Guest guest
Don't be put off by the length of this, but felt better sharing it with a group of people who are interested/obssessed with their GB's! Sometimes decisions are made for you!!!! Like many of you, I could not believe that I had gallstones!!!I was a healthy, 56 yrs old, vegan/vegetarian (occ eat fish!)reading all the nutrition bks, superb diet, exercise regular etc etc. But, after an 'awful' GB attack, 3 months ago, which my uk Dr thought could be ulcers or gallstones, I started on the research and our obvious diagnoses was gallstones. As I had to go to Ankara (Turkey acc.huband for work) I could not wait for scan, so left it thinking that if I had another 'attack' while there, I'd get a scan. Then I had cystitis and as the medical facilities here are so brilliant I had a scan to check kidneys ok; and yes, there were a few small stones (4mm) in my gallbladder. The Dr here advised having them out, but after doing so much research I was adamant I would be ok and get them gone with 'flushes'.and that I would contact my Dr back in Uk when returning beg Dec. to get 2nd opinion etc.I definitely was NOT going to give up my gallbladder!! So I did what I thought was a successful 'flush'. All very exciting, lots of bright green pea size and bigger + smaller, presumably gallstones + chaff came out. Then I waited a month, felt fine, no probs; to do next 'flush' the week before returning for Xmas hols. (Then, I could have another scan at home to see there were all gone!) So I started last Sun 28th Nov. drinking all that copious apple juice and chamomile teas!!!(To do that for 6 days to soften stones) But by Mon p.m. I was feeling a bit 'Off'' and by Tues.a.m. those 'awful' GB attack pains were well set in. Lasted all day, but decided to go ahead early (not complete all the juice days.I think the 'attack' was actually bought on by the apple juice.) and do the 'flush' that p.m. as there didn't seem anything to loose. That went ok. Weds a.m. produced some green sludge which I interpreted to have been maybe the ammount of a dissolved stone + v. little bright green 'bits'. So thought that meant my stones were definitely now all gone. I felt ok, usual 'not quite 100% ' after an attack etc. carried on life as usual. Thurs felt a bit nauseous and vomited, nothing too drastic!Noticed my urine was getting rather dark. But on Friday I felt wierd, then began the vomittng in the awful manner I had on my first attack before I knew I had any stones.(Bubbly, frothy, mucous, then green bile lots of it, pains in stomache, gross!) By 2 p.m had to call to get my husband to take me to Drs. Took blood test, waited 2 hrs. and yes all my levels of 'whatever' were dangerously high! Surgeon came to examine as there was a poss of emergency surgery as a stone/s could be lodged in infected bile duct or worse still infected pancreas duct (which controls insulin) and the bag which holds the organs (can't remember name, begins with p) was infected too + I was also jaundiced!!!GREAT!!!! I confessed to the 'flushes' but they didn't seem 'phased', Turkey has a lot of Traditional medicines and herbs used alongside conventional. Next step hospital (more like 6*hotel!), had 12 hrs for my immune system to fight off the infections, before opening me up, a 50/50 chance emergency op needed, drip sol to flush body out.I must say I can't believe how calm I felt. But then I never did believe I had could possibly have anything much wrong with me. Major disappointment was when I had the scan to check organs, there were gallstones!!! A few (in medical terms means more than 3) and larger than saw in first scan!!! However, as my immune system is so good and speed of treatment, I luckily did not have stones lodged, by 12 hrs later my blood levels were showing improvement. To not bore you anymore with the saga, after 2 nights + days I was allowed home. I had terrible pains and backache for 2 days which seem to pass downwards, and finally as I write now they have practically gone. But the outcome is if I cont. to be ok I'm having the GALLBLADDER and its contents (I've asked if I can see it to check if the stones resemble anything I flushed out!)REMOVED on Monday p.m. The risk factor of having another life-threatening attack like this is too great for me to live with. So now we go home 2 weeks later, if all goes well. Wish me luck, I'm sorry to see 'IT' go, but I did my best to keep it.................................................. S (Yellowish!!!)
