Guest guest
Dear Judy, I live in Nevada. I haven't really heard of the flu much out here yet either. Maybe it's originating with ME this year. Instead of the Hong Kong flu or the Beijing flu, it'll be the Reno flu this year. Or just 's flu. Guest guest
Dear , Yes, believe me, we're having caterers. That was not even up for discussion. And yes, I have been dumping all the vitamin C, echinacea, orange juice, and anything else I can think of down my hubby. The only good thing about having a sick male in the house is that all the females you know can laugh along with you. It's one of those universals. I'm starting to get the blow-by-blow from him as each symptom progresses - never mind that I am ALL TOO FAMILIAR with each one of those symptoms... Men, I tell ya... Cleaning lady? Maybe. I've never been able to handle the thought of someone else dealing with my filth. Especially after a week like this. And on top of all this, Annie's therapist today agreed that she is developing symptoms of an eating disorder. Great. We're hoping it's going to be a short-term thing, related to the orthodontic hardware. I guess we could always get the braces removed so the " food globules " issue doesn't continue to grow. Thanks for the support and suggestions. I have to go comfort my dying husband now who just walked in, coughing dramatically.

Guest guest
We FINALLY got in to the health clinic today so that " us girls " could get a flu shot (plus Christi got one extra). We figured that, with spring break coming up, we might see an increase in our area after all the kids get home and it's been the first time we were all healthy enough to get it. Here Sam gets stuck every month with that IV, but you would have though his world had come to an end seeing his sisters get those shots. He was so sad and sympathetic. What a sweetie! Now if I can just get to go in...... I always feel lousy for a couple of days after I get it, so I think I'll take some Nyquil and just go to bed now! Guest guest
, There are approx 4 Flu medications that can help prevent the ful. My advice would be to get a perscription to one of these four, the one that will last the longest in the frig and have it on had to take when the flu starts grabbing everyone near you. Just a little help at the time needed. Also, I am so very much affected by the recent deaths of so many of our fellow blood brothers and sisters. I just lost my complete home and all my belongings of a lifetime in the Hills of San Diego, in the Cedar Fire. I feel a great personal loss for that but in no way can I compare it to losing one of the CLL warriors. Materials things will come again, to save our lives is the ultimate goal. Cheers to all and fight on, Kurt Ps. Had my flu shot two weeks ago. The experts say that 50 to 80 thousand are going to die in the next few months from flu. Can it be possible? All I can say is damn, give us a break all ready..............K. Flu>Date: Wed, 3 Dec 2003 09:29:39 EST>>It would be interesting to hear what folks are doing about the flu threat>this year. Can you rebuild? What does the insurance say? Much good luck with it, I'm sure certain things can never be replaced. On the four meds you mention, I'm aware of rimantadine, acyclovir and have heard about a couple of others. What are the four you are thinking of? Good health! Guest guest
I really have to chuckle that their numbers about how many in CO have the flu....that is only the ones that have had it tested....I know of several families that have had it and didn't even go to the dr for it. I wish I had been as smart..I took the kids in for something else and they tested for flu and both tests came back positive. One nurse told me she wanted to test to be sure if was flu and for the numbers...I let her...I should have told her to pay for it herself then! I went because my mom was worried about the kids...I should know better but alas...I caved...not again. Just because she is my mom and has lived longer doesn't mean she knows more all the time..hehe.. They tried the scare tactics on me. " oh you better get a flu vax next year, you will get this because your kid have it, (I didn't get it, thanks to oscilloccinum), they have a flu vax for kids now, oh if you don't give her the medicine she will get really sick " ....the list goes on...both of my older kids did get it but they had mild cases I guess..because they weren't that sick. Now they just have the cough left over from it. So really..if 7000 people have contracted the killer flu and only 5-6 have died..that doesn't seem that bad to me, albiet sad. I hate that children have died from this and I don't understand what exactly they are dying from. Don't buy into the scare tactics....(not even your parent's..hehe) Learning slowly some days,
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the nice thoughts, it does help just to let others know and to hear words of understanding, I guess that's really what these web sites are for, so we can communicate about it all. Moving on is the only option, so I will do what I can with either rebuilding or buying another property or buying a 60 ft boat instead with three berths and live the adventure while I still can. My Mom and Dad are ready for anything I do. Thelma is my mom, I am single and my Dad is Stan and they are both in their mid 80s and I am very lucky to have them in my life. My best friends. So, again with their help I will deal with all this and with some insurance, some things weren't insured. Life is a bitch sometimes, but it's better than the alternative any day, so on with the fun right! The other med I know of for the Flu is 'Flumadine (sp?)', so maybe someone else will give us the third one. Now the trick will be to find out which one of these is available and can be prescribed by our physicians for our life support and which one or ones can we get and keep in the fridge until we see the outbreaks around us. That is how it would work in my best case scenario. I am thinking of my parents also. I'm working on apts. with my docs now and hopefully will find out some of this. Anyone who knows about this please fill us all in. Thanks, Kurt Re: Flu Kurt - I'm with you on the sympathy for our fallen friends......But losing everything in the fire, wow, what a lousy break!!! Guest guest
Becky, We are praying for a quick recovery for Maddie. Cassie is still feeling the ill effects of the flu. It has taken hold of her respiratory wise and we can't seem to shake the asthma episodes. She has been put on steroids for the 3rd week now. She usually responds very well after a 5 day course. But, this flu has really been bad here in Texas. I hope Maddie has an easier time with it since she was vaccinated anyway. Good luck. Guest guest
My understanding is that certain flu strains are more common every few years, and that each spring a committee of experts decides what are the most likely three strains expected for the following winter. It then takes six months to develop the vaccine. The cases seen early this season are of a strain not covered by the current flu shot, but it is closely related to one of the strains covered by the vaccine, thereby providing some protection. As in previous years even with vaccination, one can occasionally acquire the flu, even the strains covered by the flu shot, but then the symptoms are much milder. Bacterial pneumonia can be a secondary complication from having a viral flu. Hope this helps.
