Guest guest
Maybe you got some bad cocoa butter? Most cocoa butter smells exactly like chocolate ... just heavenly! :-> - Ela (000)___(000) Ela Heyn / @ @ \ ferret@... | | ======@====== http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/5483
Guest guest
Judy~ I'm one of those people who dislikes the smell of cocoa butter (HATE is a bit strong a term for it <g>). Personally I'm not crazy about many of the " food scents " on my skin. I don't care for smelling like a chocolate bar at any time! LOL Now the Sweet fruity scents (strawberry, raspberry, peach, etc.) are basically fine but there are people who LOVE the smell of bathing with soap using dill and a dill scent to it - Yuk! I've smelled other f/os like popcorn - absolutely nasty to me! What I don't understand are people who want to smell like food! Laughing and glad we're all different - it's what makes the world go 'round! Guest guest
I have been and continue to be totally shocked and amazed at the number of people who absolutely HATE the smell of cocoa butter (the really good, food grade stuff). I love it! I use it in my lotion bars and so bar it overpowers any eos I put it to 'cover the smell'. Hey, maybe add some cherry and you'd have a bar that smells like chocolate covered cherries???? (can't try it myself, don't have any cherry eo/fo) Might try strawberry, tho. But the cocoa butter I have comes from a chocolate factory and is made for cooking so it is really strong!!! What else could be used instead of cocoa butter? Palm Kernel Oil is brittle, is it good for your skin? Judy in Alaska Far North Soap & Supply NEW! Supplies for Alaskan Soapmakers No minimums! I did try this with some peppermint EO, hoping to get a scent like the Girl Scout Thin Mints, but it didn't quite turn out. I think I added too much peppermint, as the chocolate isn't readily obvious. Interestingly enough, the peppermint isn't overwhelming either, which you would expect, if it's overpowering the cocoa butter. Just a nice, mild peppermint scent. Lillith Toney Avalon Soapworks New! Guest guest
what a bunch of good ideas...from a bunch of good and sharing people!!! I tried a cocoa butter soap and it smelled so grandma's-kitchen-cookie-baking good that I didn't put in any scents. But :-( after a short while the scent faded away and it just smelled like, well, soap. (Altho I did give 2 bars away last year, one lady used it to clean her saddles (:-O and the other said it was a really nice soap, too bad we couldn't do anything about the 'dirty-gym-sock smell'????????? Not only are people different, thank goodness, but their noses smell different too, LOL!) I also made the all-famous " " peppermint patty " soap last year, using baking chocolate and while it really did smell like a 'Peppermint Patty " , they were really ugly (mine were, not saying everybodys' are<g>), and the lather was brown!!! That to me is YUK! Think I'll try the peppermint/cocoa butter and see what happens! Oops, gotta go, my other half just got home and needs me to put groceries away before the dog does it for me, LOL! Guest guest
Lucie, You might not be able to copy the other lotion... But try " Francelle's Rich Lotion " ... I have not tried that receipe, but it calls for mango, shea, and cocoa butter and sounds so rich...Cocoa butter does not have that good of a smell... I just received the email about the cocoa absolute...I have been looking for a fo and can't not find one...Maybe someone in the circle can help with that... I know that you will love making your own... try this receipe, unless someone has one that might work better... and have a ball...I have the most fun in the kitchen, just seeing what I can come up with... frances Go into the library and look under the receipe menu... Guest guest
Hi Lucie! Do you have a list of ingredients of the store bought lotion, it may have had other ingredients in it that contributed to the smell?? Maybe you could get better results using deodorized cocoa butter. Guest guest
Hello Deidre, Here are the ing. on the bottle I kept for cocoa butter lotion. water, propylene glycol, stearic acid, mineral oil, glyceryl monostearate, soyabean oil, cetyl palmitate, lanoline, carbomer, tea, DMDM hydantoin, cocoa butter fragrance, dimethicone, ceteareth-20, stearyl alcohol, tocopherol, aloe vera gel, cocoa butter. I could not find any cocoa butter fragrance anywhere and the cocoa butter I used only says cocoa butter on the bottle. Guest guest
Hello Frances, I wanted to do my lotion from scratch, that's why I bought cocoa butter. But it doesn't smell anything and that's what my family liked about the store lotion. They go crazy about the smell. I was trying to recreate that smell but I don't know how. Guest guest
That scent in the cocoa butter that someone was looking for, isn't that the " Natural " smell of 100% pure cocoa butter? I buy jars of 100% pure cocoa butter at times. Nothing else is added. No fragrance. But it has that " cocoa " chocolatey like smell to it. Is that the scent the OP was talking about?
