Guest guest
I saw my GI last Tues (he's a motility specialist and has been the one who's treating my gp). I was diagnosed with GP 4 yrs ago and my GES back then seemed to confirm the diagnosis. I had a GES last month which came back normal. So after we went over all my symptoms, how I felt day to day, what helps, what hurts, and he felt around my abdomen " does this hurt, does that hurt, " etc, he now believes either I have a very mild case of gp, or I don't have it at all. He thinks I have abdominal migraines and that it's been my problem for years, just that no one ever looked for it. Abdominal migraines, from what I understand, are like the cyclic vomiting syndrome but include severe abdominal pain as well. I already get migraines, so he said, based on all my symptoms, it's not a far stretch to assume my gp-like probs are actually abdominal migraines. And there are no support groups that I could find, for abdominal migraines - only ones for cyclic vomiting syndrome, which isn't quite the same thing - plus the ones for cvs all seem to be geared towards kids or parents of kids who have it! And, do you want to hear something ironic? My 7 month old Boston Terrier, who vomits/regurgitates intermittently, $3000 later in medical bills, appears to have gp, and is on Reglan & Pepcid - and she's doing alot better with the Reglan than I ever did as far as side effects go! I think it's cheaper for her to be on Reglan than it was for me - she only takes 1/4 pill twice a day - and it's only $0.99/pill. So, back to me, I don't know whether I'm happy or upset that I don't have gp - because I have no one to talk to about this, and I feel like everything I learned doesn't apply anymore. The dr said in adults there's no studies that show it ever goes away or gets better - and it looks like I developed this in my teens (I'm 34 now), and it's only gotten worse since then. My husband went to the ER fri nite after work - luckily his abdominal pain was another kidney stone - that he passed while waiting to get his catscan! I'm still having pancreas probs, I can't seem to get my potassium up no matter what I do, my 23 day cylce is keeping to schedule perfectly - where I have my period for 12 days and then am off 11 - so now I'm anemic again, and the stress of everything has flared up my IBS so bad that by taking Bentyl & NuLev, it's not controlling the diarrhea AT ALL! And, of course, my sphincter of oddi dysfunction (sod) pain is there without fail, too! And if one more dr asks me " So, are you still going to try to get pregnant again soon? " I'm gonna flip! I don't even know if it would help or hurt me! UGH!!!! Love and Hugs, Cathie in PA
Guest guest
Cathie, I say UGH too. IMHO, it sounds like you've been eating too much ALPHABET SOUP! You keep jumping from GP, to ER, IBS, GI, GES and ETC. I'm getting a migraine trying to keep them all straight. The medical system has you self-perpetuating your own anxiety which in turn is likely to stir up your innards. My GA (General Advice) to Y-O-U is to change systems ASAP so you can GW (Get Well). As an example of other systems, Hahnaman, the founder of homeopathy said " there are no diseases, just sick people " . Another way to say it is that there are no diseases, just symptoms. To diagnose or treat, one uses symptom pictures exclusively and labels no one into a box. A hundred people with " diabetes " could have 100 different symptom pictures. They bottom line is that no one single remedy cures everyone the same. Another way to look at what ails you is to use Traditional Chinese Medicine. With this ancient form of medicine one studies the symptoms as well as the physical markers such as tongue, pulses, facial and meridian patterns. From this a diagnosis is made based on issues like hot-cold, wet-dry, yin-yang and so on. Your condition, and all conditions, are based on common elemental forces which they call water, wood, fire, earth and metal. Each force reflects upon the organ systems. It's quite elegant and fundamental. Treatment success is based on the following (in increasing order of importance) 1) thoughts, 2) food, 3) herbs and 4) acupuncture. Sounds like your revolving door " specialists " have your head spinning and yet you are basically getting nowhere fast and perhaps even worse given all the chemotherapy you are chugging. Both homeopathy and TCM have played key parts in my RTR (Road To Recovery). BW (Best Wishes), Will PS I've been a vet in practice for over 25 years and it's shockingly common for household pets to pick up the family disease patterns. Guest guest
Will, I had to comment on your statement that ' PS I've been a vet in practice for over 25 years and it's shockingly common > for household pets to pick up the family disease patterns.' I have noticed time after time that families who suffer with allergies, etc. have pets who also seem to have similar symptoms. My husband thinks it is impossible. Guest guest
Will - I'm beginning to get a handle on my life (in some ways, at some times!) - I'm really learning how to appreciate every day as it comes, and the people I come in contact with. I'm not quite sure what transpired to make my view on life change - earlier this year, I totally lost my faith in God and religion - not because of my illnesses, but because of my never ending quest to learn more about the past (not my past!) and how religions came to be. I feel much more in tune with nature, and that has truly made me open my eyes to so many different things. My dr has suggested upping the dosage of one med to help alleviate pain - it's an anti-depressant, so since the dose will still be low, I've decided to go with it - and maybe it will help me mentally too until I can calm my system down. I've changed my diet - not strict anymore tho- I want to appreciate the junk food & the health food equally - and in moderation. I'm happier that way. I'm getting more quality sleep now - and I'm actually dreaming for the first time in ages! I had bought my dream car this past Jan - and now I'm learning to enjoy being stuck in traffic everyday because I'm in the car - MY CAR - that I wanted sooooo bad! I'm working out at the gym again - but now I'm going 5 times a week - and I do whatever exercises or machines I want and I set the weights at whatever I feel like that day, sometimes easy to lift, sometimes not! - and not worrying about following a routine. I've actually built up some muscles in my legs & arms that I forgot I had. I'm shopping so much more at Whole Foods - trying out their make-up selections as well as their alternative remedies and groceries. My pets are on the most pure forms of pet food around, and have all natural chews and toys - and don't seem to mind - they're just as happy. I still have the pain - and my " regular " type migraines are becoming more frequent - so I just make another cup of herbal tea and turn on the boob tube to draw me into something else so I can get my mind off it, so to speak! I have to say I'm worse now, physically, than I have ever been before - but I'm almost working a 40 hr week every week, and I'm actually happier than I've been in a long time. So I guess I have begun to change systems - now I just need to follow thru till my body catches up with my mind. Cathie PS - My puppy being sick plays a big part in my attitude now - she vomits and then goes about whatever she was doing before she got sick, as if it never happened...because, to her, as far as getting sick goes - she doesn't " know any better " that she should be upset about it. And that's what I'm doing too with my being sick. ------------- From: " Will Winter " <holistic@...> Cathie, I say UGH too. IMHO, it sounds like you've been eating too much ALPHABET SOUP!
