Could you enquire about or google for frozen coconut water?

I found it in several forms in an oriental store.

It was imported from somewhere like Malaysia or Thailand, forget which.

It is in plastic bags which you thaw.

I also was able to get another wonderful product - a frozen baby coconut with

the juice and jelly in it, and the top sliced off ready to go.

I bought a coconut a couple weeks ago for fun for the kids to crack open. They were very excited about it but once we got it open we did not get very much water out of it and they were not really interested in the water, as it had little taste. We did eat the coconut though. I saved the water in the fridge until today actually. I had taken it out and was going to put it in my smoothie but it turned to gel and it had a strong sour taste and smell. I guess it went bad?

You can eat the meat right out of the shell. Because it's young, the amount of fat, if any, is negligible and it's very easy to digest. When I'm feeling ambitious, I like to sprinkle malt powder on it.

There are a number of canned brands available in health food stores. Wait for one to go on sale, taste it, then stock up if you like it.

Don't worry about approval! Read the label and if it looks okay, take it home and try it.

What kind of coconut was it? Thai young green coconuts are an odd, white, pyramid shaped one commonly sold in health food stores. Of course a regular coconut looks like a fuzzy brown thingy. Which type did you have? Yes, coconut water or milk will spoil rather quickly, so I wouldn't use it if it smells off. I open my coconuts with a dremmel tool-works a charm! I can use the drill bit to drill three holes to easily pour out the water, then the cutting tool to buzz around the top of it to open it. Works on both types of coconuts.

I'm not certain but I don't think young coconut holds up well once it has been opened (I realize, though, that you didn't mention the age of the one you bought).

brown fuzzy thing and I poked a hole in it where there was a soft spot, we went on the internet to find out how to open. I drained the water off of it in a container and then hit it with a hammer and it fell open kind of easy as it was precracked all the way arround.

no idea the age, but I am sad I have to throw out the water. I was saving it like it was holy water or something, just kidding but not really why I was saving it, should have drank it right away now I have to throw it out. :(

You likely didn't get much because it was "pre" cracked. They should feel very heavy and weighty when full of nice water. Having fresh coconut daily is one of the few things I miss about living in Florida!

You had a mature coconut; they contain much less water. You need a young coconut if you want it for drinking.

Thanks for all the info. As far as keeping coconuts I saw Robyn store her coconuts in the fridge until her teen son would get the meat out. It was in one of her videos (I think the video with her hot pink breakfast smoothie?): http://www.greensmoothiegirl.com/

This is OT Coconut Water itself, but I thought you guys would get a good laugh.

When my husband and I got married in India, he had to smash a coconut on the

ground as part of the reception festivities. He had to hold it in his hand and

just smash it against the concrete. It broke the first time he smashed it

against the cement; smashing it with one blow is supposed to prove his

virility--if it took more than one attempt his friends would have had a great

time teasing him about his manhood! (The shell did cut his hand a little bit

though, but he didn't seem to mind, LOL!)

Hmm...they ought to take a tip from the Jews. We break a glass but wrap it first (it's smashed under foot, too). It's kinda woosy that way but a lot less messy. :)

Dear Bee,

That's strange coconut water would have fibers.

And it sure tastes sweet. But I love the stuff, so if you think it's okay

I'd drink it!
