Guest guest
Bev, You always help with the best information and ideas! You're contributions to this site are phenominal! Keep it up! I had surgery a year ago the 17th of this month and have used your advice more than once. I too am trying to stay away from the Peanut M n M's. I crave sweets and try to keep fresh fruit available as well, and when I fail to plan, I " plan to fail " . I sure love seedless watermelons and hope anyone will get their full use of this during the summer season! It's wonderful on my tummy and in satisfying my sweets hunger. I have just started with Crystal Light instead of Gatorade. I know, I know...it's not on the plan, but I have to try to get away from all that sweetness until I quit craving them so much! I also have suspected Gatorade for giving me gas. It seems every time I drink a whole gatorade then I have flatulance problems. Have you found that to be a problem? Much appreciation for your wise help! Suzanne Hazelwood Dr. R-High Point 7/17/03 270/

Guest guest
Hi Ann: Me too. I'm hungry a lot. Recently I've found that some of what felt like hunger was actually thirst. Or..maybe I'm hungry but when I drink instead it fills me up. Either way, drinking helps curb my appetite. I too am searching for ways to ease the feeling of hunger. Flo hungry Good day everyone. I don't post much but do read your posts daily. I've a problem maybe some of you can help with. For the last 6 months or so it seems that I am hungry constantly. I eat a meal and 30 minutes later I'm looking for something to eat. It's not phycological either. I will actually start to get light headed and feel as if I just ran a race. My energy level drops to 0.( I had my blood checked and all is okay there.I get plenty of salt.) I eat plenty of protein, take my vitamins 3 times a day, do the citricel daily, exercise daily, everything we're supposesd to. I had my MGB 5 years ago and have lost 100 pounds. At the rate I'm going I'll be gaining it back. When I do get hungry between meals I try to eat healthy. I've tried eating several smaller meals rather than 3 regular ones. I'm 53 years young and have had a complete hystorectomy 26 years ago. I had my gallbladder removed last year. Sure hope someone can come up with some answers.Everyone have safe and happy new year. Guest guest
My greatest benefit from MGB is that I am not hungry. I feel that part of that comes from eating whole grains. I cook whole oats (oat groats) in the slow cooker overnight for a very filling and long lasting breakfast. I ad rice milk, splenda and some blueberries for a tasty breakfast. I also eat short grain white rice that I cook in the pressure cooker for a main course or a side dish. I buy the grains at " Whole Foods " market. These kind of grains take longer to digest and give a slower release of the energy and it sustains me between meals. Perhaps this added to your other healthy eating habits may help. Guest guest
-- I too stay hungry most all the time. I had surgery April 2000 and lost 150 pounds. Now within the last 7 or 8 months, I've gained 25 pounds. It is very upsetting to think I'm getting " fat " again. I don't have many of the signs of dumping anymore either. Don't know what's going on. Diane - In , " Ann Kinser " <kinser@i...> wrote: > > > Good day everyone. Guest guest
good morning you will have to evaluate what you are eating. your " tool " is done and now you are 80%-90% on your own to make your good choices and to monitor your intake. i suggest seeing a dietitian. dumping is a good " policeing tool " but it is over now--- i also cannot depend on dumping to keep me in line anymore. my body has adjusted and is absorbing more. on the good side..... if my body had NEVER adjusted i would die of starvation!! right? good luck and let me know what you decide and what advice helps. xoxoxox cathy s in va > > > > > > Good day everyone. Guest guest
// I am hungry and can eat as much as before. // Just because you can eat as much as you can, doesn't mean you should. You probably need another fill. //I had 1 fill 3cc.// You need another fill. //If I get another fill will it help me not be as hungry. // A proper fill will help dim you hunger. You should not be hungry for 3-4 hours after a meal. //Also,I have not lost any weight for about 1 month. What's up with that?// You need a fill and you are consuming too many calories. 7/18/05 280/175/
Guest guest
Hi, Laberta! Yes, it's very normal to be hungry at this point, for a couple reasons. Firstly, your band isn't working until you get to a good fill level. You can start fills at 6-8 weeks, after very good healing, and you can get fills monthly until you're at a good level. For most, this takes about 3-5 fills, a month apart. Still, you can lose fine with the needed exercise, imropving food choices, adequate liquids and teh other things we need to contribute ourselves to the " success " formula. Secondly, the band never works with soft foods or liquids. This is why we need to avoid all liquid calories once we get back onto soft foods and beyond. But, for now, the liquids are essential to alow good healing. Do follow your doc's post-op diet orders well. This first 6-8 weeks is for healing, so eat good foods with protein, fiber, whole grains, and calcium (dairy) - this is not hard, even in geh " full liquid " stages. Let us know if you need food suggestions. there is also a helpful (I hope) document in th files here, called " Band Eating Rules... " . It covers food choices, basic rules, nutrition, and more. Guest guest
It was normal for me..I was STARVING and stayed sick at my stomach from lack of food..it was not a fun time. I found that eating shaved ice seemed to help. I think it filled my need to chew and still gave me the liquid. When you get to soft foods (mashed potatoes, etc) you will feel like a new person :-) Michele 253/207/160 Banded 11/30/06 _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of pomlover1981 Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 2:11 PM Subject: hungry I had my band surgery 8 days ago so I am still on the liquid phase of the diet. Guest guest
I'm not sure of your surgery date or how much restriction you have from fills. The band is situated right at the top of your stomach, creating a small pouch. This is were the nerves are that signal to your brain that you've eaten enough. However until your band is tightened to a suitable level, the food you consume just falls thru and into your lower, larger stomach. In order for those nerves to work properly the food needs to sit in the small top pouch. *If you are recently banded and have not had fills yet, you shouldnt be expecting the band to be working properly yet. You may feel a small amount of restriction from swelling etc, but not usually enough. Remember that before you start having appropriate fills, its basically like you are not banded. Continue to eat small portions and snacks if necessary. Drink plenty of water !!! *If you have had fills and are still hungry like you said check what you are eating. You should be having bandster portions of solid protein and then veggies. Do not drink with meals. Do not consume any liquid calories or high calorie soft foods that may move quickly thru the band. Be honest with yourself about the calories you are consuming. If you are eating correct food in correct portions and are hungry within 3-4 hours of a meal you may need another fill. And by the way....you will still get hungry, everyone does. Thankfully, living with some hunger now and then never hurt anyone All the best, 11/16/06 306/242/175ish > > Help. Guest guest
Hungry >Help. I am hungry all the time. No one ever said I would be hungry. >They said the nerves in the abdomen that tell the brain you a full are >right at the lapband site. So whats with the hunger??? Well, no....the nerves are at the top of the stomach, but not right at the band site. If they were, at least in theory, you'd never be hungry. But.....remember, there are at least THREE kinds of hunger. One is " stomach hunger " , but a great many of us had never experienced that, because we never got really hungry....like not eating for a day or two. Heck, we never missed a meal or snack, did we? The second, and for many the most important, is " mouth hunger " . With mouth hunger we like the taste of something and it is so good we want MORE of it. Gee, ice cream, cheesecake, pizza, etc, etc. Bandsters can have a little of those things, but not a lot. But in the " olden days " we'd finish off the last pieces of pizza because they tasted good, we'd buy a second hot fudge sundae because it tasted so good, etc. The third, and perhaps the most important of all, is " brain hunger " . Most us have messed up brains. We're nuts. Now before you get offended, I'm referring to biochemical issues that we have little control over, and also bad habits. We go to the movies and our habit is to get a large coke and a giant bucket of popcorn. Go to a movie without those? My goodness, it would be impossible, wouldn't it? And on the biochemical, I'm not an expert, but many have issues with chemical imbalances that may or may not respond to antidepressants or other medications that a doc can prescribe. Almost all of us need some counseling of some sort.....at least if it is from someone who knows weight loss issues. Let us know more. dan " Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there. Guest guest
Don't make yourself crazy counting calories Here's what i did/do once i notices where my problem was ** Stick to NO Carbs, No Sugar diet 1. I eat when i'm hungry (usually something small, except main meals) 2. @ the END of the day I total'd up my calories, made note if i was high or low 3. check weight in the morning to see how it affected me. 4.made changes if needed (ate more, ate less) 5. repeated the process w/i a couple days i knew my limit & only check my calories when i think i have eaten more then normal & gained the next morning. Then i would add up the calories for the previous day & check my mistakes. To my surprise I have not had to do a steak day since. & I have actually lost more weight & not hungry all the time. Guest guest
Hi group, The last two days I have eaten 4 times per day, I know I have to eat a max of 3 times, but I was very anxious and hungry. I have eaten more proteins and fats (no carb) than my ratios. I am very constipated too. Do you know why I am so hungry and what can I do about it? I want to do the 9-Day Program. Can I drink Bee's Egg Drink more than 3 times per day? Do I have to respect my ratios and the 3 meals for these days? Thank you Raquel
