Edie,

I'm glad you've had a pretty positive experience with the health

professionals so far, since getting your insurance. I had a similar

situation with a tech who told me " you do have gallstones, but be sure to

act surprised when the doctor tells you. " I just saw a surgeon this week to

hear about his opinion of choley, and when I asked him what the ultrasound

showed, e.g. how many stones did I have, what size, ETC., he wouldn't tell

me!!! He told me that the amount and type of stones a patient has bears " no

relation " to her symptoms, and therefore I didn't need to know! This and

the fact that he was 30 minutes late (as the first appointment of the day)

without apology, got us off on the WRONG foot. Then, when I showed some

knowledge of the disease & treatments, he asked me " are you a nurse? "

Gggrrrrr!! I really wished I could have said " no, you can address me as

doctor____ " That would have put him in his place. I'm pretty open-minded

about medical staff; I work in a hospital and come across practitioners who

span the spectrum of wonderful, incredible advocates to pain-in-the-butt,

thinks-they-are-God types. This experience was pretty frustrating.

I'm sorry I can't offer you any suggestions about whether surgery is your

best bet given what the ultrasound showed. I can tell you that since

changing my diet, taking supplements, and drinking TONS of apple juice, I

have been symptom-free. (And I STILL haven't done my first flush!)

Good luck with a tough decision (and with the other procedure) .
