I get all of my research lab data from the NIH lab site... and that was quoted from their site. Same with the second email regarding the IGA studies.. I added more info for members on the second email including the normal values for other immunoglobulins... all sited from the NIH site. Just to clarify... that was not meant for your small son. The site was referring AGAIN to adults who have ELEVATED studies which MAY be caused from NUMEROUS factors ONE being alcohol. I think I am going to DEFER ALL lab questions back to your physicians. Seems to be to confusing as a medical professional.... trying to explain these issues through an email. Soooo in the future... to all our members... ask your doctor about the lab studies. I do NOT want to confuse or misinform or hurt anyone's feelings when I need clarification. God Bless... Guest guest
I think it depends on your doctors discretion. For me, I had tests every other week for the first 6 weeks then once a month there after. I will have them once a month till the end of treatment then every 6 months to follow up. Guest guest
Hmm, I understand. I only saw my doctor once since I started this 11 months ago. We stay in contact by phone and email. If I have any questions or concerns or want to know the results of my blood test, I just email her and she gets right back to me. Does your doctor have an email address that you can contact him at? Or is he not open to communication at all? Guest guest
Blood tests are usually monthly, and then more in depth every three months, I think that's pretty much the standard. When I was on an HMO and getting horrible treatment, I called the company and listed my complaints and told them that I HAD to do something about this since I was too sick not to. I got results in that they called the docs involved and wrote them letters telling them to correct their hebavior. I was on Community Health, a NOT very good company IMO. Perhaps you can do that. Sometimes veiled threats of misconduct and below par treatment can help......? It seems a darn shame that you're socked in to inferior treatment. I petitioned another insurance provider to accept me through the company I worked for and after several letters back and forth, I got it. Guest guest
The drug company (called the 24 hour Pegasy's nurse on-call for something else) told me that most doctor's do 2 week draw for the first month and then monthly after that as long as everything looks good. Mine had me on weekly draws for the first five weeks (glad to be off of that!) and now I'm doing two week draws for four weeks and hopefully I'll be on monthly soon! They have me draw my blood five days after my injection and then they call me and check in before the next injection to tell me to keep going. > Not the gallon I should, but steady drinking all day. Guest guest
PLEASE EVERYONE (scream, yes!): Please make sure your blood test request from your Doc to the Lab specifies right on that main paper that one copy of the results are to be sent to you, the patient, with your full name and address. I will not leave my Doc's office until I have that request in writing. Then, you can keep your weekly, monthly, etc blood tests and scans in your own file at home. Guest guest
Perhaps mine is an unusual one but my experience with the VA has been a very positive one. Perhaps it is my doctor that makes the difference. The first time I was seen for HepC at the VA, it was a different doctor who told me I never needed to be treated so I went on my way knowing nothing was wrong till I started following my own blood tests and saw my liver levels slowly rising. Luckily there was this new doctor there that I now see who immediately wanted to treat me. I started right away. I feel very lucky because I am completely covered 100% so pay nothing. Guest guest
Ed - this is of interest as I decided to try to lower triglycerides a bit. How much policosanol were you on? Any side effects? Guest guest
Very pleased with the PSA results. It has never gone higher than ..8. This is actually the lowest it has been ever. My last blood test was about 3 years ago so I am not surprised the cholesterol and the trigly. were much higher than the last time. The last time I was tested while taking Policosanol my count was at 190. I take 10 mg of Policosanol a day (but have not taken any for a few months)... going back on it starting tomorrow. I will be increasing my cinnamon to four capsules a day. I have been taking only 2. I also will be taking more Biotin and Chromium Picolinate too to see if that will help fight the Triglycerides too. > I just received the numbers from my blood work that was done this past > Wednesday morning. > > Just as I figured... my cholesterol is up ... it is at 255. > > My triglycerides are also up but I forgot the numbers. > > But this is because I have not been taking Policosanol for about > 2 months ... my bad! Guest guest
Hepatitis C is treated with a drug called peginterferon, usually in combination with the drug ribavirin. You may need surgery if you have hepatitis C for many years. Over time, hepatitis C can cause your liver to stop working. it can lead to liver cancer, liver failure or cirrhosis — irreversible and potentially fatal scarring of the liver. If that happens, you will need a new liver. The surgery is called a liver transplant. It involves taking out the old, damaged liver and putting in a new, healthy one from a donor. Medication is currently available for treatment of chronic hepatitis C. The most effective medication is the combination of peginterferon and ribavirin. Treatment with this medication is successful in eradicating HCV in about half of infected patients. This is called a sustained virologic response (SVR). Current studies suggest that HCV will probably never return in patients with a sustained virologic response unless they are once again exposed to this virus. No vaccine currently exists to prevent infection in an individual that is exposed to HCV. Patients who achieve a SVR following treatment with peginterferon and ribavirin have an improvement in the degree of liver injury with loss of fibrosis and a return of the liver towards normal. This is called histologic improvement. Histologic improvement has also been reported to occur in some patients who did not achieve a sustained virologic response following treatment with peginterferon and ribavirin. > From: fiar@... <fiar@...> > Subject: Blood work > > Date: Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 11:47 AM > Twigs and Bark!
