway) in the food decisions. Ask *him* to decide what you prepare for dinner. But only give him a choice of two things: like eggs or meatballs. If he wants eggs, get him to help you crack them. If he wants meatballs, ask him to help you roll them into balls. And then encourage, encourage, encourage! Say things like: " These are going to be the BEST eggs/meatballs EVER! I can't WAIT to eat these. " When kids are involved in the decisions and can feel proud of what they are accomplishing, it really helps them to develop good habits. A sticker chart (perhaps along with a small toy at the end of a week) of healthy eating might also be helpful. In the beginning, feed them foods on Bee's diet that they enjoy eating (like the eggs you mentioned) and gradually add in new things. When we first started, I would make tiny meatballs and keep them in the freezer for when I made things my son wouldn't eat. But I used them as plan B. I would first serve the new food and if he absolutely didn't like it, he either had the choice of an egg or meatball. Pretty soon, I didn't need to offer the favourites and he happily eats most of what I put in front of him. It's process. It won't happen overnight. It's totally fine for your son to have two eggs at a time. My son once ate 6 eggs at one meal! You don't want to be giving your family herbal teas for their diarrhea because they are diuretic (meaning it will make them lose more fluid). Plain water is better if you can't the right salt. I don't know anything about black salt to say whether or not it's a good substitute. Definitely don't give them honey since it is sugar. I have a lot more ideas and suggestions, but maybe this is enough for now to get you started. I hope this helps! Also some people cannot tolerate lemons for awhile so they shouldn't have the Electrolyte Drink. However, they can add ocean sea salt to water instead. Guest guest
Hi ! Thankyou so much for taking time answering my questions:) I will try to not write too much in one post, I understand that is easier for you!! I want to aim on putting my boys on this diet eventually, but since I am so tired and weak myself at the moment I thought maybe put them on this diet when I am getting a little better!! (I am working on going onto this program too) But definately start going towards it, like no sugars, dairy, more fats less carbs, more veggies etc... It's inspiring to hear that your son is healthy now and thrives on this program What do you do about birthday parties (with all the sugars etc) visiting friends and school? (lunchbox) Does he know what he is 'allowed' to eat and not? Does he not eat eny fruits still after being on the program for this long? After putting my boys on this program, (after lets say 6 months time) can I slowly add some foods? (Brown rice, 1 fruit a day etc) I have so many questions:) But I will leave it at that for now!! Have a good night, Tina
Guest guest
Hi Tina, I understand you're not at home and being in India must be tough because you can't get the foods you want. I think you could start doing for them what you are doing for yourself - eliminating the sugar and dairy along with more fats while they are at home. Then, if you are out and they get some sugar, don't worry too much about it for now. By the time you get back to Australia, they'll be somewhat used to not having those things at home and you can go ahead and start them on the proper program. There's no reason you can't start introducing healthy foods to them now even if you're perfect on the program. We are invited to so few birthday parties that I don't worry about it. He went to one last year besides his own. We live in Sweden and people generally have 'family' birthday parties (I imagine it is like this in Norway as well) and since we don't have any family here, we don't have many parties to go to. But I understand that for some families, birthday parties can be almost a weekly thing. Since your children are so young, I would suggest that you make them 'treats' to bring with you. No one will be offended if you tell them your kids have 'allergies' so they can only eat what you make for them. Something you can make is lemon curd and substitute the sugar with some stevia. Google recipes online for that. There's a certain technique to making lemon curd. My son does know what he can and can't eat. But then, he's been doing this for most of his life. I prepare his lunch at daycare and the teachers ensure that he only eats his own lunch. He went to his friend's house the other day and his little friend offered him some grapes. The mother knows of the diet situation and she said that without prompting, my son refused the grapes and had water instead. We need to keep fairly strict to the diet because when we don't, my son's autism symptoms sneak back. I do believe that this might be a life-long thing and that he will have to remain quite strict forever, but it is possible that other children will do okay having higher carb veggies like carrots or pumpkin (common in Australia) as well as some rice from time to time. The fructose in fruit is one of the worst sugars to have. It acts the same way as alcohol in the body, so it is best to avoid those as much as you can. High fat dairy (Greek yogurt and double cream) might be a better option for them once they have cured their candida. I also don't think that the 'one month for every year' thing works with children under a certain age. By that I mean that I don't think that 3 or 4 months is long enough for a 3 year old child to regain health. Try not to think of this program as having an 'end.' You will likely find that as time goes on, you won't want to go back to eating how you used to eat because it will be clear to you that those foods are the very things that made you sick in the first place. Let me know if you have more questions. I'm happy to help!
