Guest guest
This is my post on another list. I had Kimchi once. It almost knocked me sideways but I suppose it could be made milder for Western tastes but probably would then pack less punch. Don't know exactly but I would say it was cabbage pickled in mega tons of garlic and a cayenne pepper. I know that fermented anything is fabulous for resestablishing gut flora so maybe this dish provides a triple good whammy. Note that Kinchi also conquers Helicopr Pyelori which I suspect is quite common in children with autism. Dear all, I expect Kimchi helps protect against Avian Flu by improving gut flora ( Kimchi is a fermented food). Researchers in Korea reported a 0/13 survival rate for bird-flu infected chickens not eating Kimchi, and a 11/13 survival rate for those given Kimchi culture fluid. http://tinyurl.com/3tb88 Kimchi Helpful in Fighting Bird Flu By Bae Keun-min Staff Reporter Kimchi, a traditional pickled and fermented vegetable dish, has been found effective in curing viral diseases for fowl, including bird flu and Newcastle disease. A local research team, led by Kang Sa-ouk, professor of microbiology at Seoul National University, said yesterday that a culture fluid of Leuconostoc Kimchii, a lactic ferment in kimchi, showed clear remedial effects for chickens suffering from bird flu, Newcastle and bronchitis. At a poultry farm, the team experimented with three groups of 13 chickens infected with the viruses. One group was provided only with water, while the second one was given the culture fluid. The last group was given a diluted culture fluid of Leuconostoc Kimchii. After one week, all fowl in the first group died. However, 11 each in the second and third groups were cured from the diseases. Moreover, chickens in the second group, dosed with the pure culture fluid, returned to their normal condition, gained weight from 750-800 grams to 1.5 kilograms and stopped having diarrhea, Kang said. ``The research has proven that the culture fluid of Leuconostoc Kimchii is effective in treating viral diseases, in addition to its already-proven anti-bacterial power,¡¯¡¯ Kang said. The team will conduct further studies on the lactic ferment and distribute the fluid to poultry farms across the nation after gaining permission from the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service, Kang said. According to Oxford Economic Forecasting, bird flu is forecast to have caused $130 billion worth of damage to Asian nations since 2003 until the end of this year. South Korea destroyed some 5.3 million fowl worth 150 billion won due to the avian influenza, since the first case in the nation was reported in December 2003. The losses in tourism and trade in 2003 alone are equivalent to 0.6 percent of that year¡¯s gross domestic product. Last year, Kang and his research team, in cooperation with venture firms, found a way to mass produce antimicrobial peptides by cultivating Pediococcus pentosaceus, lactic ferments from kimchi, as they completed a draft of the genome of pentosaceus separated from kimchi. The culture fluid of pentosaceus can prevent and eliminate harmful bacilli, including Helicobacter, the cause of gastritis, and Listeria and Shigella sonnei, which cause food poisoning. kenbae@... 03-07-2005 19:23 Re: flu Is Kimchi mushrooms? Guest guest
This is close to my heart as well - I have been avoiding boosters for my son (he had separate jabs rather than the MMR) since he was 3. My daughter had all the usual infant jabs, although I requested mercury free versions, but has not had her MMR or separate jabs yet. I have held off because her bowels are so out of whack, veering from loose stools to out and out diahrrea. This in spite of being GFCF since age 10 months (even before she was weaned). Do we know if any flu vaccine would contain thimerosol? I would be tempted to do it for a flu vaccine if it truly was a pandemic. My great grandfather died in the great pandemic in 1917. Guest guest
, The flu vaccine contains LAST year's strain. Moreover viruses mutate so the chance of the vaccine protecting you from this year's strain is close to null. It's a load of bull what they are trying to sell us. Don't fall for it....And I'm quite sure that there are no mercury free ones anyway. Use immune boosters as I mentioned in previous posts...Also goldenseal and echinacea......Your daughter sounds like she shouldn't be confronted with anymore vaccines at all. Guest guest
OK, here is a question for everybody . . . Say I had a baby tomorrow and, aside from a mercury free dpt, decided not to vaccinate her at all until she was over 4 years old or maybe even older. Allright, obviously she would be at risk for all those diseases before she was vaccinated, but my question is, would she be properly protected for getting the vaccines when she was older, or is there something about being very young when you acquire the immunity which makes it more effective? You hear about people in our parents' generation having received vaccines when they were seven or even older, but you also hear about these people at uni getting mumps now because they were in the generation before MMR came in, as though they were too old or something to receive it? Very confused about this. (Mum to Alasdair and Teddy) Re: flu I agree, been around a while like . Guest guest
I think I am going to approach this from another perspective. The vaccines were never subjected to a proper randomized double blind study with 10 year follow-up. And definately not with children. I am doing a study shortly. If I were to inform the ethics committee that I was giving a group of 7 years old 25 micrograms of mercury in orange juice and that routine followed 3 times ( like the DPTP), how long do you think I would be a student in this department. Guest guest
, Looking back, I don't think I really addressed your concerns. What I am saying is that: These vaccines have not been properly tested and that there's more than just the mercury to worry about. It's all the other adjuncts like aluminium which renders the mercury even more toxic. Then there's the formaldehyde. Then there's the SV40 virus ( polio vaccine) which has been found in brain tumor biopsies. Then there's the issue of testing for allergies prior to vaccine administration. I just found out that the DPT my daughter received probably had casein in it. A little too late for us. We only found out she had a severe milk allergy 7 years after the fact. It was pretty apparent she had casein allergy from birth, bright red ears after feeding time. The medical community readily admits they don't know enough about the immune system.... Offitt, a senior American vaccine official ( who by the way has a patent on one of the vaccines he is pushing :-0) says a babies immune is so robust, you could administer 600 vaccines. If this is the case, why do we wait 6 months to add carrots to the baby's menu. Aren't we worried about overtaxing the immune system. Or why the " No children under 16 in the maternity ward". We are told it's to prevent baby's exposure to diseases. So is the immune system strong or isn't it? It doesn't make sense. I remember a meningitis scare here in the UK several years ago. These were older children. The BBC story said all the kids had just had the MMR. ( I think this news release escaped the editorial censors.) It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that this out. Meningitis just means infection of the meninges. That's it. It doesn't mean a specific virus or bacteria. Infections which get out of hand generally follow classic course. hits the throat, tonsillitis and then ear infectionoccurs and then if you're really unlucky meningitis! I lived in Germany 20 years where I met many, many parents of children who remain unvaccinated. It's the vaccinated children who are experiencing the problems. This of course is my personal evaluation. Re: flu I agree, been around a while like . Guest guest
, Thank you so much for your post. I think caution should definitely be exercised, especially with history of allergies in the family (which we have on both sides). Trouble is you run up against the herd immunity idea, and people accuse you of being selfish and putting everyone at risk - to which my response is, if you HAVE been vaccinated, why should you worry - are the vaccines not even EFFECTIVE? However, I do have a great fear also of my children getting one of these illnesses. Basically riddled with fears, me! I was wondering if it might be ok to do it when the child is older, and do it much more slowly - one a year or every six months, perhaps. We are contemplating having a third child, you see. As I say, my family has allergies on both sides, and some autoimmune things too. (I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and get migraines when I eat cheese or chocolate, msg or sometimes red wine) In terms of jabs, my son got everything they gave except the MMR. For that he got separate jabs at 2, 3 and 4 years of age. He always had funny bowels, even before his first jab, I think (although don't they give them one in the delivery room now?) Is there casein in breast milk? I used to think my milk was poisoning him, as he would sometimes alternate desperate, hungry feeding with screams of pain when he nursed. I did not know any better and thought it must be normal and just kept trying. He had intermittent bouts of "colic," where he would scream for hours, once he screamed for eight hours, with us carrying him and rubbing his back. We kept calling NHS Direct and they said it was colic - nothing they could do. He was extremely windy with a distended tummy and loose movements always. He posseted constantly and copiously (not projectile). He slept a lot and was an undemanding baby in other ways. He also had a fair amount of excema (sp?). When he gets ill, his glands really swell up. Sometimes he gets glands swelling up to the size of a small walnut under his ears, which the doctor said was unusual but not outright alarming or abnormal. He gets ill a lot, especially before I put him on the GF/CF diet, and the illnesses really hang on. He never took to milk (and interestingly, got a cold/ear infection whenever I tried him on it) but ate tons and tons of cheese and yogurt. Toasted cheese sandwich used to be his favourite meal. My daughter, who is 20 months now, had the normal jabs in the first year but all mercury free, by request. I have not given her the MMR and am very hesitant even to do separate jabs because of the state of her bowels, although my husband is very afraid of measles and is anxious she should get this one ASAP. He does understand my concern and shares it; we have provisionally agreed to try to get her bowel issues sorted before considering it. She is a lot better off than my son was at her age - her eye contact is a lot better, she has much more affect, she joint references much more and her language is actually a lot advanced for her age, but she is delayed socially, has some sensory integration issues and has almost never passed a formed stool - really almost never. She has been GF/CF since ten months. Also, I noticed that she developed an itchy rash which she scratched until bleeding on the outsides of her thighs, exactly where her jabs were administered. When I rubbed in a cream to soothe it, I felt a distinct lump underneath each patch of rash. Hubby says the lump is pretty common. The rash is still there, she still scratches. Anyway, probably more information than you strictly wanted - sorry! In a way this is an introduction because I sort of jumped into this list with both feet. Just by the by, I am an American with a Canadian mother and am married to a British man; we have been living in London for nearly a decade and both children were born here. My spelling and pronunciation, use of slang and sometimes syntax is literally all over the map so I apologise in advance. This has been the best list I have joined. Happy to meet you all. Guest guest
Hi all, A " flu suggestion " for everyone: go to the natural foods store and get a box of Oscillococcinum (AKA oscillo). Take a pinch of the tiny granules at the first signs of the flu: achy body, fever, chills, very low energy. (One key difference between the flu and a cold: with a cold, you can still walk around and more or less function. With a flu, you will be a lot more miserable, probably flat on your back or wishing you could be flat on your back.) The Oscillo works on flu, isn't really effective on a cold. The package will say that one tube = one dose. But that is way more than you need to take. Just a pinch makes a fine, very effective dose and you won't have to go back and buy more as soon. Take high doses of Vitamin C--1,000 mg per hour, if you get gassiness a diarrhea, cut back the C by 1/2 but continue taking it. These two strategies often will help you kick the flu very quickly. For more info, come to my classes on Feb. 28 and/or March 9--we'll cover these type of self-care strategies. Best wishes. beth In a message dated 2/22/2006 10:27:21 P.M. Guest guest
Edy: It really makes us wonder where we get the viruses, as you are housebound most of the time. Something I learned when our son was young that might help all of us when going out: wipe the grocery cart handle down immediately with a wipe or sanitary hand stuff before you touch it; never use the counter/worker pens to sign anything in the store~use your own. These two things have saved me lots of germs over the years. These two things are touted to be the most germ laden items around. Hope you feel better soon. Things hit us all harder than most. Guest guest
Hi ! Depending on the initial health status (before taking VCO), genetic factors, eating habits of an individual, among many others, the positive effects of VCO should be considered. I some questions to you: 1) how long have you been taking coconut oil (VCO)?; 2) is coconut oil your main cooking oil or others ( name these?). 3) to you commonly use margarine or butter ? 4) is your body adequately supplied with vitamin sources like fresh fruits and juices, synthethic ascorbic acid; 5) do you take balance amounts of carbs, protein, healthy fats (fatty acids for good body cholesterol or high density lipoprotein), vitamins and minerals (your doctor could know this well ! It seems your body immunity is very critical as you feel weak with changes in weather conditions. From the lead questions I mentioned above, probably, you would have an understanding why VCO seemingly is not yet working for you well.
