I just read 3 different sites stating that valerian root tests positive for valium/benzo, look it up on google.I think that is your problemFrom: mslizrn@... <mslizrn@...>Subject: need helpEthylglucuronide Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 7:40 PM

Just found out that on June 16th I had a positive for Benzodiazepines in my urine.  The only change I have had is that due to occasional insomnia, I had been taking Valerian root on occasion. This was done on the advice of several people in my NSG and is not on the list of things to avoid. I took one or two of the Walgreens brand which are 450 mg on occasion, but didn't really notice any difference so stopped about a month ago. Have asked for an MRO review from First lab but frankly don't expect much help there considering the lack of help I got with the EtG things. This whole thing has me so stressed I am almost at the point of giving up. It seems no matter how hard I try I can't win. I had another positive EtG in May so this just compounds things. Any input would be appreciated.

I have been in since Dec of 2007. First time for EtG was in May, then the Benzos in June. I was in Diversion before that and was 3 weeks from transition, with a perfect record when I got a cluster of positive Etgs. I don't drink and didn't use any type of benzodiazepines, this lack of control is slowly destroying my life but I will fight till the ends of the earth! I am a good nurse who made a mistake 5 years ago and have made my amends I deserve to get on with my life and have peace!! need helpEthylglucuronide Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 7:40 PM

One of the things I would do first is go to this site and write down EVERYTHING you are eating.

http://www.thedailyplate.com/

I found out that once I really kept track of what I was eating and it allows you to account for the exercise you are doing, I was still eating too many carbs. This means that you will really have to pay attention while you are tracking this to see what you are eating. I hear what you are saying about eating meat. Chicken was the easiest thing for me to chew and eat. But you can drink the protein drinks too. You need about 70 grams of protein each day. I tried to have NO more than 20 grams of carbs each day. Remember fruit has carbs in it. So it is more veggies and protein.

I went for about 9 days with NO weight loss. Our bodies to this sometime--no weight loss. You need to have about 800 calories a day and if you have less your body thinks you are starving it, so it holds on to the fat in your body. It take a little work to get the right balance.

I hope this helps you.

Sure, you need to get your water and protein in. It doesn't matter how, just what ever works best for you.

Yes... you should be sipping water all day from here on out.

Drinking protein... that one is up in the air... depending on who you talk to.

I can't get in all of my protein unless I drink a protein shake once or twice a day.

I can't eat until late in the day, but I can get in my protein through drinking it earlier.

I get really tired of protein shakes, so sometimes I just mix my unjury with about 1/2 cup of milk and drink it.

I teach so this is my lunch often at school. I get a carton of milk in the lunchroom and pour some out.

Add my unjury and shake. Drink it up and I'm good to go.

Some people are really against the protein drinks once you hit real food stage. I do both so I think I'm okay.

As I said, I have once again starting loosing now that I'm making sure I get my vit & protein in.

You will slow down AND you will STOP losing every once in a while, but don't get discouraged.

Just follow your rules and don't worry. It will come off!

Hi Judy: Just a note about resurfacing: I was told by my surgeon (Dr. Amstutz

- he's done over 1500 of these procedures) that it is not the age of the

patient, it is the quality of the bone stock. He does not have a problem with

performing a resurfacing on anyone who is a candidate, no matter what the age or

sex. I know personally of one woman who is now almost four years post op who

presented with not osteopenia, but actual osteoporosis and had a successful

resurfacing with Dr. Amstutz. She is very happy with her results - no problems

to this point. There are other well respected and experienced surgeons who also

are of the same opinion. If you'd like, you can e-mail me offline and I can get

you more information.

Just a (hopefully) helpful suggestion. Take good care.

Hi Judy: I just saw that you are close to Santa . Dr. Amstutz is at the

Joint Replacement Institute in Los Angeles, and Dr. Ball (another good resurf

surgeon) is in San Diego. I understand that Dr. Ball will give a free phone

consult if you can send him your x-rays. He is easy to get in contact with,

too.

I hope someone will be able to dig into their experience and help me.

I am 2 1/2 years out from my TKR and I still have some swelling below the knee

and pain during a day of judging. The swelling has been there for the whole

time. The doctors thought it was just some tissue reaction to the trauma during

the surgery. We tried alot of different things but it is still here. I have

always had some pain, but I have learned to tolerate it with meds and internal

fortitude.

I was finally referred to another specialist who is thinking I may have a

degredation of the Tibia and the appliance might be loose. They are going to

schedule a Dex scan to see. Anyone have some of these problems?

I am almost 6 months into my TKR and the knee is as swollen as it was the day of

surgery! It is still stiff, but not so much that I can't do stairs. With

pressure I can get 130 degrees, but that does hurt. I also have little needles

on the front of my knee. I am beginning to think that this is normal. I have

no infection and walk terrifically, doing my 10,000 steps a day. At least I

don't have that terrible bone on bone pain.

I think everyone is different. We all react to pain differently, and all have

different levels of activity.

So, I think that if there is no infection, and you don't feel as if your metal

knee is roaming around inside your leg, you are lucky to not be in a scooter.

All the best, Joan

That's true...when I had my thumb operated on to remedy severe arthritis, the

swelling was miserable for a year or more...finally a short burst of Prednisone

(unrelated issues, not recommended, tho!) helped calm the swelling, too, but

slowly but surely it went down to a more normal looking thumb.  But it does take

time, I'll have to agree.

I too am 6 months post TKR. Out of the clear blue about a month ago, I began to

walk and even jog a bit and actually began skipping days where not once did I

think about my knee! The only thing that seem sto remind me these days is the

nasty scar I have. Unfortunatley, the doctor didn't make such a great incision,

but honestly, that is the least of my worries. My goal was to be pain free and

to be able to walk and move without pain or pain meds. It is so much better than

that in every respect. Yes, there is still stiffness and swelling especially on

rainy days. I guess it will be another few months before that goes away. I think

the cocoa butter has been a trememndous help in helping my skin heal. What a far

cry from the initial months after my surgery. I was so depressed and unsure

whether I had made the right decision. Now I can say that I definitely made the

right decision. I hope this helps those who are feeling frustrated or depressed.

We are having a great time on QM2. I even do the stairs between decks! We will

Hi Joan, How is the QEII? I have always wanted to cross the Atlantic on a ship.

Glad to hear you are doing the stairs between decks. I truly believe that going

It just gets better and better. I don't even have to hold the rails anymore.

Ellen - high neuts is a good thing, usually. Better than high lymphs.

Unexplained fevers are a cause for observation. You have heard the famous term: B symptoms. Low grade fevers is one of them.

A temporary low grade fever can be caused by a million things. I'm just suggesting that if it persists it warrants investigation.

Can dehydration cause this low-grade fever? I also had a headache

today.............although I know headache can also be caused by anemia,

which I have.

Thanks,

- high neuts is a good thing, usually. Better than high lymphs. Unexplained

fevers are a cause for observation. You have heard the famous term: B symptoms.

Low grade fevers is one of them. A

temporary low grade fever can be caused by a million things. I'm just suggesting

that if it persists it warrants investigation. In

I laid on the bed for a while. My energy didn't pick up,

of water and

just had some Pedialyte. Before I took the Pedialyte, I

But I'm in air-conditioning. I don't feel like I have a

it be my body fighting herpes? Could the cll be causing

this? Is my

cr**. I've never

had conventional tx., and when my neuts were checked

last, at the

end of May, they were really high, at the upper end of

normal.

Thanks,

Ellen R.
