dear cindy,

my child of 13 increased his seizures even with the anti-seizure drugs that he

has been taking; the more seizures, the higher dosage the doctor required. I

sought for a second opinion and scanned the web for appropriate diet and was

referred to nutritionist who mentioned ketogenic diet. Ketogenic is high in fats

and there is a downside. i did not try that since my child is already fat. I

happened to drop by a medical doctor who is in integrative and preventive

medicine . My child was heavily intoxicated already with pheno barb, tegretol

and another one recently which i stopped. We tried the vegetarian diet without

meat and processed sugar since sugar including aspartame and MSG in processed

foods are triggers on my son. He never had any seizure after a month except very

slight absence epilepsy. We discovered that my son was secretly eating candies

which he asks from school mates. After we advised him on the dangers of the

triggers, he complied. He was

cofirmed to have epilepsy last May this year and had seizures in june, july and

september. Since we reverted to the vegetables and fruit nutrition as advised by

our doctor WITH tocotrienol, oxyboost and phosphatidylcholine all scientifically

prepared pharma herbal preparations from ACCESS integrative medicine in US

imported into our country (Philippines), my son is doing well now in school.

Oxyboost is high in oxygen. I was alarmed to know that many chemically prepared

drugs from pharma companies especially anti-seizure drugs do not help develop

the brain, they just control seizure. My son for 7 years since infancy have been

dosed with phenobarbital and tegretol --- which are damaging also to the nervous

system. With oxyboost and scientifically researched herbal and vegetable

compounds (oxyboost from soya and wheat; tocotrienol from wheat, and

phosphatidycholine --- good for brain and liver--- my son is doing good.Check

these capsules at the web

(tocotrienol, phophatidylcholine, oxyboost from ACCESS integrative medicine. I

bookmarked the sites for our reference during our search. In the web, there is

also the hyperbaric oxygen treatment. None of that is available here in our

country but they msut have a lot in US. Oxyboost helped a lot (it is a casule

taken twice a day). Nutritive elements from fruits and vegetables has been good

for our son's healt. Because of his situation, we had to reverse also our eating

habits and level off with our child. We are doing fine.

You may consult a physician in your area who practices integative or preventive

or nutritional medicine or consult those who turned to vegetarianism for the

benefits that they got in deciding, to give you more idea to help you decide

what is best for your child. Ketogenic diet is beneficial to some extent but it

does not cure epilepsy; it helps delay seizures. The downside is the ill-effects

of having too much fat in the body that is why the management of a medical team

for this is necessary.

Subject: [ ] Low Glycemic vs Modified Atkins vs Ketogenic

Is there anyone out there who has a young child on any of these diets

Low Glycemic, Modified ATkins or Ketogenic? If so how are they doing?

How long have they been on it? any information you can share would be

greatly appreciated. WHat types of foods are they eating? Our son

has failed 2 meds one doctor wants us to try another while we wait to

get on the ketogenic, the other doctor said not to start a new med and

just start either the modified atkins or Keto diet. We want to start

with the Low Glycemic and work our way up if necessary, just in case

the less severe diet works rather than wondering after he is on the

Keto diet if something less severe could have helped. Thanks again!

My son was on the keto diet for 6 years. We had great results from the start.

After 6 years we were no longer sure. He is not on the low glycemic diet. We

have also changed his meds and he now has a VNS so it is hard to say if the diet

change had much impact. I'll send you a copy of the diet manual my son's

hospital gave us when he went on the low glycemic diet so you can get a feeling

what it is like.

Dave

Hello Rogel, and all,

I have been lurking about every now and again on this site and I have to thank

you all for

all the work and information you share. It's been a great blessing.

My daughter now 19 was diagnosed with intractable absence epilepsy when she was

12, it

took 1 1/2 years to get a correct diagnosis, because they did not become full

blown until

she was 12. She failed Depakote, Lamictal, Topomax did not work 100%, then

Celontin

was added, and still not 100% seizure control. While on Lamictal she morphed

into having

grand mals and other types, but has not had one since we weaned her off. I

asked for

dietary therapy for 6 1/2 years, and was always told, " NO. " Finally, we were

able to get

into a study with Dr. Kossoff and immediately had 95% seizure control and are

still at that

point. We are doing keto right now, due to the ability to have stablized

ketosis. We

continue to try to tweak. She just finished 25 days seizure free, which is a

milestone. We

have been doing the diet for 15 months. Her last eeg was normal, which it had

never

been, but she is still having these small bursts of absence seizures

occasionally.

I am particularly interested in the supplements, Tocotrienol,

Phophatidylcholine,

Oxyboost, Rogel spoke of from a company called ACCESS integrative medicine in

the US. I

tried to google and could not come up with them. I think we will probably be

able to go

low glycemic at some point in the future, but really want to weed out these last

few

seizures. The diet has improved my daughter's brain function so much, and she

is above

average in many areas. She lost 3 1/2 years to non-stop seizures.

My other question is about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, I think that's right,

HBOT. I have

access to one, but do not know enough about it to decide. I do not want to goof

things

up, that's for sure.

Again, you are such a great group, and I thank you all for all the research you

have done,

and the information you share.

Sincerely,

Dorene

Dear Rogel and all,

I have been reading your ideas and thoughts since about January of this year.

We have a long

epilepsy story, as many do, but I won't get into that now. My daughter, who is

now 19 has

been struggling with mostly absence seizures for 9 1/2 years. Drugs never

worked, we are

on keto now, and she is about 97% seizure free. We just can't seem to get rid

of those last

few pesky ones, that will keep her from driving, etc.

Anyway, my questions are about the supplements, tocotrienol, oxyboost and

phosphatidylcholine, that you got from ACCESS integrative medicine in the US. I

tried to

google them and did not get anywhere. Can you help me find these?

And also, what is your experience with hyberbaric (sp?) oxygen therapy, as

related to

seizures. I have access to one, but just don't know the rules or where to

start.

I thank you so much for all you have done to help educate me. Hopefully I can

pass this all

on one day.

Sincerely,

Dorene
