HepCAware.org Presents "Silence is Deadly - Living with Hepatitis C" Friday February 17 5:30pm and 10pm Channel 36 West Hollywoods Public Access Station on Adelphia Cable Silence is Deadly - Living with Hepatitis C is a documentary chronicling the lives of four people and their struggle with Hepatitis, a potentially fatal liver disease. While exploring the nature of the virus, its treatments, prognosis, and global impact, this powerful documentary further explores what it is to live with a debilitating chronic illness and its stigma, as seen through the eyes of our characters, one being the filmmaker herself. The film was written, directed and produced by Kindra Anne Ruocco and In Your Face Productions, with the purpose of ending the silence that has become an epidemic for the estimated more than 5 million Americans who will contract Hepatitis C in the next few years. Currently about one in 15 people are living with this disease. "Silence is Deadly" delves into the options and realities of Western and Eastern medicine, and intertwines intimate details from a few who have made definitive lifestyle choices in coping with their illness. Within the words and images, there exists a powerful force for change and awareness with an underlying belief that education equals prevention. It surprised me that a Molecular Biologist said that cancer is the bodies way of healing it's self...the same thing Bee says....but another nutritionist or biologist...can't remember says that everytime we eat cooked veggies, our body recognizes it as a forgein matter and send out white blood cells....the body doesn't do that with raw veggies.....Do you know anything about that statement Bee? Guest guest
> > > Hi Bee and Others, > > I've been wondering about the info that raw vegies are not good. I know for myself if they are not cooked, then I can't digest them very well. Why is it that the Gerson Therapy or other similar treatments have success treating cancer, since their protocol is focused on so much raw produce? And wouldn't all those " carbs " be feeding the cancer? Can someone enlighten us? > > By the way, I asked some questions about a swollen lymph node a month back and the dr. diagnosed it this week as a protruding muscle, not a lymph node or a tumor. So, thanks Bee, I had done the hot wet packs, but am relieved it's not what I thought. +++Hi Marti, That's great you found out you didn't have a lymph node or tumor! Hooray! In the late 1920s, Max Gerson, M.D., began observing that cancer could be cured with nutrition along with systemic detoxification. Charlotte Gerson writes: " Dr. Gerson found that the underlying problems of all cancer patients are toxicity and deficiency. One of the important features of his therapy was the hourly administration of fresh vegetable juices. These supply ample nutrients, as well as fluids to help flush out the kidneys. When the high levels of nutrients re-enter tissues, toxins accumulated over many years are forced into the blood stream. The toxins are then filtered out by the liver. The liver is easily overburdened by the continuous release of toxins and is unable to release the load... Dr. Gerson found that he could provide help to the liver by the caffeine in coffee, absorbed from the colon via the hemorrhoidal vein, which carries the caffeine to the portal system and then to the liver. The caffeine stimulates the liver/bile ducts to open, releasing the poisons into the intestinal tract for excretion. " The Gerson Therapy is not specifically a cancer treatment but rather a metabolic treatment, one that cleanses while strengthening the body's ability to heal itself. Gerson's therapy required the patient to consume a raw plant based diet and to drink an 8-ounce glass of fresh organic juices every waking hour. Coffee and castor oil enemas were among several types of prescribed enemas, and some patients were given hydrogen peroxide orally and rectally. <<<NOTE, however vitamin C is better since it increase the body's production of hydrogen peroxide. Dietary supplements include vitamin C and iodine. The diet prohibited the drinking of water and consumption of berries and nuts, as well as use of aluminum vessels or utensils. Patients were required to drink several glasses of raw calf liver extract daily. His program put cancer into remission and patients would leave the clinic, only to die later of cancer anyway. Guest guest
Hi Bee, This is an interesting conversation, and I've wondered about Dr. Gerson. Your wrote: > " His program put cancer into remission and patients would leave the clinic, only to die later of cancer anyway. " > I've wondered if this diet really worked. I've heard that high fats and beef actually cause cancer, but according to Dr. Price's research, the healthiest people were the ones who ate traditional diets that include high sources of fat. There seems to be some disconnect. Even my chiropracter who believes and follows Price's traditional diet said that he would put people on the Gerson diet if they had cancer. So, are you saying that Gerson's treatment really does nothing for cancer in the long run? Why would it help in the short run? Your statement was so blunt that it shocked me and I'd love a little more explanation of your last statement. Thank you, Lori

Patients feel fine for awhile and then they relapse, and IF they do not follow Nature's Laws on Health as Dr. Price writes, they cannot expect to actually BE healthy and not have their cancer return. One simple example of cancer remission happened with my sister's Hospice Patient; she's an R.N. She said that since hospice patients are so far gone already they don't usually treat skin issues, thrush in the mouth, etc. unless the patient is very uncomfortable. This man was very uncomfortable with many skin eruptions, so she treated it by rubbing in olive oil about 3 times a week. Lo and behold his cancer went into remission, so he was taken off of Hospice Care. About a year later she noticed he was back on Hospice but he wasn't on her Care list. He died within a few months. So just olive oil bought him some time, but it didn't resolve the underlying causes of his cancer which are the same causes of all failing health: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/health2.php All the best, Bee
Guest guest
After seeing the docu " Food Matters " I'm now wondering how much of our health issues does'nt have to do with just plain hereditary? In the Docu Dr. Gerson's daughter, who speaks about the importance of diet and I'm sure referring to her Father's findings, is 85 years old and her mind was sharp as a tack. She was quoting facts and figures without any difficulty. How could someone who has had a diet of mostly veggies be so together? Also Dr. Shinya, the Japanese Doctor who invented the colonscope....also preaches a mostly veggie diet and credits that to his mothers longevity and sharpness of mind at 94 and her good quality of life. Is it possible that our Genetic line has something to do with our healths outcome as well? I just don't understand how some people do not eat the way as ascribed by Dr. Price & Bee but yet they seem to live long physically & Mentally sound lives? It baffles me. Guest guest
When I was first out on my own, I started reading about alternative medicine, including the Gerson therapy... including Jaquie son's poorly-written book about her Gerson therapy, and also Beata Bishop's better-written book about her Gerson therapy. I figured that since there was a lot of cancer in my relatives, I was sure to get it sooner or later. Note: I have not been officially diagnosed with anything so far, but obviously have health issues. In fact, over 30 years ago I went on a cancer clinic tour which was led by a woman named Marilyn Merrill. Nowadays you can take such a tour through the Cancer Control Society. At any rate, one of the clinics visited was the Gerson clinic down near Tijuana. I believe that Gerson's therapy worked for at least some people. I think that if someone did well at the clinic but later died at home, one of the big problems would have been the extremely labor-intensive nature of the diet. You pretty much had to have a family member or a helper of some sort to do everything required on the diet... make fresh juices every hour (with the Norwalk juicer), give enemas, do all the food just right, etc. Some folks couldn't handle that at home. Some folks resorted to growing their own produce. Otherwise, someone had to engage in rather intensive shopping. You really need a second refrigerator for all the special foods. BTW, it is not a fat-free diet, although the only fat used is flaxseed oil. I don't think they use liver juice anymore, due to the difficulty of getting organic calves' liver nowadays. They use some adjunct therapies at the clinic. But the Gerson diet is said to be particularly good for, example, melanoma, which is a fast-growing cancer not helped much by orthodox treatment. The author Beata Bishop (mentioned above) cured herself of melanoma. She is still alive as of a few days ago, because I saw her post to another group just recently (the " Cancer Cured " group, I believe). I think the Gerson diet does well for at least some people, and it has cured some that I know of. Just like Bee's diet, you have to stay on it (though in a less restrictive manner) for the rest of your life, or risk your disease coming back. Gerson himself did make the mistake of assuming that animal products were more difficult to digest than plant products; however, if one followed his diet, you would still be eating better than the standard American diet. But still... Gerson worked out a system, and Bee has a system. I'm doing Bee's system because I think it's better and more do-able, but I don't wish to trash Gerson because I know it works for at least some people. When I was much younger, I actually bought a used Norwalk juicer, assuming that I'd need to use it one day (though I sold it when I needed the money). One of the great advantages of Bee's diet over Gerson's diet is that it is less labor-intensive, and can be done by a single person going it alone. Guest guest
I would agree with Pam - and the one thing I would add is that although the Gerson Therapy uses mainly raw food for it's treatment, it also uses high-dose vitamin and mineral supplements too, and it may well be the addition of these added elements that makes the difference. IT'S ALL ABOUT NUTRITION. Whilst it is a relatively slow process - because no one really knows quite what is going on at cellular level and what is needed at any given time, Bee's regime adds in important foods and supplements that the body can use for repair and restoration. Whether people get the amino acids through plants in an incomplete form or from protein in a complete form, is probably immaterial - what is important is how the body uses them. Even those with Cancer don't always necessarily have very compromised digestive systems - Cancers are dependent on the amount of toxins in the body, not necessarily how good or bad the digestion is - but many people with and without Cancer do, and how compromised it is very much relates to the ability of the body to absorb the nutrition. The Gerson Therapy undoubtedly will have to add in elements like B12 in supplement form, and will provide certain fats in the form of fish oils, etc., and they get around the fibre issue by juicing much of the food, but Bee's regime adds all the elements in all forms predominantly from food - and food that is easy to digest and process. The body is able to adapt to quite a wide range of nutritional sources - from high fat and protein-based to predominantly vegetarian and generally keep well on either and anything in between, but the key to good health on any diet is to ONLY eat highly-nutritious food. You will find that those who promote a raw food diet do indeed eat a diet high in nutrition - and that is because they do not include anything processed or much in the way of sugar. However, many vegetarians have become sick over the years - mainly because they based their diet on nutrition-robbing processed grains and sugars which due to their lack of nutritional substance and the fact that body has to call on its own resources to digest it further depletes already nutritionally exhausted bodies and causes problems. Anything that benefits the body has to be two-fold - a removal of draining and damaging foods and replacement with high-nutrition, but the easier it is to digest and absorb, the better. Having tried both 'camps' and understanding which one my body - and my compromised digestion responds to better, my feet are firmly established in Bee's. Regards, Ali. > > When I was first out on my own, I started reading about alternative medicine, including the Gerson therapy... including Jaquie son's poorly-written book about her Gerson therapy, and also Beata Bishop's better-written book about her Gerson therapy. Guest guest
All I know is that I was a vegetarian for years, and my health took a serious downturn when I went on a raw food diet. Suddenly, my blood counts are going up while eating Bee's diet. That's all I need - I do not care what diets have helped others. This one has saved my life - literally. One of the leaders of the raw food movement, Vickor Kulvinskas (sp?) - his wife died of stomach cancer. I knew then that there was something amiss.Raw food almost killed me. > > After seeing the docu " Food Matters " I'm now wondering how much of our health issues does'nt have to do with just plain hereditary?
