Guest guest
Hi all, I am back to having troubles with the gallbladder. I was posting like crazy back when I was pregnant with my daughter. I am now pregnant again and having a very hard time with my gallbladder. I cant eat but a very few foods. Its getting bad. So I need advice about what to do again since I am pregnant and cant do a flush. Last time I took 1 grapefruit juice with 1-2 tbls of olive oil first thing every morning. This time I am very very nausea and cant seem to do that. I am taking beta tcp to see if maybe that wont help. I am also going to start seeing an accupuncturist for it. I have heard they can help with it. I need diet help. What can we eat? I am pretty limited here. Its just not good not to be able to eat a wide variety of foods while pregnant. If anyone can help I would be greatful!!! If you could also share your menu's for breakfast lunch and dinner that would be great!!! I hear that if you get your gallbladder removed you still cant eat things with any fat in them because you still hurt. Is this true? I dont know what the point would be if this is true. I would rather not have it out but may have to go that route if I cant get relief. Guest guest
Cherie, I loved this site! I will bookmark that one! I found this extremely interesting, below, about onions. Besides the coffee enema queen, I think I am also the garlic/onion queen! So this information was really important to me. I've heard that you are supposed to let garlic sit after you chop it, but I've never taken the time to really do that. This makes all the difference in the world to me, having this info. Now I will make sure I do! Here's the Q and A: What is the best way to cook onions so as to maximize the benefit of their sulfur-containing phytonutrients? Onions are a wonderful reservoir of many important nutrients. Not only are they a concentrated source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, chromium and the flavonoid quercetin, but they also contain important phytonutrients known as allyl sulfides. These sulfur- containing phytonutrients are the phytonutrients that give the onions so many of their health promoting qualities. Among these phytonutrients are those known as alliin and ajeone as well as the allyl propyl disulfides including allicin, diallyl disulfide and diallyl trisulfide. The striking difference in flavor and aroma that exists between cooked and raw onions is largely due to the effect of cooking on the allyl sulfide phytonutrients, since not only do they contribute to the onions's nutritional qualities but they also give them their pungent flavor and aroma. Thanks to scientific research, we have learned tips on how we can best cook onions so as to maximize their sulfur-containing phytonutrients profile. Preparation for Cooking The latest scientific research tells us that slicing, chopping or mincing Onions before cooking will enhance their health-promoting properties. A sulfur-based compound called S-alk(en)yl-L-cysteine sulfoxide and an enzyme called sulfoxide lyase (also known as alliinase) are separated in the Onion's cell structure when it is whole. Cutting Onion ruptures the cells and releases these elements, allowing them to come in contact with each other to form a powerful new compound called thiopropanal sulfoxide. This new compound not only increases Onion's health-promoting properties but is also the culprit behind their pungent aroma and the cause of the eye irritation that results from cutting Onions. The finer the Onion is cut, the more extensive is the transformation of the sulfur compounds. The stronger the smell and the more they affect your eyes, the more health-promoting nutrients they contain. So the next time you cut your Onions, you will have a greater appreciation of its " irritating " effects, knowing that the pungent smell that makes you cry will also make you healthy! So, to get the most health benefits from Onions, let them sit for a minimum of 5 minutes, and optimally for 10 minutes, after cutting, before eating or cooking. This is to ensure the maximum synthesis of the sulfur compounds. Heat will inactivate the effect of thiopropanal sulfoxide, which is why it is important to allow the Onions to sit for 5-10 minutes before cooking to give the enzyme ample opportunity to enhance the concentration of active phytonutrients in your Onions. Cooking at low or medium heat for short periods of time (up to 15 minutes)such as with methods like healthy sauté should not destroy the active phytonutrients since once they are formed, they are fairly stable. Research on garlic, a close relative of Onion, reinforces the validity of this practice. When crushed garlic was heated, its ability to inhibit cancer development in animals was blocked; yet, when the researchers allowed the chopped garlic to `stand' for 10 minutes before heating, anticancer activity was preserved. Practical tips To maximize the amount and breadth of sulfur-containing phytonutrients in onions, chop or slice them 10 minutes before cooking them. The best cooking technique would be one like the healthy sauté method that exposes the onions to heat for a minimal amount of time (less than 15 minutes) as opposed to longer cooking methods such as slow roasting. Guest guest
I think the food website is great! . . . I'm sending the links to my kids! I didn't spend a lot of time there - but I didn't see anything about the importance of probiotics. The Maker's Diet book is excellent for explaining the why's . . . It's not just a diet book! Guest guest
I didn't take alot of time to peruse through all of the scads of information, but I did see one thing that I didn't like, and that was the discussion of 2% milk as one of the healthiest foods. I am totally against dairy if it is homogenized, pasteurized milk and their products. My opinion is that there is only one form of dairy that is 100% healthy, and that is raw milk products. The www.realmilk.com website outlines all of the reasons why. I wish it was more available. My rule of thumb is that if raw milk and raw milk butter, cheese, etc, cannot be obtained, then avoid dairy completely. I'll spend more time looking over the site. I love the ideas they present for a healthy menu. That helps when you are just kinda lost when planning a menu to include all of the necessary vegetables, proteins, minerals, etc. Thanks again Cherie! Guest guest
This reminds me of when my 2nd son was born...all the ladies in my room, including the nurses were bugging me to drink my milk so I can produce lots for the baby (I am lactose intolerant, by the way). So I said, "I eat lots of salad...that's what cow's do to produce milk!" The nurse though I was kinda nutsy. Oh, well...it's true though! Ha! Ha! From: Lynda <coss@...>Reply- To: Subject: Re: Re: Diet HelpDate: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 23:26:30 -0700Tis funny, I can eat cottage cheese and cheese if I take lactaid. I cannot drink milk or eat ice cream. Milk that has curdled or become sour is what makes the difference. But none of it can be raw. I throw it up. (Yuck). So, it is not necessarily dairy, it is raw milk. And, what is so funny, I grew up on a dairy farm and drank raw milk my entire childhood, until I was 15. Then, at 20, it made me deathly ill when I tried it again.I think many people are actually lactose intolerant, but it is also the cassein (sp?) in the milk that breaks down when it sours that makes it so I can have cheese or cottage cheese or yogurt if I take lactaid. I do buy organic products, including butter. So, I am unsure why, but between 15 and 20, the dramatic change came. And my oldest son could never tolerate raw milk. He could drink pasteurized, however, when he was older than 2. I think he was probably lactose intolerant also.I think many of us are lactose intolerant, and we just do not know it. I have seen studies that said that probably 80-90% of adults are lactose intolerant, and many do not know it.LyndaAt 11:14 PM 3/11/2006, you wrote:>That's too bad. Guest guest
You were just saying the truth! Funny when you think about it, huh? My grandmother, who was German, told me to drink beer with my first baby. She said the beer makes good milk. Of course, back in the old days, beer was brewed using whole fermented grains....a very healthy drink to drink (and the main beverage in many cultures, along with wine, for centuries). I wish I had known the difference between real brewed beer of old and the highly processed beer of modern days, because I tried it with a bottle of Heineken and the only thing it did for me was make me drunk and make my baby sleep really well! I actually hate the taste of beer, but if I was going to drink it today, the only way I would is if I made it the old fashioned way myself! Guest guest
Migraines. You have to remember though, my house has been under reconstruction for 6 months so the paint and chemicals here are likely what I have been reacting to. My body doesn't feel the same as it used to. My muscles ache more and I take longer than usual to recover after workouts at the gym. My chiro adjustments are different too. I also require less of some supplements that previous so that's a good thing. Dr. Leu believes my reactions are toxin related. I'm going to the home and garden show today to see infrared saunas -- at his suggestion. How can my husband not buy me one if the kind doc suggested it very strongly. Kathy, you may or may not react to the products I'm taking but I would not use my reaction as a guideline. I take really good care of myself but this house has me all screwed up. Fortunately we're leaving or a cruise for 7 days on Saturday. I'm anxious to see if my symptoms change after being out of here and in the truly fresh air. Unfortunately we have to come back home. Guest guest
Hi Cherie, I've been out of town for the weekend and am a bit behind but I will read your website. One thing that I have learned in school is that all vegetables, including onions and garlic are far more nutritious raw. Enzymes are killed when cooked. The ideal ratio is 60% raw foods in the diet. Guest guest
What is the name of the man who recommends using only full fat, I believe unpasteurized, milk products? Guest guest
Kenda Sorry to hear that your house has you screwed up! I know I would be. I am very sensitive to paints and all kinds of chemical smells. I really hope you enjoy your vacation! I haven't been feeling well either. I had to put my dog to sleep two weeks ago and have sunk in a big depression. Then my hormones got in on the act and everything went to heck. I have been having nonstop tendon pain from constant muscle twitches in my legs and arms. My tendons are taut and hurt constantly. I think that is due to alot of things I was doing to detox--like everyday epsom salt baths and far infrared sauna, lots of garlic and onions, etc. Everytime I try to detox it goes well for awhile and then reaches a point where everything careens out of control. I really wish I could figure out why my body reacts this way over and over to just about anything and everything. I used to be able to stop what I was doing and in three or four days I would be better again. Now it seems it takes weeks and months to come out of the herxes I get into. One thing I have noticed is that when my hormones are screwed up I herx and react much worse than when they are more on an even keel. And being on an even keel has become impossible lately. I really just want to hit menopause and be done with all these hormone shifts. It makes it hard to feel good either physically or emotionally. I, too am going on a vacation. I am leaving for dallas tuesday to spend five days with my son. Then off to hawaii for five days. I really hope that I can feel up to these trips. I would hate to disappoint my son and my husband! I will be praying that your trip will be just what you need to feel better again, and you have a great time as well! Love, Kathy > >>>>>> > >>>>>> I fight to keep my weight up as well. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I'm sorry you're having a rough time and am so sorry about the death of your dog. I'm an animal lover and know too well how rough it is to lose a beloved pet. Do you know a good acupuncturist? My acupuncturist did a grief treatment for me after I lost my favorite kitty years ago and it worked wonders. Do you stay on any liver supplements regularly? I take a liver supplement and started on a very low dose. I gradually increased it until I could take the full dose and not herx. Whenever I herx or am liver challenged, I get my fibro symptoms back, although never consistently or as bad as I used to have. I have them now for the first time in many years but I know it is the toxic mess that is in our home. I try not to be concerned about it and know that it will clear up in time. Anyway, the cleanse supplements I am now taking are in addition to the regular liver supplements I normally take. If you don't already take a supplement daily, you might consider it. I intend to take liver supplements for life, it's a necessity for me. My muscles and tendons feel strangely now too. I'm sure it is the toxins being stirred up. I also haven't been drinking near enough water, I can tell because I am so thirsty all the time. Our home and garden show was this weekend so my husband and I looked at the infrared saunas. There is a company here that makes them that we really liked. Their saunas are made of birch or poplar, can't remember which, and are not treated with chemicals and don't outgas like cedar. Cedar would kill me! My husband even liked it and Dr. Leu recommends it so we're going to order one soon. I'm anxious to try it after reading all of the testimonials given on the company webpage. You know I'm always suggesting Dr. Leu for this type of thing. If you feel you can't get ahead with what you're doing, I highly recommend him to get you pointed in the right direction to where you can handle detoxing on your own. There could be simple reason you are struggling with what you have tried. I hope your trip is great! Hawaii will be incredible!! Take care, Kenda > > Kenda > Sorry to hear that your house has you screwed up! I know I would > be. I am very sensitive to paints and all kinds of chemical > smells. Guest guest
Well, maybe, but none of my brothers and sisters, nor my mother and dad seemed to have this problem. And, studies show that the majority of adults are lactose intolerant and just do not know it until they quit using dairy for at least three months. Then when they start again, the problem is readily apparent. So, I just do not know. I can eat yogurt with absolutely no problem. So, what is that??? I just know that raw milk is the absolute worst for me, and it makes me hurl. I get indigestion from ice cream, but no vomiting. Terrible indigestion. But not so much from frozen yogurt, cheese, or cottage cheese. And I never drink milk anymore, so cannot tell you about that. I have been told that souring or fermenting milk breaks down some of the proteins, so that may have something to do with why those products do not give me as much problem. I also know that you have far more danger of H. Pylori if you use raw dairy products. There is a direct correlation with having that and using raw dairy. So, that is something one should research. I go for organic, no hormones or antibiotics in it. I am far more worried about those than about pasteurization. And diary is not a big thing on my list, but yogurt seems to be good for me. That is something I do eat almost daily. Otherwise, I get my calcium elsewhere. Lynda At 11:20 PM 3/12/2006, you wrote: >Lynda, > >There are some people who are lactose intolerant . . >. Guest guest
Lynda . . . It's interesting how raw milk suddenly made you ill. I wonder if there was something in the milk you drank at that time that created antibodies that you passed onto your son - and still hang around to protect you from more of the same. Guest guest
A friend told me that she can't drink milk in the States. Yet when she was traveling in Europe, she did fine. . . Guest guest
That would more than likely be Dr. Westin A. Price, who wrote a fascinating and influential book called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. I highly recommend this book. It is the Westin Price Foundation that I always refer to when I send the link for www.realmilk.com. They are the ones that have continued the work that he started, and seek to educate the world on correct nutrition. They base it on the research that revealed the devastating effects of modern processed foods....back in the 1930's! It's even worse now. One of the best " cookbooks " I have in my collection is called " Nourishing Traditions " , which teaches how to make foods the old fashioned way to preserve nutrients and health. I highly recommend this book to those who want to give up modern processed foods! Guest guest
Here is the link to the Westin Price Foundation: http://www.westonaprice.org/index.html I support this foundation with annual contributions, and they put out a very informative booklet 4 times a year with the latest information in nutrition, scientifically backed, of course. They also put out a shopping guide to help make correct choices at the grocery store, along with resources for purchases online and locally for nutrient dense foods. Guest guest
No, because he was a year old at the time. And I did not drink milk when pregnant. I just think it was the raw milk. Many, many people cannot have milk products, I am just one of them that is very sensitive, especially to raw milk. Lynda At 11:57 PM 3/12/2006, you wrote: >Lynda . . . Guest guest
Bingo!! That's him. I first learned about him through my holistic dentist. He recommends against skim and low fat milks because they are not natural and are processed. Kenda > That would more than likely be Dr. Westin A.
