Guest guest
Hello Everyone!! I'm new to this group and looking for some experienced input. I have a 13yr old son who has been having uncontrolled seizures since last summer. He was 7 wks premature and had a Grade 4 Intraventricular Hemmorhage w/in one week of birth. He has multiple probles, including Cerebral Palsy, Cortical vision impairment, Mental Retardation (basically 6-9mos mentally) and of course the Epilepsy. He started having seizures at 6mos of age - they were controlled w/ meds until he was 5yrs old. He was seizure free from 5-9yrs and off meds. At 9 he started having seizures again and they had been controlled by meds until this past summer. I know it's related to puberty. We are trying to find a solution for his uncontrolled seizures. We have tried a combination of many medications and are currently taking 4!! We just had an appt w/ his neurologist and a neurosurgeon at AI Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. They are suggesting a VNS or corpus Callostomy. They both feel he would not have great results from the VNS and are leaning toward the Corpus Callostomy. Does anyone out there have experience with this type of situarion? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
