My Dad Troy has Tick Borne Encephalitis. He contracted it several

years ago and after an initial full recovery and remission period,

about 4 months ago he had what was diagnosed as a " second phase " .

Now, he is experiencing recurring seizures left arm. Current meds:

Depakote & Oxcarbazpine.

He's had the MRI and EEG and has some " light areas " , " Shadows " on his

brain which were a result of brain swelling and the virus.

He's really depressed now, it kills me to see him like this. His

Doctor, I believe is doing the best he can, but I don't know if we

are on the right course.

I'd greatly appreciate your group thought and any recommendations. He

is being seen at:

Department of Neurology LifeBridge Health Brain & Spine Institute

5051 Greenspring Avenue

Baltimore, MD 21209

Thank you.

Regards,

,

Our son, , contacted viral excephalitis when he was eleven.

His subsequent grandmal seizures could not be controlled with

medications. He underwent two brain surgeries at the University

of Wash. Epilepsy Center. They couldn't resect all the affected

area which was in a vital area (tongue movement) so he continued

to have seizures. After many different medications, natural

supplements, diet changes, neurofeedback and the vagal nerve stimulator,

he finally has his seizures under control. Never give up researching,

joining supportive groups like this for ideas that have worked for others

and trying different things.

I want to stress that the neurofeedback helped get his brainwaves

normalized which helped his seizures and depression. Also, the vagal nerve

stimulator was a help to getting his seizures under control and helps also with

depression issues. It took awhile to get it set at the right strength and

frequency,

but now it seems to be doing its job. No negative side effects from the vagal

nerve

stimulator or neurofeedback. Hoping now we might be able to cut back

on his medications (lamictal, lyrica and keppra) which really make him tired.

You're dad is not in this boat alone. We're here to help.
