Guest guest
Cara, you have inadvertently helped us solve a problem we were working on last week; i.e., what is Atomidine? We didn't know how much iodine was in it. I have added the following information to our Supplement Database: 1 drop (0.06 mL) = 600 mcg iodine (from Iodine Trichloride). Other Ingredient: Water. Thank you! Zoe Does anyone know how much iodine is in one drop of Atomidine???> > http://naprashopping.com/ingr/ingr179100.cfm> Looks like 600mcg
Guest guest
> Some of your symptoms sound like classic thyroid/adrenal problems - > - e.g., wired feeling, trouble sleeping, anxious/angry, strange > heartbeats/palpitations. The type of insomnia I got when taking both iodine and clo was totally different from adrenal insomnia and waking up at 3:00am etc that I used to have. I never had that kind of insomnia before and it went away a few days after quitting iodine. I remember reading on some iodine website that insomnia and anger right before bedtime was one of the iodine symptoms (I think too much iodine). And this type of I thought it was odd because when I do the patch test, the iodine disappears in just a few hours, so I'm pretty sure I'm at least a little deficient. > Pimples can also be a detox reaction, and I don't know how to tell > whether they are a detox or something else. I don't know exactly, either, except that they were different than my usual pimples. They are big, never form white heads, sore, and occur in odd places. They are very similar to the pimples that I get when I eat dairy. They also come and go when I start/stop iodine supplementation. > So, at this point, it sounds to me that the symptoms might be due > to the iodine, but might also be due to other factors. So, both > are possible hypotheses. It's possible that other components in the clo, like the fatty acids, are interacting, too. Also, iodine will of course affect the thyroid homone levels, and anytime you change with one part of the endocrine system, everything else is affected. My body seems to be sensitive to changes in cortisol levels. Much of a drop in levels causes inflammation (gum, joint, etc). Maybe the change in thyroid hormones ends up depleting cortisol levels a little. Cara

My understanding is Vitamin A is natural to cod liver oil. I wonder whether Carlsons somehow eliminates some of the A or the brand recommended by Price adds it. What do you think? Since the Price site said they lowered it, I assume Carlson's now removes part of it. I'm not sure why. A dermatologist tried to give my daughter Accutane. I let her read the side effects and she didn't bother. I'm not sure that natural Vitamin A is toxic except at extreme levels. (I've heard Polar Bear liver can kill people because of the high Vitamin A, never knew if that was really true.) Guest guest
Organic Pastures is one of the best and is what I take for cod liver oil. There are only a very few that do not put synthetic A and D in their clo. There was a very good article in the Spring Newsletter from Weston A. Price about clo. It was a research article on it and during the processing of clo they take out the A and D and then put it back in. Green Pastures and Garden of Life are two of the few that put back the real A and D versus the synthetic. Allyn PRIORITY INVESTMENTS N' KOLLATERAL,INC. Guest guest
Sorry it is green pasture blue ice cod liver oil at www.greenpasture.org . I also take the high vitamin butter oil as recommended by Dr. Price over 50 years ago. It has many good things but helps the absorption of vitamins. You might want to check it out while you are on the website. If you order quantity you can get it cheaper. In our WAP chapter we have health professionals who buy it for us at their price and pass the savings on to us. Weston A. Price has chapters around the world so there is probably one near you that you might want to check into because they have great co-ops to buy good organic food, raw milk, etc. Just a thought. Livers in general store stuff that is in the environment, so there could also be stuff like PCB's, for all I know (hopefully the company tests for things like that, but it's been a problem for the Inuit, since PCB's store in fat). However ... from following groups like this for some years, I *can* say that a number of people have in fact had odd reactions to cod liver oil. None of them got any real scientific evidence for their reaction ... they stopped the CLO or cut down. Also ... heart palpitations are odd things. I got them from doing aerobic exercise, and from taking Pseudofed. And I think they are sometimes triggered from a hernia ... it's fairly common for the stomach to move up into the chest cavity, and any excess gas or whatever can make the heartbeat feel weird. And I know someone whose arrhythmias turned out to be triggered by sleep apnea. None of which has to do with cod liver oil or iodine .. just that, it's hard to pin down " the cause " for something like this. You have a food with a huge number of ingredients, and a symptom that can have a huge number of causes. If you want to experiment, you could try different brands of fish oils, at different times of the year, etc. -- Heidi
Guest guest
I think in determining whether a supplement is deleterious to you health you can look at it's effects on others first. You can argue `One size doesn't fit all' but you know... sometimes it does. For instance, I have not been able to take Vitamin C supplements for my entire life until recently. My sister still cannot. We both developed canker sores that became bigger and deeper every day we took vit-c. I knew that this inability to absorb C was not normal and was something I had to work on overcoming. The health benefits were too studied and documented for me dismiss ever taking vitamin C. After adjusting several supplements and adding CLO suddenly my body can take even 20 grams of C and I don't feel the familiar tingle in my mouth. Years ago when I started lifting weights (before my Hashi diagnosis) I took a supplement called L-Glutamine, a semi-essential amino acid, and it gave me palpitations. It is virtually impossible that an amino acid would give you palpitations I was told and all my research confirmed, so it was a mystery. I was experiencing the first round of hypothyroidism symptoms at that time I was later to learn. Once I got on thyroid hormone I could take L-glutamine all day long. These personal nutritional anomalies were all indications of a bigger picture. I now think it was the undiagnosed hypothyroidism causing a magnesium deficiency and my body couldn't fully metabolize the L-glutimine. " The amino acid L-glutamate is metabolized to L-glutamine in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme glutamine synthase, a reaction which, in addition to L-glutamate, requires ammonia, ATP and magnesium. " I think the onus is with those of us that can't absorb/metabolize supplements that have unquestionable health benefits. I concentrated on why the enzymes, vitamins or minerals disagree with me and how I could eventually take them. I would never write off any substance of proven health benefits because my body in a unbalanced state couldn't handle it at that time. I have an acquaintance that claims that claims magnesium makes his hair fall out. I avoids it even in foods! He has mood disorders, depression and muscle issues but will not add magnesium to his diet. Carlsons CLO has Vit A at fairly low levels 700-1200 IU (14-24% RDA) Vitamin D 400 IU (100% RDA). If you can take both vitamins separately without palpitations then theoretically it is unlikely that the dietary fat that is CLO would alone cause them. They are called essentially fatty acids for a reason. Your body cannot function without them. Trace elements in the oil don't seem likely suspects to an almost instantaneous round of palpitations. I would suspect rancid oil or possibly a essential fatty acid deficiency that has caused your cells to be less permeable and when you add the CLO the cells permeability increases and allows another medication or hormone to absorb into the body; you might be taking too much of something else. I would try Mega fish oil capsules from vitamin shoppe since they provide approximately the same about of omega-3 per capsule as a teaspoon of CLO, see if that gives you palpitations. If they do, then you have been given the gift of finding a huge piece of the puzzle in solving your health issues. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=1\ 154925 & dopt=Abstract --- Abbe <abbe_online@...> wrote: > Since I wrote about having palpitations which I > believed connected to cod liver oil (CLO), I have > noticed that many assumed it to be the vitamin A in > the CLO. I wax under that misconception a while back, but when I mentioned it on a health list, someone contacted Cadlson to verify or deny. If anything is taken out of the oil, then it is put back in synthetically, specifically vitamins A and D which can be toxic in high doses. Not the same as unrefined cod liver oil which is healthier. > > Check out Westin A. Price foundation for more info on this. They suggest contacting the manufacturer and inquire whether the vitamins A and D are naturally occurring or synthetic. > > J.B. > >

Is anyone familiar with this brand of cod liver oil? I've never seen it before and it's not in the Weston Price shopping guide--it's called Sonne's old fashioned cod liver oil. I got it at my healthfood store 16oz for 21.95 and it's unflavored. I'm not opening it until I hear something about it. Thanks in advance! Guest guest
> Hi, I have a question that I hope someone on here has had experience with. I have seen many discussions about cod liver oil so I am sure someone does. I have a red bumpy rash on my arms (back of arms and for arm) had it before I was pregnant, went away during pregnancy, then came back full force after I had my baby 8 months ago. My NP (that practices holistic medicine, that is all we have around here) had suggested using Cod liver Oil (she thinks I need more Omega 3;s) I am nursing and I am afraid to take 3-4grams. Any suggestions would be great. I posted this on a baby group I belong to. The verdict ws the rash is probably keratosis pilaris - google it for pictures. The only treatment is vit A, which CLO is full of. I would google Weston Price Foundation and find the brands they recommend. I personally use Blue Ice which I get on www.building-health.com. You can also get the dosage for pregnant and/or nursing moms on the Weston Price website. HTH, Magda
Guest guest
Muscroft likes Polar Power Sock Eye Salmon Oil because its all natural forms of A & D and has no flavours or soy. Its not CLO though but most times they want you to use that is for & D as wll as the EPA/DHA and Polar Power has it all Mandi x In a message dated 05/10/2010 16:17:04 GMT Daylight Time, rowbotham.alison@... writes: Any recommendations for cod liver oil. Nutritionist recommedned nordic natural but when I've looked it has flavours and Vit E from soya both of which will be a problem. Also DHA/EPA ratio is not what I want either.Alison R
