Guest guest
Yes I do! I get disibility for both my son and daughter. I did have to wait a while befor the checks started but I got back pay from them. What I needed to send them was papers from my daughter's heart doctor, her regular doctor and her dermathologist and eye doctor and when they found all she had wrong they oked it. Now for my son who is older then her. I not only had to send in doctors papers but he also had to be seen by one of their doctors. But you can get it. It sure does help with all the doctor visits and medicines. Not to mention the hospital. I hope that helped. This is an ongoing problem for the rest of their lives. hugs; paulette lorileedare@... wrote: Have any of you applied for or recieve SSI payments for your children? I'm looking into this for my son. Guest guest
Hi Lorilee, I received SSI for a short time before I started working out of high school. I don't remember what Mom and Dad went through to get it, but it really helped. It is something definately worth persueing. (poly 35) Disablity, SSI? Guest guest
Hi, . I was just curious - did receiving that in any way impair you as you got older and entered the work force? Did it have a negative effect in any way with a prospective employer thinking you were disabled? I know by law they cannot discriminate, but sometimes these things happen anyway. Guest guest
I'll throw my 2 cents in. I received SSI through the state of land when I graduated HS, for about 8 years. Mine went through the department of Vocational Rehabilitation services (which in my eye is even more beneficial). They were able to assist me in paying for college, and even make payment installment plans for a wheelchair accessible, modified van. It was Voc Rehabs opinion that it would be cheaper and more beneficial to the individual (me) to pay me a little now, get me through college, and back into the workforce, paying taxes and paying them back,,, than to let me go on SSI permanently. It has in no way hampered my employment opportunities. It's been a HUGE success. Fischer DPA Architects, Inc. pfischer@... Disablity, SSI? Guest guest
That is so great to know. I have never really looked into it for Chris. I like to hear that a govt agency actually seems to be thinking in a good direction - get you rehabbed and back in the work force. I am so glad to hear that it in no way hampered you. Guest guest
If I may add my two cents too. I have the medical and medicare with my disability check and I got a scooter to get around to the market with and it was free and they will even give me a ramp if I needed it. That is through ssa. I hope this helps. I couldn't go through the regional center as they will only take a certin mentality at ours but my two children are going through the regional center out here but they don't really help with anything in the way of money for any of us. hugs; paulette Fischer <pfischer@...> wrote: I'll throw my 2 cents in. Guest guest
Rob is getting 'hooked up' with voc rehab, and we are hopeful he will have financial help to go to college. We'll know more about it this fall! I would encourage everyone to look into voc rehab. and Rob 16 Spondy On Mon, 30 Jan 2006 09:28:51 -0700 " Fischer " <pfischer@...> writes: I'll throw my 2 cents in. Guest guest
i signed up for my daughter ciarra, on the urging from her rheumy. i received it within 3 months of applying. it was easy. i had to fight for 3 years for my son, who has severe epilepsy, cp, spina bifida, adhd, they say because pain can be measured and all those other things are more unseen, it is easier for arthritic people to get it. i had no problem. i missed a lot of work, so they see this as supplemental. that is what it is supplemental money for monies lost due to childs disability. that is how it was explained to me. i hope i helped, i know all the other people have answered, but i felt i should give you my easy experience with it all. shelly mom to ciarra(systemic) lorileedare@... wrote: Have any of you applied for or recieve SSI payments for your children? Guest guest
Thank you so much for your answer hun. I'm not going into this thinking its going to be easy or it will be the hardest fight next to this disease. How old is your dd? How long has she had Systemic? has had it since Feb. 05. It just seems to be getting worse... What kinda of meds is she on? Guest guest
Sorry guys. I was in Boston and new York all last week meeting with clients and giving presentations. We had to drive because we were demonstrating scanning technology and the equipment was too fragile to be trusted in an airplane. 17 hours each way. ;(. Having the SSI did not affect me in any way in later life. I was ineligible as soon as I took a Job at Atlas Van Lines and they were glad to have me off of it. (poly 35) Disablity, SSI?
