Guest guest
Bob - not only in Germany, but in the whole EU. According to the Novel-Food-Decree producers have to prove that their product is harmless. The U of Leeuven found out that stevia decreases the blood sugar level (well,-) and that it may change the genes. In Switzerland the situation is unclear. In some " Kanton " s it's forbidden. Guest guest
A Kanton (or Canton , English spelling) would be similar to a province or state. I think Switzerland has 11 or 12 of them but i'm not sure. Decreasing blood sugar would be quite desirable for some people, better than taking very expensive synthetic drugs to do the same thing which will probably do far more harm to your genes. bob In cures for cancer , szukidavis@a... wrote: > In a message dated 5/21/03 10:17:09 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > pfackelmann@g... writes: > > > > The U of Leeuven found out that stevia decreases the blood sugar level > > (well,-) and that it may change the genes. > > > > In Switzerland the situation is unclear. Guest guest
Interesting, this Novel Food Decree. How does a leaf of a tree get classified as a Novel Food ? It's almost as if they have turned reality upside down. Processed products which could not possibly exist in nature are called ''food'' and sold in the supermarket and a leaf of a tree which has existed in nature for a few million years is considered a ''Novel Food''. I think the chemical companies have too much control and through propaganda people actually end up really believing that manmade products are ''food'' and vegatation in nature considered ''untested Novel Food''? Very interesting indeed. BOB > >, > > > >WHY is Stevia forbidden in Germany???

Guest guest
, Thanks for the info. Interesting...stevia " decreases the blood sugar level " ...so what foods DON'T affect, in some way, the components of the blood? Even water is not " harmless " if improperly used. Too much government everywhere, hiding under the guise of " protecting " people... Bob B. Guest guest
I could not use Stevia because it tasted so bitter to me. Can anyone tell me about DiabetiSweet sugar substitute? Ingredients are Isomalt, Acesulfame-K. Bev. C. Guest guest
>I tired the powdered form the one you have mentioned. It caked and >dried up in the package That happened to me with the first batch I bought by mail order, but when they came out with the Stevia Plus Fiber blend I haven't had any problems. You may have got an old shipment as I did at first. Jeanmarie

Guest guest
I used it by itself and the cake turned out great. I added just a little bit of pineapple juice to get the batter more moist and easier to spread in the pan.
Guest guest
1/4 the amount of stevia as sugar. Let us know how it turns out. Guest guest
Did you use the rapid rise yeast as well? I'm wondering. If you didn't, that means I can use the regular yeast. Guest guest
I forgot to ask if you are using stevia or stevia with a combination. You use a little more if it is combined with any thing. Guest guest
For me, Stevia has a real after taste so taste it first if you haven't. Of course, it's an avoid for me being a non-secreter.
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Does anyone know if there is a substitute for brown sugar, such as stevia. I use the spoonable stevia that is equivalent for sugar any where that I would normally use sugar, but I was wondering what to use to replace brown sugar in a recipe. Guest guest
To me Stevia has a bad aftertaste so I would use date sugar if I was an O. Guest guest
We are allowed to use molasses. Molasses will give you the brown sugar flavor= use to taste
Guest guest
I like the clear liquid stevia, it does not have the bitter aftertaste that the whole herb liquid has. I buy it from Paraguy, it is in spanish or something on the bottle but I think No Dejar al alcance de los ninos might mean no achohol, in which I'm not sure what they use to extract it but it tastes very pure. It is sweeter too than the full herb stevia liquid, so just a little dab will do you! I bought it from the fellow at $5 per 4oz bottle but I had to buy 3 to get that price. His email is hervital@... and he ships it directly from Paraguy for $6 shipping on three bottles. I have bought from him several times, but the last order was five bottles so I have not needed to reorder in awhile. So I cannot say wether the prices are the same, just passing on what they were for me--which I thought was extremely reasonable!
