Guest guest
>>>Are certain ethnic groups more susceptible to certain diseases, I think so, strongly. <<< Hi , In the last year or two, I read an article about a scientific study that was conducted (sorry, can't for the life of me remember where, though I think it was in Newsweek) that illustrated that certain segments of populations are more prone to certain diseases that grow to epidemic proportions due to a generalized disempowerment that is felt within these groups. For instance, post WW2, there was a widespread outbreak of polio amongst impoverished and war-weary Europeans. Today, we see populations of married women in certain parts of South America, in particular, who are more likely to get AIDs passed on to them by their 'culturally accepted' philandering counterparts...and, of course, gay segments of most populations are also more predisposed, tending to remain on the fringes of society. So, could it be that disease is more rampant among the disempowered? Seems likely, according to this study and not far off the predictions for rampant disease spreading amongst the tsunami survivors. Which also raises the question why the profile for the five Fs was originated (perhaps middle-aged women were at one time pretty disempowered?), because it seems to me that we have a fair cross-section of people here on this group and not just the " female, fat, fertile, fair, forty " ones. I know we're talked about this at site before, but perhaps those with GB issues are more prone today due to other things....how about a society that is fed highly refined, processed stuff for starters? Does this make us disempowered? Probably....because we have been eating this stuff for convenience, rather than empowering ourselves to spend the time eating right in the first place. Also, the mind-body connection is becoming more widely acknowledged and many GB issues (and all other bodily imbalances) have been attributed to imbalances in the solar plexus region, largely due to repressed feelings like anger and stress...that's pretty disempowering, too. Anyway, I just thought it interesting and very insightive that you brought this up, because there is definitely more to dis-ease than meets the eye ....meaning 'dis-ease' with our bodies, for whatever reason, and wherever we may live, whatever the genetic predisposition. Maybe this is the underlying reason why we see certain groups of people in epidemic situations and we might all benefit from taking the mind-body connection very seriously?
