Guest guest
>>>What is a biliary colic attack?<<< Hi , I think you may be referring to my last email? My knowledge of the mechanics of biliary colic is limited, but from what I've gleaned here in the group, this past year, it is the result of a sluggish, inflamed GB, where bile gets backed up due to sludge and/or stones, causing the GB to go into painful spasm. As for a description of the symptoms I experienced, prior to flushing, a biliary colic attack would come on slowly with a dull, bloated feeling in my midsection, sometimes causing a spasming, gerd-like feeling the full length of my esophagus up to my neck. Sometimes, it would dissipate after this stage, but usually this was just a precursor to a severe crushing, burning pain sensation under my right ribs that would come in distinct waves (lasting a few minutes with each wave) and extend right through to my mid-back section. These unpredictable, debilitating attacks would last anywhere between a few minutes to many hours and, before they were completely resolved with flushing, there was a constant nagging knifelike pain in my mid-back, regardless of there being an obvious attack, or not. I also understand that the sensation is often confused with heart attack (which did cross my mind when I had my first attack), because the energy meridian from the liver/GB area runs through to the mid back, behind the heart. Hope this explains what I meant....though I am sure there are some wonderful sites out there that will better explain the mechanics of a biliary colic attack. I'm also pretty sure each individual's symptoms will slightly vary according to unique root cause and physiology, though there was a distinct wave-like pattern to my attacks.
