I basically could eat nothing without a lot of discomfort and no one could tell us anything. I was living on freshly made organic veg and fruit juices (non-citrus) and even those bothered me so much that one night we called 911. Turned out it was a lot of things that cascaded into a mess (my personal scientific term for it). I had an reflux, an ulcer that I made worse with the fresh juices and acute deep gastritis. I finally stopped everything and then started on 2-3 Tablespoons of mashed po tatoes with salt, no butter, then slowly added foods to gain strength. I am in the South so I ate grits with pureed chicken (run through a Cuisinart food processor) so I could absorb it. Everything was chopped fine in the food processor so I had very little work to do to digest anything. I did not drink liquids with my meals to allow the maximum digestive capacity possible. I did NOT take enzymes since the enzymes from the wonderful juices had contributed to the problem. I ate alone in a totally quiet environment so my body had nothing to contend with but eating and absorbing. Everything I ate was cooked, I ate small amounts often (my stomach had shrunk to more was not possible). Given a little time my stomach healed and I progressed and now I am only careful with acidic things. One naturopath suggested baby food and I think I actually ate one jar, but that did not make me happy as an idea so I was determined to handle this issue without going the baby-food route which is why I came up with pureed foods. I took B-12 shots because my absorption was so crummy and luckily I like liver so I pureed that and ate it at least once or twice a week. I did not take any drugs, only lots of water between meals to keep the stomach/gut soothed and quiet and 12-14 acidopholous caps daily spread out over the day. I chewed up any supplements (which was not fun) and of course omitted the acidic ones like Vit C. I do not know if any of this info is helpful for you and your daughter. Have you considered alternative medicine? A good naturopath can be very useful helping you get to the bottom of things that the traditional MD community might not be able to -- they come from a different paradigm. Acupuncture might be a good supportive modality too when she feels a little better. Good luck and I hope you can find an answer to this young woman's problem. I remember being totally miserable and very fearful of food for a while.
Guest guest
Dan: One last question. Could she possibly have food allergies that have now become so overwhelming that she experiences a reaction to everything? Is there ANYTHING she can eat that sits ok that she finds comforting? Even childhood " strange " food. Sometimes the body can recognize that as a friend when everything else is being classified as an enemy invader. Maybe she can start there and eat those foods and her body can guide you into the direction she needs to go. There are many allergy treatments now that are not invasive like all those shots that people had to endure in the past. Good luck,
Guest guest
<<I had an reflux, an ulcer that I made worse with the fresh juices and acute deep gastritis.>> I know that it sounds like absolute torture, but Cayenne pepper is used to cure ulcers including bleeding ulcers. It relieves the pain. (There is even a Cayenne crème for hemorrhoids - it stops the pain there too.) The following story seems a little far-fetched but I've seen several others that are similar to it. from: http://seasilver.threadnet.com/Preventorium/capsicum.htm<http://seasilverthreadn\ et.com/Preventorium/capsicum.htm> " Capsicum increases the power of all other herbs. It is said to be unequaled for warding off diseases and equalizing blood circulation. Capsicum also heals ulcers. Yup. You're reading that right. Capsicum helps heal ulcers. A favorite story of mine is the one from Dr. about the husband who had endured the pain of a stomach ulcer for as long as he could stand it. This husband decided he could take no more and wanted to end his life. When he went to the medicine cabinet to get pills to do the dastardly deed, he discovered his wife had replaced all the drugs with herbs. He saw the bottle of Cayenne Pepper capsules and figured that would surely kill him, so he took a handful. Being a considerate fellow, he didn't want his screams to disturb the neighbors, so he took an extra pillow with him to bed to muffle his screams. Was he ever surprised when his wife shook him awake the next morning and told him he was late for work! Hmmm'.... .Some of you husbands might be wondering whether he actually did die and gone to hell, but I assure you he was quite alive. What he didn't know is that capsicum stimulates the protective mucus-forming membranes of the stomach. It was the first time in years he had slept through the night. It's a stimulant herb and a digestive aid, helping improve digestion and soothing inflammation. It helps remove toxins from the body, relieves gastrointestinal problems including bleeding ulcers, colic, dyspepsia, flatulence and even diarrhea. It helps relieve the pain of shingles, cluster headaches, and itching palms and feet of diabetes. " You can do a Google search on " cayenne ulcer " and find lots of information about this healing herb in relation to ulcers. Jay
