Guest guest
I am 4 1/2 years out and I stay within a range of about 5 lbs up or down. I have been like this since I stopped losing. If I don't eat much, the weight falls right off, but as soon as I eat normal again, I go back up 5 lbs. It is so funny how 5 lbs can make such a difference as far as clothes fitting. Pre-op I would have never noticed a loss of 3 lbs, but now my pants are loose - or if I gain a couple of pouinds, they get tight. I never thought a few pounds would make such a big defference. (oh, mny weight is 138 +/- 5 lbs.) I do not follow any diet, and occasionally I do make bad choices. I am addicted to the tiny haloween size Sugar Daddies and I eat too many of those too often! Also, they just built a TCBY literally infront of my house! If the fecncer weren't there, I would see the back door from my front yard. So my son and I have been frequenting them quite often. I truly don't feel guilty when I eat, as I used to. I weight every wek or so and keep tabs so that if I do gain, I cut back on food. THat's all. It is no longer obsessing my life, which is so nice! But, as far as being worried about gaining weight back ordieting forever, don't worry. I eat like a normal person. I try to be healthy, but if I have a treat it isn't the end of the world. I also find that drinking morew water helps some pounds come off too. I always drink water, but ifI gained 2 or 3 lbs I cut back on treats and increase the water.\ Hope this helps some new post-ops, Lee July 20, 2000 283 pre-op, about 140 now size 26/28 now size 6/8 Dr. Rutledge

Guest guest
My daughter Alley was very underweight. When she was close to two, the doctor gave me a suppliment to put in her milk. I had to make sure she drank whole milk only and no juice. Lots of fatty foods... dairy products, nuts, potatoes, pasta etc. She loved cheese, she was allowed to have as much as she wanted as long as she stayed regular. We skimmed on the fruits. She took three different multi vitamins as well, to help build up what she was lacking. She was 18 pounds at 2 1/2 and got up to 25 within a few months. > > Does anyone have any good tricks to have the kids eat to gain weight? > > Thanks >
Guest guest
<<anyone here actually have their children diagnosed with any specific syndromes or disorders?>> My daughter has or has had the following: -Premature birth at 30 weeks due to Intrauterine Growth Retardation; she weighed 2 pounds 7 ounces, or 3rd percentile for the gestation. For unknown reasons, the placenta and cord were shutting down far too early and had she not been born when she was, she would have died in utero. -Developmental Dysplasia of the hip, diagnosed at actual age two and a half months. She was treated using a Pavlik harness (failed), two closed reduction surgeries (one complete failure and one brought the hip from completely dislocated to only partially dislocated), bracing, and a pelvic osteotomy surgery at age 19 months which has completely fixed her hip and it looks wonderful now. -Infantile idiopathic scoliosis, diagnosed at 18 months with a 20º curve. It progressed to 35º by age two, and she has worn a TLSO since age two. At age 5.5, her curve was measuring 17º and the full time bracing was reduced to part time bracing (12 hours in, 12 hours out). We go back in 1-2 months to see how she is doing. -Hypermobility syndrome. This means she has loose joints (often called " double jointed " ). -Connective Tissue Disorder of unknown etiology. Her geneticist tested her for things like Ehlers Danlos and didn't find any known disorder. He feels that, based on her complete history, that it is a genetic problem and has always been present. I concur. -Mildly low muscle tone (hypotonia). Her gross motor skills have always been delayed, but she does eventually meet them and it's not obvious that she is delayed to most people. It was obvious when she was 16 months and not walking, but no longer. -Selective Mutism, a form of social anxiety disorder. She has had behavioral therapy and medication for this and because of this she is doing very well and it isn't currently an issue. I feel her connective tissue disorder is the root of most of these problems. Nola, Bronwen's mom -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
Honestly, I think that 16lbs for a 14 month old girl sounds perfectly normal. Maybe because I have tiny kids. Like I said before Lainey was under 20 at 2 1/2. Her doctor didnt put her on suppliments until she hit 2 years. She had a problem since birth. She was born 6'4 " and was just 5'9 " at 2 months old despite nursing 24/7. She was put on high fat formula and baby food at 2 months. Crazy when I think about it! She was drinking 6 oz every 2 hours and eating three stage one jars a day at three months!! Thats a TON for a little one! Shes my little eater though! Even now. Shes nine and a half and just hit 60lbs. Shes right at the 50% now though. She goes back and forth, for 6 months she wont grow AT ALL, then BOOM! 6inches and 10 lbs all at once. Shes been that way since she was a baby. Nates always been off the scale in height, but low on weight. I think its because of his height hes so low on the scale for weight, if he was shorter hed be around 50%. I would keep an eye on her to be sure shes not LOSING weight. And check with your doctor to see if hes concerned. Petite little girls are adorable!! My sitters daughter will be four in May and shes the same size as Nate who just turned two. She has little parents though, both under 5'6. " BTW, Lexi is such a cute name!!
Guest guest
-Hi , Cam doesn't like the taste of reg. milk either, so I mix it with nestle quick. His doc. said choc. milk, strawberry milk, its still milk! Also, slimfast bars(snack or meal) are a good way to sneak good calories in. They have some snack bars that taste just like candy bars! And thier Optima meal bars are soooo good! You could also buy thier optima shake mix. It mixes in milk with a spoon so you don't need to use a blender. The Royal Choc. is really good. In whole milk, it would give ya an extra 300 or so cals. Plus, vitamins. Also, breaking the meals down to 4-6 a day, with carbs and protien at each meal, extends the benefits. Take Care! Guest guest
Well, we didn't really think 16 lbs was that bad either. All the doctors would like her a little heavier though. As far as growing in height, she has no problem there. She is above average in that department. We have increased her frequency of eating and snacking, of course sometimes she just isn't hungry and won't touch it. Her three meals a day though she eats like a little pig. We are seeing a GI in the next month. Her geneticist thinks it may be something as simple as her body just using the calories quicker. Like I said, we are going to try to get a supplement to add to her liquids or food, however it works. Lexi on her is short for andra....her 3.5 yr old brother had a hard time with the full name when she was born so we gave her Lexi for short. Princess Lexi LuLu is her nickname :-P Tracey > > Honestly, I think that 16lbs for a 14 month old girl sounds perfectly > normal. Maybe because I have tiny kids. Guest guest
Hi , My twins were born premature and had trouble learning to chew, due to a sensory problem. They are three now and they still go to a OT for eating/ finger therapy. Our boys are so skinny that we are always trying to add extra calories. Tyler has even more difficulty than Jordan gaining weight due to casting and bracing. Anyway I have a few print outs that our O gave us I will send you privately. Easy ways to add extra calories to table foods and Super charged shakes. Some of these shakes have 700 Calories!!! They really do work. One of our secrets is putting Carnation Instant Breakfast in their morning milk. They also eat lots of peanut butter and cheese. I hope this helps a little. I will e-mail you the print outs privately. If anyone else would like these just let me know. Take Care Tawney

Guest guest
Regarding 's question as to healthy ways to put on weight, if I had cancer and wanted to gain weight, I would consume the following (I don't know which are consistent/inconsistent w/Dr. Budwig's guidelines): FRESH-SQUEEZED VEGETABLE & fruit JUICE (immediately fresh-pressed; NO bottled juice)-- particularly fresh-pressed CARROT, BEET, ASPARAGUS, organic concord GRAPE, grapefruit, pineapple, papaya, & apple juice Perhaps even green drinks from frozen section of health food store. BEETS sweet potatoes and yams fruits-- papaya, kiwi, organic grapes/RAISINS, dried fruit, pineapple, and other tropical fruit BROWN & WILD RICE flax seed oil mixed w/low-fat cottage cheese or yogurt Vit. Guest guest
, Regarding your friend's debilitating round of chemo, one suggestion would be for your friend to use a good, high quality probiotic. Chemo ruins the digestive tract's ability to absorb food, that's why he lost weight, (me too, by the way) and a probiotic goes along way to restoring the good bacteria. It really helped me a lot. Guest guest
Dear : I was very busy trying to help my husband to learn to live a normal life again. We had the same weight problem as your friend with my husband. He has kidney cancer with lung metastases and he has been on interferon injections since last August. He had lost 35 kilos during the first 3 months and he was very weak. What put him back on his feet was a herbal protein drink combined with several other herbal products, one of which saved him from the cortizones (Schizandra tablets)by relieving his breathing and improving his blood circulation, and a home-made tea from the herb " arum maculatum " that has been known for centuries as anticarcinic. Right now he is still on the interferon treatment but his physical condition is almost excellent, he weighs 85 kilos, his lungs give the sound of a completely healthy person, no coughing, no gasping for breath. He is leading a normal life again, thank God!! Best regards
Guest guest
Hi , I looked exactly like you describe your friend (a holocaust victim) when I was done with chemo. I lost 25 lbs. in about 2 weeks, then couldn't eat for another 3 months. I don't know where your friend lives, but initially my doctor gave me a " prescription " for Ensure. I took that to the KARMANOS cancer institute where I got cases of Ensure for wholesale cost, even though I didn't get my treatment there. I paid $16 a case for it. It's about $7 for a four pak in the grocery store. When my head was finally somewhat clear again, I started using the BodyFX shakes from First Fitness, instead of Ensure, which can be found and ordered on my website: http://www.firstfitness.com/thin4life. As much as I am against dairy, I did mix the shake mix with whole milk for a very short time until I had gained my weight back. I don't wish to disagree with the editor's note. I will post, one day, why dairy is so bad for us. I do agree, however, that cottage cheese would probably be much better for your friend than goat cheese. There is some kind of healing property in cottage cheese, although " chemo brain " can't recall just what it is right now. I'll have to look it up or it will come to me later when I'm thinking about something else! Depending on which state your friend is in (and I AM NOT SUGGESTING ANYONE DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL!), he may be able to get a prescription for medical marijuana. That is used to promote weight gain in patients like your friend and me. I couldn't get it in Michigan. If I could have though I would have, not only for weight gain, but for nausea, pain and aid in sleeping. If it ever comes up on the ballot for voter approval in the state of Michigan, I will be out there promoting it and urging voters to pass it. I don't need it now and I don't use it recreationally. But I do believe there are tremendous medical benefits from it. I'm not sure about this recent law that says a patient can be prescribed medical marijuana by his doctor but the feds can still arrest him for possession of it! That is something new I just heard on the news last week and don't know much about it. None of us wants to go to jail for doing something to help our improve the state of our health. Even as a vegetarian, your friend may try adding a little tuna packed in oil to his diet. The salmon is good and any other fish that is high in omega-3 fatty acids. I highly recommend the Body FX shakes though, and if not that, then the Ensure. Body FX is less expensive and more nutritious, but for weight gain, it does need to mixed with whole milk, only for a short time. Ensure contains lactose too, if I remember correctly (I could be wrong, but I don't think so). Either way, your friend probably needs the dairy right now, if only from the cheese, in order to put his weight back on. I did what it took to gain the weight, because like you said, I looked absolutely hideous. I spent 12 years trying to lose weight before I found Firtst Fitness and lost 70 pounds. I never dreamed I'd ever be trying to gain weight. I never, ever want to look like that again. In fact, I'm carrying around 20 extra pounds now, until I hit my 5 year mark anyway, in case the cancer comes back and I have to do chemo again. I want to have the extra weight to lose in that case, unlike last time when I didn't have that extra weight to lose but lost it anyway. All my very best to your friend and my fellow survivor! If your friend would be interested in trying the Body FX, I always give my full 40% distributor discount to cancer patients and would extend that offer to your friend as well, because he fought the battle just like I did and it sounds like he has won too! At full retail it is $2.43 per meal or serving (14 servings per can and not aluminum can either!). With my discount it is $1.46 per serving or meal. Although it is already reasonably priced, this makes it more affordable for those of us who struggle with income because of this horrible disease, cancer. Guest guest
Hi , You didn't mention your friend's name, but I'm sure he ordered some of the Body FX shakes. Tell him to please let me know if there is anything else I can do for him. Tell him he can freeze the shakes into popsicles for these hot summer months too. I just wanted to let you know that I'm here to help in what ever way I can. My thoughts and prayers are with your friend as he recovers from his treatment. It took me 5 months to recover from my treatment. It's not easy! Blessings,
