Guest guest
Beth, I kept expecting to read that also takes a pm dose of the pred which would definately explain things. I don't recall my son having sleep problems on the pred when he was only taking an am dose. I hope it is just a temp thing and s old sleep pattern returns. Guest guest
Madison is a night owl. Most nights she is up until at least 10:30 but it's nothing her up to be up until midnight!!! I like my sleep but luckily my husband doesn't require much so he stays up with her. I don't know if it's the meds or not but I suspect it is. Madison is on Naprosyn and Methotrexate. She came off of Prednisolone in January. Madison too has always been a great sleeper! Who is your doctor? Ashlee (Madison, 3 1/2, Poly and Iritis) New to group-Question about steriod/sleep disruption Hi, everyone! I'd like to introduce myself; My name is Beth Sekelik and my daughter, , age 5 years, was recently diagnosed with arthritis. We found a phenomenal pediatric rheumatologist, and are so grateful to have found him. is currently taking Naprosyn, Prednisolone, and just began Methotrexate. She has always been a terrific sleeper at night(thank you God!), but since beginning the first two meds, her sleep has gone haywire. She is up during the night just about every night at least once, but sometimes, such as last night, 5 times. She is pleasant, not crying, not fussing, just awake. Gradually, she gets herself back to sleep only to awaken again. She makes it through school, only to be exhausted when she gets home and then dozes off and on for a few minutes here and there during a 1-2 hour period before it's bath time, dinner time, and then bed. Have any of you experienced this, and what in the world did you do if anything, to help it? Do the sleep disruptions become a permanent part of her life, or is it a matter of getting adjusted to the med? What is the average time it takes to adjust to the steroid? She has now been on it for 3 weeks. She is currently on 1/2 tsp of the Pred. per day, and we give it to her in the a.m. after breakfast. Any guidance or info would be greatly appreciated! Beth, Mom to , age 5 yrs.
Guest guest
Hi, Like Becki, I expected to see that was taking an evening dose - which guaranteed a sleepless night at our house! When Robbie first flares they always start him out with an am & pm dose to combat the am stiffness and pain - but when we begin to taper, the evening dose is what we taper first - to improve the sleep issue. With that said, with a high dose only in the morning - Robbie always experiences problems sleeping- which improves as his body adjusts to the meds - or if the dose is quite high, when we begin to taper. Insomnia is a common complaint with steriods - even with only one am dose. Hopefully will adjust and have less problems soon with sleep. Even now with Robbie's sleep improved - he still has sleep issues he never had pre-diagnosis. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Beth, Long story short----when my 7 year old son was first diagnosed and put on pred (up to 40 mg split between am and pm), the pharmacist said that we should give the pm dose closer to dinner time and not bedtime because of possible sleeping problems. The rheumy got mad that the pharmacist would over-ride his orders and told us to keep the pred. 12 hours apart for am and pm doses. anyway, I don't remember any major sleep problems either way, but it makes sense that it is possible. Guest guest
for the steroid / sleep topic. I was on large doses of pred in 2003 and I didn't sleep for days, literally. At this point I was also given sleeping pills. As the pred dose decreased my sleeping abilities returned and I withdrew the sleeping meds.....
