Guest guest
Can the GB actually rupture from stones, or is this " doctor talk " to help scare you into surgery? I know I'm a bit cynical of surgeons, but I'd guarantee you that this image works great as a soothing feel-good mantra for people to hear that are recovering from surgery ( " you are LUCKY! We caught it just BEFORE it burst! " .... " Oh, thank you, doctor, you SAVED my life!! " ). The whole rupture thing could be a mythical scenario, but still one that aids the careers of both the referring doc and the surgeon. Everybody looks like a hero. Who would blow the whistle on that one? From their point of view it's true that 98% of the chronic GB patients will NOT change their lifestyle enough to avoid future problems anyway, so this fear-factor augmentation just helps move the inevitable process along more quickly with less opportunity for relapses. I've done a brief scan of my medical books and the internet but I can't find a single reference to rupture from stones. It's my feeling that the person with a total occlusion would expire from biliary obstruction (or be hauled to the ER) long before anything could burst. Does anyone know of an ACTUAL case of GB rupture? Will in Minneapolis
