Whatever made you gain weight was not the coconut oil. You stated you ate 2

tablespoons of coconut oil every day for 4 weeks and gained 5 pounds. Let's

assume that your body did not convert any of this oil into energy and that

100% of it was converted into body fat. The total amount of oil you consumed

was 56 tablespoons, which weights 761.6 grams. This equates to just 1.67

pounds. This is the maximum the oil could have made you gain if none of it

were converted into energy. So it was impossible that the oil made you gain

5 pounds.

In addition, coconut oil is readily converted into energy in the liver. It

stimulates metabolism thus increasing the burning of calories. So your

weight gain had to come from something other than eating coconut oil.

Coconut Oil

Subject: HELP! I'm gaining weight using coconut oil

HELP! I've been taking coconut oil for about 4 weeks now, one tablespoon in

the morning, and one more later in the day. I also do oil pulling with it

first thing in the morning. Nothing else has changed in my diet or exercise

level, and I've gained 5 pounds. I do feel some benefits from it (better

gums, teeth, less pain in my neck and shoulders), but I surely don't need to

be gaining weight. Has this happened to anyone else? Any thoughts? Thank

you....

Perhaps your body is releasing toxins that your liver/kidney/lymph are not

keeping up with. Could be that one or more of them were sluggish to begin with

or could be that they are a bit overwhelmed with a sudden influx and it is

causing a bit of a back up for your system.

If this sounds like a possibility then supporting the detox pathways might help.

Dr. Fife...thanks for your response.  I'm glad to know it is probably not the

coconut oil, because I wish to continue using it.  I'll have to figure out what

it is, perhaps a need to cut back more on carbs, as Duncan Crow suggested.

Again, thanks......

we will hold extra fluid, if our bodies cannot cope with the level of toxins

being released.

I agree with the person who suggested the weight gain could be due to this.

I am in agreement, too. When I was detoxing, my body weight did a couple of

little ups and downs within the first 8 months of starting to detox. The first

thing I did, quite by guessing because I did not know how to detox, was I used a

4-week colon cleanse to start cleaning out my gut. This first move was a good

one. It's surprising how much gunk comes out of there!

I agree that excess weight is probably partly edema, and the rebounder is

looking pretty good as the best way to move lymph. Also, investigating excess

water weight with regard to low potassium and high sodium might be fruitful,

especially since the electrolyte imbalance is bad for you anyway. Without even

dieting a person can balance their electyrolytes and move the lymph edema,

losing perhaps 8-10 pounds in the process!

all good,

I do think that edema might be a big part of this for me, since I am back down

two pounds this morning!      Thanks.

Hi bee

I've been on your plan for almost 4 weeks and feel so much better already. I'm

31 yrs

And have been thin most of my life. I've never taken any hormones and can't

understand why I'm not loosing weight. I've read that there are reasons why

people can't loose....past hormones..not following plan...etc etc. However. I

don't understand why I'm sitting still at my current weight despite all my diet

changes. I have always had regular periods....and with the exception of some

mild PMS symptoms...can't think of anything else keeping me from loosing. I'm

5'8 and would say I'm arnd 125lbs. I'm not complaining ...just not sure why all

these diet changes aren't making me loose like everyone else.???

+++Hi Jenn,

Weight gain is related to hormones, but not loosing weight or weight staying at

the same level, like you are, so it is a non-issue for you.

Not everyone on this program looses weight, however most do; some people gain

weight.

Cheers, Bee

You did not mention if you have any form of exercise or weight / resistance training as part of your daily routine. Muscle will burn fat. The PACE program was recommended to me - I have not tried it. It looks interesting as it is a 12 min cycle of various activities of your choice.

For many weight is an issue of toxicity. Your body keeps the weight on to protect you from the toxins you are storing. If it were me I would concentrate on detoxing my liver by doing a formal cleanse like the Metagenics Ultra Clear Plus program.

http://organicpharmacy.org/products/UltraClear.Patient.Guide

http://organicpharmacy.org/products/UltraClear.Plus.-.Natural.Berry.Flavor - one of three flavors.

The detox is 28 days and I felt amazing after finishing it. It was a food elimination and cleansing program. The guide tells you how to do it.

This week begins my fourth week on Iodine. I have increased energy and maybe a slight bit better sense of well being but that would the extent. My big concern is the weight. I am probably 15 to 18 lbs overweight. I eat very well; mostly all food is organic and at the very least no chemicals. I am have had some slips on the GF but most every day is GF. I elimiate food and yet my clothes are tight. I will need to buy the next size in shorts and really do not look forward to this.I really thought I would see some shift as I weaned off from the HC, but no. In fact, I think it has gotten a bit worse.I am working with a nutritionist to get off from the HC and work with a more natural alternative (licorice) for my adrenal issues.I am taking the following:Topamax (epilepsy)Thyroid S 4 1/2 grainsHC (weaning) 5 mgB6B5B2B3B12SeleniumZincMagnesiumCoq10Vit CD3Iodine (50mg)AdresetMetagenics SymphoraL-tyrosineI add chia seeds (ground) to meals two to three times daily. I am drinking licorice/tulsi tea and nettles tea at least twice daily.Any thoughts/suggestions?

I don’t see unrefined Celtic Sea Salt on your list. This is very important to utilize while taking iodine as the salt helps the body get rid of bromine and other toxic halides. If ones detoxy pathways are blocked with toxins, then one can experience weight gain due to the toxins. Kathleen

It seems counter intuitive to not work to cleanse the liver. Foods like lemons, beets, and other bitter items will help to naturally purge it. Coffee enemas will help as well. I found that Topamax should not be used with those with liver issues. That tells me that it is hard on the liver.

I found this information:

http://www.ehow.com/about_5576891_topamax-liver-effects.html

Effects

The effects that Topamax may have on the liver depend on whether there was already injury to the liver and to what degree. It may disrupt the liver by altering its normal functions. In addition, rather than transforming the medication into a substance that can be used and eliminated by the body, the liver may transform it into chemicals that actually harm the liver itself.

Also if dealing with adrenal fatigue it will be difficult to deal with weight issues. Taking things like Unrefined salt, Magnesium, Ashwaganda, Licorice root or an adrenal glandular can help with healing the adrenals - you must also make sure that the thyroid is properly treated. Being on 4 1/2 grains is a pretty high dose - I believe you have a thyroid as well. So looking at binding globulins and toxicity from things like mercury which inhibits the usage of hormones would also help you. You can have high circulating values but the body may be unable to use it.

As Armour has now come back onto the market and has been reported to work, I have a script and will have some within the week. You mention the substitution of GF crackers, etc for what I may have been eating. Starches and grains are eaten in limitation (2/3 times) on some days. On others usually once or not at all.I know that a cleanse is really sounding like a good thing, but I have read and my nutritionist agreed, that because I take the Topamax, a detox is not a good thing. Unless a cleanse and detox a different?Salt: I have used the Celtic sea salt in the past and found that it made me retain water. I understand the relationship with sodium and fluid in and out of cells. I am going to try this again.Exercise: About 2 1/2 years ago, I was an avid fan of strength training and then my adrenals would not tolerate any of it. I couldn't even do a a Yoga burn dvd without feeling week and my heart racing. I miss it like you would not believe. I would love to start again but fear compromising my adrenals again.I will look into the Atp Cofactors.Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Louise > >> > This week begins my fourth week on Iodine. I found that 1200 IU Vit E in mixed tocopherol form was essential to

helping my adrenals heal in addition to extra Vit C. I too put on some

weight when I first started iodine but once I got the protocol down to help

my adrenals I started dropping weight and lost 35 pounds over the course of

14 months or so.

I also took pregnenolone every day for several months, and I took 1 pellet

of Isocort per day until my adrenals healed, as well as 1 TABLESPOON and

more of unrefined salt. I know that I'm unusual in that it took so little

Isocort to stimulate adrenal healing, but I credit the Iodine protocol for

that.

I still take pregnenolone occasionally.

I keep meaning to write up my adrenals story but life just doesn't relent.
