Guest guest
I read on Bee's website that you should take the HCl with complete meals which include a carb and meat (and fat of course). Anyway, two out of three meals for me are usually only meat and fat, without carbs, so I'm wondering. Should I only be taking the HCl for dinner (complete meal)? That's what I've been doing... Guest guest
Hi Bee, Yes, my name is Suzy. Sorry I remembered to sign my name right AFTER I hit the Send button. Yes, I'm having protein with every meal in the form of meat or eggs. And I have been using www.fitday.com to measure my ratios of protein fat and carbs. (I've also read How to Successfully Overcome Candida.) But I'm still wondering if I should take the HCl after having meals that just include protein and fat but no carbs. Or should the HCl only be taken after a " complete " meal of protein, fat AND carbs. Thanks! If you are on this program you must have protein with every meal, and also calculate your protein, fat and carb ratios according to my main candida article How to Successfully Overcome Candida: > http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro2.php > > All the best, Bee >
Guest guest
Hi Bee, I've read all the " required " reading. I don't have any problem with undigested food in the stool. In fact, I've seen a HUGE improvement in my stool ever since I started on your program. Thank you very much for that! No more pain or hard stools! It's really shocking, considering that we are fed the conventional line that we need more fruits and veggies (fiber) to get the pipes going!!!! : ) Anyway, the reason I thought I'd take the HCl was because I've been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms and I've read that RA sufferers often don't have enough acid in the stomach. I never noticed that food sat like a lump in my stomach, but then it really DID seem to sit like a lump a couple weeks ago. But it's not feeling so much that way now. Is there an adjustment period with the stomach to this diet? I wasn't used to eating so much meat and fat before. I ate a lot more carbohydrates (even though I still considered myself to be eating fairly low carb.) If you DO think I should continue taking the HCl, can I take it with meat and fat, even though there's no carb with the meal? Or should it only be taken when eating the meat, fat AND carbs? Thanks so much! Suzy > > > > Hi Bee, > > > > Yes, my name is Suzy. That's great you have read How to Successfully Overcome Candida, but also ensure you follow the instructions in Curing Candida, How to Get Started: > http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro1.php > > Good for you for using fitday already! > > You wouldn't need HCl if your stomach produces it okay and you have fluids with your meals, both of which trigger the pancreas to do its job. > > If food doesn't sit in your stomach like a lump, not moving into the small intestines like it should (longer than 3-4 hours), you would need to take HCl and maybe more fluid. If you get undigested food intact (unchanged) in your stools you would need to take HCl. > > Do you have digestive problems or issues? > > The best in health, Bee >
Guest guest
Hi Suzy, I'll let Bee answer your question regarding IF you should take HCl. I thought I would just point out that it is perfectly fine to take HCl with a meal that does NOT contain carbs. Hope that helps! All arthritis is caused by toxins, and this program increases your body's ability to detoxify itself like it should. Guest guest
Hi I took a similar item to Betaine HCl, it really helped, HOWEVER that problem was caused by the PPI's like Nexium which makes the stomach alkaline. When I stopped Nexium, I became normal in indigestion. Have been trying to find out from this group are you anemic? I have been anemic last 5 years since I got Achalasia. I get it tested each 6 months B12, Magnesium, Lipid, Glucose, iron, CBC red blood anemic etc. > MCV is abnormal .Guess this is similar to the CBC test. I am normal on all except the CBC which shows anemic. Cant find a solution for this. Ray CA OC 81 old as dirt but very active. I have found out how to manage the Achalasia without any operations etc. It is doable!! > > Question on the use of Betaine HCL. I started seeing a naturopath to assist me with some of my autoimmue issues and he suggested I take Betaine HCL at every meal to help assist with digestion since I take in so much water at each meal to wash my food down. I have a HM with a dor and I do not have a heartburn problem nor do I want one! My MCV is abnormal and it looks like now I am borderline for pernicious anemia, but he thought that the water I take in with my meals may not be allowing the digestive system to work properly in breaking down the food to get nutrients (specifically B12 in this case). If I can take HCL to avoid taking B12 injections I will, but I don't want to mess around with heartburn either. Any thoughts on this? >
Guest guest
Hi Ray, I am not anemic. Only the MCV is out of whack, which is new. As recently as 3 months ago it was getting borderline, but now it is one point away from crossing over the line, so the natural guy thinks it is better to be proactive and address it now rather than later. Guest guest
Glad you're feeling better . I am already taking B12 sublingually but it doesn't seem to be working as well as it should be, so the HCL was suggested to try and if my MCV numbers don't improve start with the B12 injections. I know it is nothing to mess with and will tread carefully. I will ask about the digestive enzymes because that seems like a reasonable next step and the HCL scares me a bit because I don't want to start having reflux problems. Things are staying down as they should and I certainly don't want stuff coming up again! Best, Lynn > > > > Question on the use of Betaine HCL. Seems like it could be a bad idea. Many of our doctors have their HM patients take a PPI to reduce acid production to protect the esophagus. You could take it and see if you have heartburn. Some people with achalasia have a reduced ability to feel heartburn and may get damage without feeling it. I know some people use Betaine HCL to prevent acid reflux but the logic there is for a situation very different from achalasia with a HM. I also understand the logic of too much water possibly being a problem that Betaine HCL could help. I think I would try it and see if it made enough difference on the blood test to make it worthwhile and if it caused any heartburn. You may want to run the idea past your, GI or HM surgeon, achalasia expert. notan

You could take it and see if you have heartburn. Some people with achalasia have a reduced ability to feel heartburn and may get damage without feeling it. " I asked Dr. Rattner of MGH in Boston about this last Friday. It was my significant other's post-HM followup. She has not had obvious reflux symptoms since her surgery three weeks ago. (Dr. Rattner did a Toupet fundoplication, which could be why.) I asked about the possibility that " silent " reflux could cause problems for her. He said it was a very good question, since much reflux is indeed not felt, even in non-achalasians. But he has been doing HM's since 1993, hundreds of them by now, and he could only recall one person who had a stricture develop due to untreated acid reflux. So he did not feel that minimal risk was worth the risks, largely unknown still, of a lifetime of PPI drugs, unless one is having reflux symptoms. The other concern is promotion of esophageal cancer, which old literature said could be more likely in achalasians. Dr. Rattner said he didn't know what to make of that old idea, since it predated PPI's and other innovations. He didn't seem to think it was very solid and also not a reason to take PPI's without a clear reason. I also asked if an occasional endoscopy to look for signs of silent acid damage or precancerous changes might make sense. It said it might, but he does not recommend it routinely. I think the reason is that his patients have done so well with so few problems. He did not see any need for follow-up barium studies, either, unless she has problems, which I found refreshing. He said any more studies of any kind on her would be for academic interest of doctors but would be very unlikely to benefit her, because if she is not having big problems there would be no argument for more intervention regardless. This was his attitude about manometry as well, pre-surgery; since her diagnosis seemed very secure, he saw no point, and that was one of the things we liked about him. These are just his views, based on his experience, and I could understand how others would be more worried about silent acid damage. If it were me, I might have one endoscopy at some point anyway just to make sure, but I don't know if my SO will choose to do that. They gave her cake after her previous endoscopy, so maybe she will. By the way, we can recommend Dr. Rattner very highly for anyone in New England contemplating achalasia surgery. I don't know how many other surgeons do this, but he places an endoscope during his HM surgeries and does not close until he can see all the way down into the stomach, proving that the LES has been weakened enough. Maybe that is one reason for his very high success rate. > > > > ... he suggested I take Betaine HCL at every meal to help assist with > > digestion since I take in so much water at each meal to wash my food > > down. ... > > > > What happens if the Betaine HCL gets stuck in the esophagus?
