Guest guest
Hi Nikki, I don't have all the answers for this, but one test you might want to have done is a mold test. I would definitely have the carpet removed and replaced with hardwood. If you're painting, look for VOC free, non-toxic paint. You should also air out your house as much and as often as possible. Some house plants are very good for cleaning the air. If you do a search on this forum for house plants, it has been discussed here a few times. I hope others can chime in. Good luck! The house we put an offer on has carpet & needs a new kitchen (it's half gutted). We are going to do as many renovations as possible before we move in. Does anybody have any suggestions? I've never done the proper research in the past. > > Thanks > > Nikki >
Guest guest
This might sound obvious, but make sure you pay a professional to do a home inspection. Have all gas lines, plumbing, furnace, A/C, gas appliances checked. All of those things can harm your health if there are leaks. Also, if you are going to be doing major remodeling, for example, tearing down walls, removing plaster or drywall or scraping 'popcorn' from the ceiling, have the materials tested for asbestos first. NEVER let an amateur remove materials that contain asbestos. Hire a licensed contractor who is certified for asbestos removal. The law is very strict on this because asbestos is so dangerous.
